JIM MALCOLM TRIO
For 25 years and more, Scottish folk artist Jim Malcolm has toured the USA, performing ancient traditional and original Scots songs at both the largest festivals and the most intimate listening rooms around the 50 States. With a voice described as “one of the best in Scotland in any style” and mellifluous guitar-playing in DADGAD tuning, he is an old-school entertainer who keeps his audiences laughing as he offers up tales of Scotland’s history in music, song and story. He brings a blast of Scottish culture to loyal audiences who may never have the chance to visit the heathery old place. For 2027 please welcome the Jim Malcolm Trio, featuring Jim with his chip-off-the-old-block daughter Beth Malcolm (Scots Singer of the Year in 2022 and 2024) on keyboard and vocals and the wonderfully talented young musician Callum Convoy (of the Canny Band) on bodhran. Their concert this year will be one of two halves. Beth Malcolm will lead the first set with Folkmosis, a memoir in folksong which explores her musical life from the womb to the chalkface as she began her career in teaching. It’s a spellbinding story told in spoken word and folksong, winding ancient songs into new, with a sidestep into the music of her teenage rejection years. The second set of the concert will be vintage Jim Malcolm, enlivened by the addition of Beth’s harmonies and Callum’s unfaltering rhythms on the Celtic drum. This will be a concert tour to remember.
