“Michelle Shocked is a true trailblazer who knows how to play with fire” – Rolling Stone

Acclaimed singer/songwriter generating compelling lyrics and mneumonic melodies for over 40 years, Shocked was thrust into an inadvertent recording career in the ’80’s by a bootleg tape published in England. In the ensuing bidding war following the phenomena of The Texas Campfire tapes, and standing her ground, she retained ownership of both recording masters and song copyrights, in a remarkable negotiation with Universal. A trilogy of Grammy-nominated albums, the Mercury Trilogy, was released over the next five years, launched by her signature song, “Anchorage.”

Roadworks 2026 presents two girl geniuses in one evening; this is a co-bill. This evening will feature Michelle Shocked performing the songs from Bootleg This! Truth vs Reality v2.0, a 6 episode audio narrative produced by SueMedia Productions, scheduled for release in Feb 2026. Episode 1 of the prequel, Bootleg This! Truth vs Reality v1.0 dropped on Jan 27, available to listen for free, courtesy of a recent, successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign Following Michelle’s 60 min concert performance is a 30 min solo drama of Krapp’s Last Tape by the divine Cintra Wilson!
