Two fabulous fingerstyle players with an array of styles on the same bill. One a multi stylist with celtic, classical, and jazz influences and the other a fabulous fingerstyle/slide guitarist who melds the two seamlessly into fantastic arrangements.
San Francisco Bay Area guitarist Teja Gerken has enchanted audiences ever since coming onto the acoustic fingerstyle scene in the late 1990s. Initially influenced by guitarists such as John Renbourn, Michael Hedges, and Leo Kottke, Teja ultimately began weaving together his diverse musical interest into a style that is his own, releasing his debut album On My Way in 1999. In the two decades since, Teja has fine-tuned his sets to include original compositions, Celtic traditionals, classical pieces, jazz standards, and some favorite tunes by his fingerstyle guitar peers, several of which are included on 2005’s Postcards. Teja’s latest release is 2024’s Test of Time, the opening track of which, “Vicki’s Red Boots,” was a finalist for the 2024 USA Songwriting Award. Teja also recorded also a duo recording with fellow Bay Area guitarist Doug Young, with whom he released 2020’s Duets, and 2025’s The Water is Wide.
“Test of Time” is a sonic marvel from top to bottom

Gerken’s technical facility is obvious, his performances impeccable, and his tones gorgeous

Plus on the same bill Mark Leggett, an artist who spends most of his time doing film scoring, making a rare appearance performing his original tunes and arrangements. Mark will be playing his fingestyle/slide arrangements of original and classic tunes. Twice Emmy nominated for his composing work, Mark has written music for Levon Helm and The Band, Dolly Parton’s films, the tv show My Name is Earl, and many others. We had seen Mark perform at the Wiltern Theatre opening the show performing 3 songs solo for a screening of Easy Rider done with a fabulous live band performing the original songs and incidental music accompanying the dialogue instead of the pre-recorded original songs and music. Mark’s arrangements of the three songs lead to the inevitable, this guy needs to be heard and discovered by more people. A fantastic tasteful player. Don’t miss him.
