SUMMARY:DOUG MACLEOD
DESCRIPTION:MacLeod is known for his superb songwriting\, guitar wizardry\, warm soulful vocals\, wit\, and unforgettable live performances. At the heart of a Doug MacLeod performance is his knack for storytelling\, bringing characters-from the faceless to the legendary-to strikingly real life.\nDoug is a multiple Blues Music Award winner\, including the 2024 Blues Music Award for Acoustic Album Of The Year Raw Blues 1 and the 2023 the Blues Music Award for Acoustic Artist Of The Year. In 2025 he received two Blues Music Award nominations for Acoustic Artist Of the Year and Acoustic Album Of the Year Raw Blues 2. In 2022 A SOUL TO CLAIM produced by Jim Gaines was released. It was named a Downbeat Magazine ‘Album Of The Year’ for 2022.\nDoug is an international touring artist who writes and sings original songs that are based on his own life and experiences. He learned from the old masters and carries forward a valuable tradition. As a youth\, Doug overcame abuse and a crippling stutter by turning to music. After picking up a guitar\, and singing he found his voice. MacLeod’s playing landed him sideman gigs with George ‘Harmonica’ Smith\, Big Joe Turner\, Pee Wee Crayton\, Eddie ‘Cleanhead’ Vinson\, Lowell Fulson\,and Big Mama Thornton. Over 40 years\, 29 studio albums\, several live records\, compilations\, two blues guitar instructional DVDs\, and a live performance DVD\, MacLeod has consistently earned raves. His songs have been covered by many artists including Albert King\, Albert Collins\, Joe Louis Walker and Eva Cassidy. MacLeod’s songs have been featured in many TV movies and the hit show In the Heat of the Night. August Wilson requested his soulful slide guitar playing in the Los Angeles opening of “Gem of the Ocean”.\nFrom 1999 to 2004 Doug hosted Nothin’ But The Blues\, a very popular weekend blues show on Los Angeles’ KLON-KKJZ. He has also been the voice for The Blues Showcase on Continental Airlines. For ten years he penned “Doug’s Back Porch\,” a regular feature column in Blues Revue Magazine in which he shared his humorous and insightful stories with thousands of readers. He is one of the four featured artists in the movie “Resonate: A Guitar Story”\, the feature documentary on the making of National Guitars.\nLike the old masters who taught him\, MacLeod’s music expresses life and times through an intangible\, elusive quality that may simply be a keen sense of what matters most. Doug’s music\, stories\, and philosophy provide a healing that has helped others overcome the hardships of their lives.\nDoug says the most important lessons he learned as a young musician came from Ernest Banks a one-eyed country bluesman from Toano\, VA. “Never play a note you don’t believe” and “Never write or sing about what you don’t know about.” \n“Like all great blues men\, MacLeod lives his music\, and the songs are not just on the tips of his fingers and tongue\, they are one with his being.”- Blues Music Magazine\n“One of the great blues artists… Period!”- Jorma Kaukonen. \nhttps://www.doug-macleod.com \nRead more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:BEPPE GAMBETTA—Sorry Beppe is Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:Beppe Gambetta is a guitarist\, vocalist\, researcher and composer born in Genova\, Italy in 1955 who developed a style of concert presentation that brings American and European Roots to speak together with one voice. In his unique approach\, Gambetta blends energetic grooves with passionate melodies\,giving new life to sources from different times\, periods and places. In addition\, the original music he composes gives contemporary influences to traditional roots music. \nGoing back to the 1990s Gambetta started to tour on a regular basis with American guitar legend Dan Crary (in Europe and then in the US and Australia). Dan Crary was able to introduce him to the organizers of the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield\, KS\, a major guitar event and home to important guitar contests. Gambetta’s performances at Winfield opened the door to him becoming a regular part of the American Festival scene. In 1993 he met and collaborated with Gene Parsons\, a former member of the legendary folk-rock band\, The Byrds. Parsons performed on Gambetta’s first solo American CD “Good News From Home” (1995) on the then preminent folk and Celtic label “Green Linnet”. In this album\, Gambetta started to blend his love for American Roots with elements of European tradition moving away from being known strictly as a hot bluegrass picker to create his own multi-national style. From 2002 to today\, Beppe Gambetta has focused his work mainly on his solo carreer\, touring constantly and naturally and seamlessly joining the shores of the two continents\, Europe and America\, creating in spite of the interposed ocean a musical fusion where American roots music and Ligurian tradition\, emigration songs and folk ballads\, steel string guitars and vintage harp guitars not only co-exist but interact\, weaving a deep dialogue unaware of any rigid classification. For his 14th CD (Where The Wind Blows\, Borealis Records\, Canada 2020) Beppe Gambetta revealed himself to be not simply a master guitarist but also a new songwriter of great feeling\, wisdom and maturity. “Where The Wind Blows” is a collection of songs and tunes all written\, arranged and performed by Beppe with the extraordinary collaboration of American bass player Rusty Holloway and percussionist Joe Bonadio.  The 2024 new release Terra Madre (Mother Earth) is a musical key to open a world of tales and dreams related to the motherlands of infinite possible itineraries\, and to the cries of pain and hope that rise from them. The record weaves together the experience and wisdoms of a fifty-year career\, and the work is further enriched by the participation of internationally-renowned guests from different musical genres. “Fathers” of acoustic music such as American mandolin icon David Grisman\, acoustic guitar pioneer Dan Crary\, and celebrated bluegrass and Americana singer-songwriter Tim O’Brien lend their talents to the project. Different dimensions are added by the presence of New York avant-garde drummer/percussionist Joe Bonadio\, the versatile acoustic jazz harmonica player Howard Levy\, and from the world of “Newgrass” Jam Bands\, the hugely popular bassist\, Travis Book.\n \nhttps://beppegambetta.com/ \n

SUMMARY:ALBERTO LOMBARDI
DESCRIPTION:Defined “Italian Fingerstyle Master” by Acoustic guitar Magazine\, Alberto Lombardi is an eclectic guitar virtuoso. He effortlessly goes from an acoustic tour with Tommy Emmanuel- or recently teaching at his international guitar camps – to producing his rock record with Bruce Springsteen and Rolling Stone’s legendary sound engineer Bob Clearmountain (“Home” 2020) In this Solo Show Lombardi mixes these two souls in a fascinating and unusual way. He plays on the acoustic his arrangements of great classics from the Italian and international tradition (from Volare to the Beatles\, Sting\, Stevie Wonder..) to rock and roll greats like Supertramp and Jeff Beck\, and then he grabs the electric to color with melodic and lush guitar solos. \nHis guitar style is very personal\, derived from the diverse musical experiences Alberto has in rock\, pop and jazz as a session player and record producer. Incorporating acoustic fingerpicking\, flatpicking\, some looping and electronics\, electric soloing and singing\, Alberto can transform a single guitar into an orchestra. His own instrumental compositions and full blown rock songs complete the picture of a unique live experience. \nHe also played major festivals like All Star guitar Night(USA) \, International Guitar Night. (23 shows touring Germany\, 2018)\, Chet Atkins festival (USA) and all Italian Guitar Festivals like Sarzana\, Soave etc. \nAs a teacher Alberto has been invited to teach at Tommy Emmanuel’s guitar camp Roma in 2025 and many other workshops and masterclasses\, hosted his own guitar camp in Tuscany\, released four instructional videos forStefan Grossman’s guitar videos label\, teaching some of his most popular arrangements and some creative guitar technique. \n“Alberto… I listen to your CD\, thank you! It sounds beautiful and your playing and arrangements are very powerful. I wish you much success !! Big admiration to you”— Tommy Emmanuel \n“the record is killing\, such great musicianship! SUMMARY:BERNIE PEARL—CELEBRATING HIS NEW BOOK "SITTIN' ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BLUES"
DESCRIPTION:The fabulous legend of Southern California blues\, Bernie Pearl (with special guests) who has just released his new book Sittin” on the Right Side of the Blues filled with classic historical blues photos and notes dedicated to the legacy of the people Bernie learned from. \nThe blues is life itself to Bernie Pearl. A guitarist with an upbeat\, finger-poppin’ picking style he learned at the elbows of bluesmasters Sam ‘Lightnin’ Hopkins\, Mance Lipscomb\, Mississippi Fred MacDowell\, and others. Yet\, Bernie Pearl is no hidebound traditionalist. As music critics and aficionados have said for years\, he is a craftsman who packs his songs with melodic interpretations that are new and personal each time he picks up his vintage Martin or National. To hear him tell it\, “I’m not a retro player. I’m playing real blues for right now.” Special guests this evening include Ray Bailey on vocals and guitar\, Job Striles a master of West Coast style Blues ala T-Bone Walker\, and fine pianist Steve F’dor.\n \nBernie\, who grew up in the Los Angeles community of Boyle Heights\, took up the guitar in the 1950’s. Later\, at his brother’s legendary blues showcase\, the Ash Grove\, he met\, studied with\, and often performed with greats like Hopkins\, Lipscomb\, and MacDowell as well as with Freddie King\, Albert Collins\, and Big Mama Thornton. Bernie played duets with John Lee Hooker at Gerde’s Folk City in Greenwich Village. “They were my teachers\,” he says\, “and it wasn’t just music they were teaching. If you took Mance or Lightnin’ out fishing you got philosophy\, history\, and lessons in life”. \nArmed with the teachings of those and other blues icons\, Bernie raises the roof with dazzling guitar solos – acoustic and electric – and with his own Bernie Pearl Blues Band\, which has backed the likes of B.B. King\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Willie Dixon\, and Big Joe Turner. The Bernie Pearl Blues Band has been a popular draw at many of Southern California’s best-known musical haunts: the House of Blues\, California Plaza Presents\, the Blue Café\, Disney’s California Adventure\, and the Playboy Pasadena Community Jazz Festival. Bernie has appeared at major Festivals in Chicago\, The Poconos\, Vancouver\, Portland\, and Long Beach\, as well as in Europe. \nA life-long blues evangelist\, Bernie began broadcasting Nothin’ But the Blues on KPPC FM in 1968\, making him L.A.’s first all-blues FM disc jockey. He went on to host the blues on KLON and KCRW from 1980-92\, helping found the Long Beach Blues Festival along the way. \nHis 15-year relationship with Louisiana blues man Harmonica Fats produced three outstanding CDs\, with the unplugged Two Heads Are Better and Blow\, Fat Daddy\, Blow\, each garnering W.C. Handy nominations in the mid-1990’s. Tonight Pearl shares the stage with bassist/vocalist  Elizabeth Hangan who is a perfect match to set the groove on the tunes they perform. \nBernie applied his studio skills as a producer and songwriter-arranger of jazz-rocking violin pioneer Papa John Creach’s critically-acclaimed 1992 Papa Blues CD (Bee Bump BBCD 03). \nAs president of Big Time Blues Productions\, Pearl was named national “Blues Promoter of the Year” by the Blues Foundation in 1987\, and he continues to book\, promote\, advertise\, and oversee blues acts at annual events such as the Big Time Blues Festival and the Blues Harmonica Blowdown. He has taught blues history and blues guitar courses at several area universities\, and continues to teach at Cal State Long Beach\, as well as privately. \nHis first solo CD\, released in August 2002\, was recorded in an all-acoustic concert at Culver City’s Boulevard Music and is appropriately titled Bernie Pearl Live From Boulevard Music (Major Label ML 011-CD). \nFor music lovers tired of market-tested commercial radio and industry-buffed overnight phenoms\, Pearl provides virtuosity\, country wisdom\, a warm voice\, and the kind of fingerpicking and slide guitar work that still gets juke-joints jumping. \n“…Pearl’s music and voice evoke the unpretentious\, truth-telling qualities of the blues. The sparse arrangements that grace this 15-song set only heighten the soulful and spiritual nature of the music. Pearl’s guitar virtuosity is evident\, whether he’s playing lead\, rhythm\, or slide guitar…his version of (Son House’s) Shetland Pony Blues would make the old master proud” \nStephen A. King\, Living Blues Magazine \n“Making blues music draws from someplace deep\,” he says. “I’m lucky. It’s what I do.” \nRead more

DESCRIPTION:Three fine singer/songwriters featuring the duo of Rick Shea and Tony Gilkyson who will share the evening with Eleni Mandell. \nBorn in Hollywood and reared in northern New Mexico\, Tony Gilkyson’s songs speak of ghosts\, travels\, dreams\, and landscapes. A songwriter-guitarist\, Tony began recording at a young age with his father\, Terry Gilkyson. He has collaborated with songwriters John Doe and Chuck Weiss\, as well as authors Diane Stillman (*29 Palms*) and Michael Blake (*Dances with Wolves*). His musical style blends rock\, folk\, and Americana\, with a distinctive guitar sound that combines traditional and modern influences. \nThroughout his career\, Tony has worked with artists such as Dave Alvin\, Lone Justice\, Jimmie Dale Gilmore\, Bob Dylan\, Kris Kristofferson\, K.D. Lang\, and X. His guitar work has been featured in film soundtracks like Walk the Line\, The Big Lebowski\, *All the King’s Men*\, and *Don’t Come Knockin’*\, with producer T Bone Burnett \n“Gilkyson has always been known as a fine guitarist but he’s equally fine as a songwriter with an eye for the ironic and darkly humorous” – Los Angeles Times. \nSinger\, songwriter\, and guitarist Rick Shea’s work speaks for itself. Shea’s played with legends like Dave Alvin (on his Grammy-winning album Public Domain)\, R.E.M. (for the soundtrack to Man on the Moon) and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Wanda Jackson among others. Growing up in San Bernardino and cutting his teeth in Southern California honky-tonks\, his songs reflect the folk\, country\, rock and Mexican influences he grew up with. \nShea’s released 12 albums to wide acclaim (his latest received 4 Stars from Mojo)\, and he’s toured both the US and Europe. At work on a new album for possible release this year (or more likely next) Shea will be traveling as the featured artist with the Roots on the Rails trips this summer from LA to NOLA and Chicago back to LA. \n“Shea is a haunting vocalist\, imperative guitarist and literate\, detail-rich songwriter\, do yourself a favor” – Sing Out! Magazine \nEleni Mandell is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter known for her smoky\nvocals\, sharp lyrical storytelling\, and genre-blending style that spans jazz\, folk\, pop\, and indie rock. A longtime favorite of discerning music fans\, she’s been compared to artists like Tom Waits\, PJ Harvey\, and Lucinda Williams — but her voice and sensibility are uniquely her own as she focuses on small stories and intricacies of everyday life\, romance\, heartbreak and family in the vast landscape of Los Angeles. \nWith over a dozen albums to her name\, including Miracle of Five and I Can See the Future\, Mandell’s songs explore love\, motherhood\, loneliness\, and longing with elegance and wit. She’s also a founding member of the acclaimed harmony quartet\, The Living Sisters\, alongside Inara George\, Alex Lilly\, and Becky Stark. \nWhether solo or in collaboration\, Mandell’s music evokes a cinematic world full of charm\, ache\, and quiet power — the kind of songs that feel like secrets set to melody. \nhttps://www.rickshea.com/ \nhttps://tonygilkyson.com \nhttps://elenimandell.com \nRead more

SUMMARY:TEJA GERKEN & MARK LEGGETT
DESCRIPTION:Two fabulous fingerstyle players with an array of styles on the same bill. One a multi stylist with celtic\, classical\, and jazz influences and the other a fabulous fingerstyle/slide guitarist who melds the two seamlessly into fantastic arrangements. \nSan Francisco Bay Area guitarist Teja Gerken has enchanted audiences ever since coming onto the acoustic fingerstyle scene in the late 1990s. Initially influenced by guitarists such as John Renbourn\, Michael Hedges\, and Leo Kottke\, Teja ultimately began weaving together his diverse musical interest into a style that is his own\, releasing his debut album On My Way in 1999. In the two decades since\, Teja has fine-tuned his sets to include original compositions\, Celtic traditionals\, classical pieces\, jazz standards\, and some favorite tunes by his fingerstyle guitar peers\, several of which are included on 2005’s Postcards. Teja’s latest release is 2024’s Test of Time\, the opening track of which\, “Vicki’s Red Boots\,” was a finalist for the 2024 USA Songwriting Award. Teja also recorded also a duo recording with fellow Bay Area guitarist Doug Young\, with whom he released 2020’s Duets\, and 2025’s The Water is Wide.\n“Test of Time” is a sonic marvel from top to bottom\n– Blair Jackson\, Acoustic Guitar \nGerken’s technical facility is obvious\, his performances impeccable\, and his tones gorgeous\n– Barry Cleveland\, guitarplayer.com. \nPlus on the same bill Mark Leggett\, an artist who spends most of his time doing film scoring\, making a rare appearance performing his original tunes and arrangements. Mark will be playing his fingestyle/slide arrangements of original and classic tunes. Twice Emmy nominated for his composing work\, Mark has written music for Levon Helm and The Band\, Dolly Parton’s films\, the tv show My Name is Earl\, and many others. We had seen Mark perform at the Wiltern Theatre opening the show performing 3 songs solo for a screening of Easy Rider done with a fabulous live band performing the original songs and incidental music accompanying the dialogue instead of the pre-recorded original songs and music. Mark’s arrangements of the three songs lead to the inevitable\, this guy needs to be heard and discovered by more people. A fantastic tasteful player. SUMMARY:TERESA JAMES & BRUCE FORMAN
DESCRIPTION:Tonight we feature two artists at the top of their game in a rare performance together.\nOne virtuoso vocalist and one virutoso guitarist making more music together than one person might imagine. Teresa James on vocals and Bruce Forman on guitar. \nTeresa James\nHer persuasive pipes slathered in honey and soaked in Texas-bred sass\, keyboardist Teresa James and her band\, the Rhythm Tramps (12 albums done to date)\, have long reigned as one of Los Angeles’ leading contemporary blues outfits. Their 2019 CD Here in Babylon was nominated for a Grammy in the Contemporary Blues Album category. Known to many people for her work in the world of Blues her repertoire goes way beyond the standard 12 bar blues progressions. Everything from Texas-style grease and blues into Memphis soul or New Orleans-flavored grooves and all points in between with fun and abandonment\nHer diversifed career has included recordings with Walter Trout\, Eric Burdon\, Spencer Davis\, Tommy Castro\, Stephen Bruton\, Randy Newman\, LeeRoy Parnell\, Neil Diamond\, and more; plus live performances with countless others\, including Marcia Ball\, Levon Helm\, Lloyd Jones\, Delbert McClinton\, and Eric Burdon & the Animals. She has been a featured act on Delbert McClinton’s Sandy Beaches Cruises for more than twenty years. Bruce also pointed out that Teresa is also Bonnie Raitt’s favorite singer which is not a bad credit to add to anyone’s resume. \nBruce Forman \nA hectic touring schedule; eighteen recordings as a leader\, including his newest release\, Junkyard Duo; countless sideman recordings including Ray Brown\, Bobby Hutcherson\, Roger Kellaway; soundtrack performances on three of Clint Eastwood’s distinguished films—most notably Academy Award-winning Million Dollar Baby; producer\, arranger\, acclaimed educator\, in residence at USC’s Studio/Jazz Guitar Dept.\, when does Bruce Forman rest? \nDeep immersion in American culture inspires Forman to contribute to the traditions that he drew from. Formanism (his trio project); original works like The Red Guitar; his popular podcast with Scott Henderson\, GuitarWank; Cow Bop and the “road challenges” down historic byways like Route 66; JazzMasters Workshop; his newest project: Junkyard Duo…these are only the latest answers to the endless question that underlies Bruce Forman’s creativity. His music and life reflect every step of his journey\, and demonstrate the awareness of an artist who’s very much at home in the world\, and at the top of his form.\n“A rock solid jazz/bebop player with a harmonic knowledge in his playing which is brilliant. One of the few really great jazz players out there whose playing sounds classic.”—Gary Mandell \nhttps://teresajames.com/ \nhttps://www.bruceforman.com/ \nRead more

SUMMARY:THE TRANSATLANTIC TRIO—RICHARD SMITH\, JOSCHO STEPHAN\, & RORY HOFFMAN
DESCRIPTION:The Transatlantic Guitar Trio features Richard Smith from the U.K.\, Germany’s Joscho Stephan and American multi-instrumentalist Rory Hoffman. Together they combine jazz ballads\, gypsy swing standards\, Travis/Chet Atkins picking\, pop music plus some original compositions to create a repertoire of fresh arrangements in the styles of the great guitarists Django Reinhardt\, Chet Atkins\, Jerry Reed\, and Merle Travis. \nThe history of these incredible players includes these brief descriptions:\nRichard Smith is one of the greatest guitar players on the planet. Incredible fingerstyle player (2001 National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion) and\, also\, one of the hottest Bebop/Django/Flatpicking players in the world. Richard Smith performs everything from fingerpicking classics\, originals\, Joplin rags\, jazz standards\, classical and everything from pop to Sousa marches. The playing ranges from amazing to flashy and beautiful. Here are a couple of quotes regarding Richard from Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. “The most amazing guy I know on the guitar. He can play anything I know\, only better.” Chet Atkins\, CGP \nJoscho Stephan shapes modern gypsy swing with his playing like no other: With his authentic tone\, his harmonic finesse and his sense of rhythm\, but above all with his breathtaking solo technique\, Stephan has earned himself an outstanding reputation on the international guitar scene. Like no other\, he knows how to stand out from the multitude of current Gypsy Swing adaptations by combining Gypsy Swing with Latin\, Classical and Rock\, in addition to numerous interpretations of the well-known classics of the genre. His debut album ‘Swinging Strings’ was voted CD of the month in 1999 by Guitar Player magazine. In 2004\, Acoustic Guitar Magazine celebrated Joscho Stephan as the future of gypsy jazz guitar. For the CD “Guitar Heroes” in 2015\, Joscho Stephan invited guitar greats like Bireli Lagrène\, Stochelo Rosenberg and Tommy Emmanuel. \nRory Hoffman started teaching himself to play guitar and piano at age 3. By age 5 he was the drummer in the family band. He currently plays over a dozen stringed\, keyboard and wind instruments. Rory has played the Grand Ole Opry numerous times\, as a soloist and as a sideman with Ricky Skaggs\, Kathy Mattea and John Cowan. Working with these stars and others has enabled him to play several notable festivals\, including Telluride with John Cowan\, and Djangofest as part of the John Jorgenson quintet. “Just Jazz Guitar” and “Guitar Player” magazines have written feature articles about Hoffman’s unique guitar style. Rory is 2-time winner of Musician of the Year from Nashville’s ICMA\, and is a 2012 inductee into the South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame. Tour de Fourth is Rory’s latest album. Rather than focus on a certain style of music\, this album features music that demonstrates Rory’s skill and diverse interests in country\, western swing\, jazz\, polka\, latin\, gypsy jazz\, bluegrass and gospel music. It is a mix of original songs\, and fresh arrangements of standards. \nhttps://www.richardsmithmusic.com/ \nhttps://joscho-stephan.de/en \nhttps://www.roryhoffman.com/ \nRead more

SUMMARY:Guy Van Duser & Billy Novick Celebrating 50 Years Performing Together
DESCRIPTION:“Guy…has practically invented a finger-picked guitar style\, closer to jazz piano than guitar. Billy Novick\, on clarinet\, had he lived in the 30’s would be a legend….”Boston Globe \nAbout this Show: This is our 25th anniversary show (A little bit late but we finally pulled it off). Guy Van Duser was the first artist we called to play Boulevard Music in 1998. Why\, because his fingerstyle arrangements are inventive\, beautiful\, and like nobody else. This ultimately led to the album Guy Van Duser Live at Boulevard Music which is a classic recording with fabulous playing and amazing arrangements by Guy. This is the first time we are able to have his long time partner of 50 years\, Billy Novick\, make the journey from Boston with Guy to play at the Boulevard. Don’t miss these two masters of their instruments for the first time together on the West Coast.—Gary Mandell \nAbout the Artists: \n“Elegant.” “Riveting.” “Soulful.” “Classic mastery.” These are a few of the terms that have been used to describe the unique and stunning swing-jazz music of acoustic guitarist Guy Van Duser and clarinetist Billy Novick. \nTogether as a duo going strong into their 50th year together – longer than most marriages- Guy and Billy have performed in concerts\, clubs and festivals all over North America and Europe. \nAnd like a good marriage\, their music has wed together two perfectly suited musical personalities. You may have heard them as frequent guests of the Prairie Home Companion show (6 times!!)\, providing theme songs for the PBS shows This Old House and Antiques Roadshow (that’s them playing the theme and more)\, NPR’s All Things Considered\, or on one of the numerous film and television soundtracks they have been featured on. Their music is based around Guy’s innovative finger-style guitar wizardry\, playing bass\, chords and melodies all at the same time. His inspiring imagination and virtuosity are perfectly complemented by Novick’s soulful and lyrical clarinet playing. Deeply rooted in the rich legacy of the classic jazz age and buoyed by their entertaining and humorous stage manner\, the “two-man big band” can play a Gershwin song or an old blues and immediately have it sound fresh and unique. \nWith his daring imagination\, breathtaking technique\, and his wonderful musicality\, Guy has become an inspiration for guitarists all over the world. To some guitarists\, Guy Van Duser is known only as “that guy who arranged Stars and Stripes Forever for Chet Atkins.” Chet thought Guy’s version was so great he paid him to fly to Nashville to it teach to him\, which he did in Chet’s kitchen. Mr. modest Van Duser\, is also head of fingerstyle guitar at the Berklee College of Music in Boston\, and boy are they lucky to have him as a professor. \nNovick’s ever-inventive and soulful clarinet playing provides the ideal complement to Guy’s guitar. Their music sounds fresh and original\, yet is also deeply rooted in the rich legacy of the classic jazz age. The duo can play any piece from their huge repertoire- an obscure Ellington tune\, a Gershwin classic\, or perhaps one of the their originals- and immediately have it sound their own. \nThe two of them together can create a pulse as driving as any big band\, and they have a musical telepathy and understanding that has been honed by fifty years of playing together. Add to all of this their relaxed and engaging stage manner\, and you will be treated to a musically enchanting and entertaining show that\, indeed\, has already stood the test of time. \n“…a sound so full that it’s hard to believe only two people hold the stage.” \nCalgary Herald \n“They’ll stun you with the mastery of their playing…” \nBirmingham (Ala.)
