SUMMARY:BERNIE PEARL & MIKE BARRY—SORRY TO SAY CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say this show has been cancelled. \nThe blues is life itself to Bernie Pearl. A guitarist with an upbeat\, finger-poppin’ picking style he learned at the elbows of bluesmasters Sam ‘Lightnin’ Hopkins\, Mance Lipscomb\, Mississippi Fred MacDowell\, and others. Yet\, Bernie Pearl is no hidebound traditionalist. As music critics and aficionados have said for years\, he is a craftsman who packs his songs with melodic interpretations that are new and personal each time he picks up his vintage Martin or National. To hear him tell it\, “I’m not a retro player. I’m playing real blues for right now.” \nBernie\, who grew up in the Los Angeles community of Boyle Heights\, took up the guitar in the 1950’s. Later\, at his brother’s legendary blues showcase\, the Ash Grove\, he met\, studied with\, and often performed with greats like Hopkins\, Lipscomb\, and MacDowell as well as with Freddie King\, Albert Collins\, and Big Mama Thornton. Bernie played duets with John Lee Hooker at Gerde’s Folk City in Greenwich Village. “They were my teachers\,” he says\, “and it wasn’t just music they were teaching. If you took Mance or Lightnin’ out fishing you got philosophy\, history\, and lessons in life”. \nArmed with the teachings of those and other blues icons\, Bernie raises the roof with dazzling guitar solos – acoustic and electric – and with his own Bernie Pearl Blues Band\, which has backed the likes of B.B. King\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Willie Dixon\, and Big Joe Turner. The Bernie Pearl Blues Band has been a popular draw at many of Southern California’s best-known musical haunts: the House of Blues\, California Plaza Presents\, the Blue Café\, Disney’s California Adventure\, and the Playboy Pasadena Community Jazz Festival. Bernie has appeared at major Festivals in Chicago\, The Poconos\, Vancouver\, Portland\, and Long Beach\, as well as in Europe. \nA life-long blues evangelist\, Bernie began broadcasting Nothin’ But the Blues on KPPC FM in 1968\, making him L.A.’s first all-blues FM disc jockey. He went on to host the blues on KLON and KCRW from 1980-92\, helping found the Long Beach Blues Festival along the way. \nHis 15-year relationship with Louisiana blues man Harmonica Fats produced three outstanding CDs\, with the unplugged Two Heads Are Better and Blow\, Fat Daddy\, Blow\, each garnering W.C. Handy nominations in the mid-1990’s. Tonight Pearl shares the stage with bassist/producer Mike Barry who is a perfect match to set the groove for the tunes they perform. \nBernie applied his studio skills as a producer and songwriter-arranger of jazz-rocking violin pioneer Papa John Creach’s critically-acclaimed 1992 Papa Blues CD (Bee Bump BBCD 03). \nAs president of Big Time Blues Productions\, Pearl was named national “Blues Promoter of the Year” by the Blues Foundation in 1987\, and he continues to book\, promote\, advertise\, and oversee blues acts at annual events such as the Big Time Blues Festival and the Blues Harmonica Blowdown. He has taught blues history and blues guitar courses at several area universities\, and continues to teach at Cal State Long Beach\, as well as privately. \nHis first solo CD\, released in August 2002\, was recorded in an all-acoustic concert at Culver City’s Boulevard Music and is appropriately titled Bernie Pearl Live From Boulevard Music (Major Label ML 011-CD). \nFor music lovers tired of market-tested commercial radio and industry-buffed overnight phenoms\, Pearl provides virtuosity\, country wisdom\, a warm voice\, and the kind of fingerpicking and slide guitar work that still gets juke-joints jumping. \n“…Pearl’s music and voice evoke the unpretentious\, truth-telling qualities of the blues. The sparse arrangements that grace this 15-song set only heighten the soulful and spiritual nature of the music. Pearl’s guitar virtuosity is evident\, whether he’s playing lead\, rhythm\, or slide guitar…his version of (Son House’s) Shetland Pony Blues would make the old master proud” \nStephen A. King\, Living Blues Magazine \n“Making blues music draws from someplace deep\,” he says. “I’m lucky. It’s what I do.” \nhttp://www.berniepearl.com \n

SUMMARY:DAVID GRIER—SORRY THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say this show has been cancelled. We look forward to having David back under better circumstances. \n“David Grier is one of the best flatpicking guitarists on the planet earth”—GM. Check the dog in the picture. He isn’t sleeping he just got blown away by David’s playing. David is amazing\, one of the planets great flatpickers. Born in Washington\, D.C. in 1961\, a family move to Nashville at age 3 fully immersed David Grier into the bluegrass music world\, and at age 6\, he began playing the guitar. Today\, he is regarded as one of the premier acoustic guitarists in the world\, along with his early influences\, Doc Watson\, Tony Rice\, and family friend Clarence White. Recognized by Acoustic Guitar Magazine in 2000 as one of the Artists of the Decade\, and named Guitar Player of the Year three times by the International Bluegrass Music Association\, Grier has played on four Grammy Award-winning albums (True Life Blues: A Tribute to Bill Monroe; The Great Dobro Sessions; Alison Brown’s Fairweather; and Amazing Grace 2: A Country Salute to Gospel).Having released four albums on Rounder\, beginning in 1988 with Freewheeling\, Grier launched his own label\, Dreadnought Recordings\, with the 1998 debut release\, Hootenanny\, with Dirk Powell and Tim O’Brien (“endlessly inventive and tasteful” – All Music Guide). His most recent release\, Evocative (Dreadnought 2009)\, featuring 10 original tunes and a rich complement of collaborators (Victor Wooten\, Paul Franklin\, Stuart Duncan and more)\, has been hailed for its “deep musical introspection” as well as its “unmatchable mastery of the guitar” (Martin Mull). Other Dreadnought releases include the highly-acclaimed Live at the Linda (2007) and I’ve Got the House to Myself (2002) (“unfettered explosive invention” – Tim O’Brien).\nSelect Quotes\n“His unmatchable mastery of the guitar is ever present\, but it’s the emotional exploration of themusic as a whole that leaves a lasting impression. There is evidence everywhere of deep musical introspection: real soul-searching\, and\, I would have to say\, bravery.”~ Martin Mull\n “David Grier is a willful\, accurate instrumentalist whose every note seems to run through a bright\, intelligent sieve. He maintains an unqualified standard of excellence in guitar playing\, always with a knack for unorthodox surprise.”\n~ Claire Lynch\n“Grier sculpts fascinating forms the way air and moisture combine to create billowing cumuli.”\n~Jazz Review\n“I’ve had the good fortune to see David Grier live several times\, and while I certainly delight in watching him play\, I especially like to watch folks who have never seen him live before. There’s this denial/acceptance cycle as they try to rationalize what they “know” to be possible with the guitar versus what their eyes and ears are experiencing. . . . And he does it in this self-effacing way that almost undercuts his musical inventiveness [and] preternatural skill.”\n~Chris Thiessen\, Flatpick Guitar Magazine \nhttp://www.davidgrier.com \n

The playing ranges from amazing to flashy and beautiful.\nHere are a couple of quotes regarding Richard from Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. “The most amazing guy I know on the guitar. He can play anything I know\, only better.”\nChet Atkins\, CGP \nRichard Smith owns many instruments\, but his most prized is a guitar\, which has written on it\, “To my hero\, Richard” — signed Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins\nMandell says “Two Thumbpicks Up! SUMMARY:GUITARIST ED GERHARD—SORRY TO SAY CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist Ed Gerhard—Sorry to say cancelled. We look forward to his return when times allow for that.\n \nPerforming on 6-string\, 12-string\, slide guitar or Acoustic Hawaiian Lap Slide\, Gerhard captivates his audiences with virtuosity\, generosity and sly humor. Known for his gorgeous tone and compositional depth\, Gerhard can move a listener with a single note. Scott Alalrik of the Boston Globe said it best when he wrote ‘Gerhard does not write instrumentals. He writes songs only a guitar can sing. \nGerhard’s relationship with the guitar began at age 10\, when he happened upon classical guitar master Andrés Segovia on TV. “I’d heard all the pop music on the radio and maybe a little of that 60’s folk stuff\, but this was the first time I’d ever heard the guitar all by itself and the sound just instantly got me\,” he remembers. Ed finally got his first guitar at 14. His initial interest in classical guitar changed dramatically when he heard the music of bluesman Mississippi John Hurt. He quit lessons after the third one. He took some informal lessons with friends and learned by ear\, slowing down LPs to half-speed to pick out the tricky parts. At fifteen\, Ed was already beginning to perform in local church basement coffeehouses\, playing solo and jamming with friends. \nIn 1977 Gerhard moved to New Hampshire where he has resided ever since. Joining a thriving folk and acoustic music scene proved invaluable for the young guitarist. “There seemed to be no limitation on places to play back then\, or more importantly\, what you could play” says Ed. “You could play anything you wanted as long as people stayed around and drank.” When Gerhard was not performing solo he could often be seen sitting in with other musicians. “I loved to play\, it didn’t matter if I was solo or sideman.” During this period Ed began composing and arranging music for solo guitar\, using a staggering array of alternative guitar tunings. \nBased truly on the quality of his work\, Ed built his considerable reputation\, beginning with his debut album “Night Birds” in 1987. It garnered a spot in the Boston Globe Critics Poll Top 10 Albums of the Year.” Shortly after the album’s release\, Windham Hill Records included Ed on its Guitar Sampler (Vol.1). One of the highlights of the three hundred thousand unit selling Sampler\, “The Handing Down” introduced the world to the beauty of Ed Gerhard’s music. “That one piece made me a lot of friends around the world\,” Ed says. \nEd has released his ninth CD “There and Gone.” He was awarded a GRAMMY® for his inclusion on the CD “Henry Mancini; Pink Guitar.” Warner Brothers\, MelBay and Hal Leonard have all released Ed Gerhard’s music in books. His guitar work can be heard on recordings by Arlo Guthrie\, Jorma Kaukonen\, Bill Morrissey and in the Ken Burns films “Mark Twain” and “ The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” \nEd’s CD “Luna” is featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s 20th Anniversary list of the “240 Essential Albums.” “This soulful album of original compositions rich in melody\, chordal complexity and stylistic variety proves why Gerhard is considered to have the most exquisite acoustic guitar tone on the planet.” -Acoustic Guitar Magazine \nAlong with players like Ben Harper and David Lindley\, Gerhard’s unique approach to the Weissenborn (an acoustic Hawaiian lap slide guitar) is playing a significant role in reinvigorating interest in this somewhat esoteric but beautiful instrument. Ed’s style of Weissenborn playing is unique in that he composes and arranges music for solo Weissenborn with beautiful melodies\, complex chords and moving basslines\, unusual for an instrument that normally serves an accompaniment role. Ed is featured in the book “Lap Steel Guitar” alongside legendary players like Greg Leisz\, David Lindley\, Jerry Byrd and more. \nhttp://www.virtuerecords.com \n

SUMMARY:MISSY ANDERSEN —SORRY THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say this show has been cancelled and we look forward to Missy Andersen and her One Man Band returning in the not to distant future. \nIf a voice as rich\, supple\, and vibrant as Missy Andersen’s could come out of a bottle – not that it hasn’t been tried – every blues singer would be dripping deep soul.” – DAVE RUBIN\, Author & Journalist. \nMissy Andersen and her accompanist/husband\, Heine Andersen\, love what they do. Keeping a heavy touring schedule\, the tenacious twosome performs as a duo which showcases the couple’s individual and combined talents. In the absence of other instruments\, listeners find a greater appreciation for Missy’s gospel-tinged vocals and Heine’s Blues & Americana inspired guitar work. \nA charismatic performer known for her expressive and earthy vocals\, Missy Andersen received the coveted Blues Music Award nomination for Soul Blues Female Artist in 2015 and then again in 2016. Her sophomore album\, In the Moment\, received rave reviews from both critics and fans and ended up on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Albums. Raised in Queens\, NY\, Missy grew up singing along to the blues\, soul\, and gospel music of her parents and grandparents. These influences are evident throughout her recordings and live performances. \nOriginally from the country of Denmark\, but steeped in American Roots music\, Heine Andersen has toured extensively in both Europe and North America\, playing some of the most prestigious stages and festivals throughout his career. Noted for his polyrhythmic acoustic style\, Heine plays lead and rhythm as well as bass lines simultaneously. With eyes closed\, a listener would swear there were at least three musicians present. Add in Missy’s expressive\, deep soul vocal delivery plus humorous storytelling and it’s a perfect match of all things good. Says Missy\, “My dad is from South Carolina and my mother is from Detroit so\, basically\, I’m bilingual. I speak North and South so that’s soul and blues.” Indeed. \nhttps://missyandersen.com \n

SUMMARY:SIDELINE-SORRY THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say the guys are turning the tour bus around and heading home to be with their families during the impending health crisis. We wish them the best and look forward to having them back again in the future. \nOther shows will continue at Boulevard Music as scheduled otherwise. \nSorry for any inconvenience\, GM. \nEXTRA\, EXTRA\, EXTRA. . . THUNDER DAN WINS IBMA SONG OF THE YEAR!\nSideline was the recipient of the 2019 Song of the Year Award at the 30th Annual International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards. The IBMA Awards Ceremony was held in Raleigh\, North Carolina at the Duke Energy Performing Arts Center. Awards were voted on by the professional members of the IBMA. \nSideline is a pedigreed six-piece powerhouse whose style has set the pace in Bluegrass for over two decades. Founders Steve Dilling\, Skip Cherryholmes and Jason Moore can all claim their own historical significance to the genre as members of highly awarded groups\, multiple Grand Ole Opry appearances and years of national and international touring. \nWhat started as a side project for the seasoned players soon moved to the front and center as the three were joined by talents of Jacob Greer\, guitar; Zack Arnold\, mandolin; and Jamie Harper\, fiddle and began to record and release albums in earnest. \nTo listen to Sideline reminds the fan of why so many people fall in love with Bluegrass; pulse-pounding drive\, songs sung from the heart\, perfected timing and dynamics as well as a visceral emotion in the rendering. A band that was started as an off-season fun experiment has become a full-time dream team of players and singers. \nThe band\, recorded or live\, moves dynamically from well chosen\, hard-hitting neo-traditional covers of classic songs to new material curated by a band with a perfect sense of who they are and what they have to say. Combine all this with their on-stage energy and finesse as well as their powerful and affecting harmonies\, and you have the embodiment of the North Carolina Bluegrass sound. Sideline has released three national projects and currently records for the highly awarded Mountain Home Music Company based near Asheville\, NC. \nhttp://www.sidelinebg.com \nListen to Thunder Dan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWrdtE-jKQs \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:THE TILLERS
DESCRIPTION:The Tillers got their start in August 2007 when they started thumping around with some banjos and guitars and a big wooden bass. Their earliest gigs were for coins and burritos on the city’s famous Ludlow Street in the district of Clifton. The songs they picked were mostly older than their grandparents. Some came from Woody Guthrie\, some were southern blues laments\, and many were anonymous relics of Appalachian woods\, churches\, riverboats\, railroads\, prairies\, and coal mines. \nTheir look didn’t fit the stereotype. They were clearly recovering punk rockers with roots in city’s west side punk rock and hardcore scene. The punk influence gave their sound a distinctive bite\, setting them apart from most other folk acts- a hard-driving percussive strum and stomp that brought new pulse and vinegar to some very old songs. But their musical range soon proved itself as they floated from hard-tackle thumping to tender graceful melody\, all the while topped by Oberst and Geil’s clear tenor harmonies. \nThey began picking up weekly gigs around the city’s bar scene. It didn’t take long before their signature treatment of classic folk songs became the preferred versions of Cincinnati locals. Their audiences swelled\, growing into an assortment of grey-haired mechanics\, neo-hippies\, farmers\, punkers\, professors\, and random strays all stomping\, clapping\, singing\, and belting outbursts of “John Henry!” “Darlin’ Corey!” Ever since\, the band has come to each show with the same energy. They are magnetic showmen\, mature musicians\, and colorful storytellers. \nThe Tillers have since won over Cincinnati’s bar and festival scene\, and launching tours with tireless momentum. They were awarded CityBeat Magazine’s Cincinnati Entertainment Award for best Folk and Americana act in 2009\, 2010\, 2013\, 2014\, 2015 & 2017. Their relentless gigging has taken them throughout the East coast\, the Midwest and West\, the Appalachian south and to the UK and Ireland opening for the St.Louis crooner\, Pokey LaFarge. In the summer of 2009\, veteran NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw featured the Tillers on a documentary about US Route 50. Brokaw showcased the group’s song “There is Road (Route 50)” as a testimony to the highway’s role as a connective tissue of the nation. \nMusically\, the band wears many hats. Their sound has proven to be an appropriate fit with a wide range of musical styles- traditional folk\, bluegrass\, jazz\, punk rock and anything else they might run into. They have shared the stage with a broad swath of national touring acts\, ranging from renowned folk legends such as Doc Watson\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott\, Guy Clark\, Country Joe McDonald\, Jerry Douglas\, Iris Dement\, Pokey LaFarge\, The Hackensaw Boys and The Carolina Chocolate Drops to rambunctious rock daredevils like the Legendary Shack Shakers. \nAlways moving\, the Tillers continue to enter new territory. Their musical growth can be heard through the scape of their many releases\, 2008′s debut record Ludlow Street Rag\, 2010′s By The Signs\, 2011′s Wild Hog in the Woods\, 2012′s Live from the Historic Southgate House\, 2013′s Hand On The Plow\, 2018′s The Tillers and many more bootleg releases. The band’s lineup has also taken new shape. In February 2010\, long-time bassist Jason Soudrette fondly parted ways with the group\, being replaced by Aaron Geil\, brother of guitarist Sean. In 2015 the band added fiddler Joe Macheret to the ranks. Recalibrating has not slowed their pace. \nThey continue to plot their travels around the map\, electrifying new places and making new friends wherever they go. From place to place\, they carry with them more instruments\, new songs\, and funnier stories. They are Cincinnati’s traveling minstrels. Expect to hear from them soon. \nhttps://www.the-tillers.com/ \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:TRACY NEWMAN & ART PODELL
DESCRIPTION:Picture a scrawny fourteen-year-old girl sitting on a diving board over an empty pool on an overcast day\, strumming the same four chords over and over again\, on her brother’s cheap acoustic guitar. That’s Tracy Newman\, but that’s not how she sees herself. From Tracy’s POV\, the pool is full and clear blue\, it’s a bright sunny LA day\, and her brother’s guitar is the best guitar in the world! That kind of sums up singer/songwriter Tracy Newman’s body of work to date. There are some genuinely happy songs in the mix\, but overall\, if you really listen you will hear the truth. “A Place in the Sun” is great traveling music\, and you can’t help but smile and sing along\, then it hits you: Wow\, there’s more to this than meets the ear. “I Just See You” will make you cry for the beauty of what didn’t realize you had. “That’s What Love Can Do to Your Heart” will drag you kicking and screaming through the carefree beginning to the bitter end of your most memorable love affair. You will not be able to get these songs out of your mind. \nTracy is a founding member of the LA based improv group\, The Groundlings\, which over the years has become the farm company for SNL. She began writing TV comedy in 1990 with writing partner\, Jonathan Stark. Their first gig was Cheers\, then Bob\, The Nanny\, Ellen and The Drew Carey Show. In 1997\, they won an Emmy and Peabody Award for writing the groundbreaking “coming out” episode of Ellen. In 2001\, they created the ABC comedy\, According to Jim\, which ran for eight seasons. Tracy is back to music now\, full time. \nPLUS ON THE SAME BILL—ART PODELL \nHad Art Podell kept a diary\, it would have been a rich chronicle of the life of a folksinger during the Folk Era and as a songwriter in the years since\, spiced with a healthy serving of laughter. Unfortunately\, he didn’t. Instead\, at the coaxing of friends and former folkies\, he is spilling the beans on stage. He began in Greenwich Village with friend and fellow musician\, Paul Potash. Art and Paul released two albums on Columbia Records. The first — “Songs of Earth and Sky” — is considered a folk classic and is rumored to have influenced the early recordings of another “Art and Paul” (Garfunkel and Simon). (Begrudgingly\, Art finally admitted last year that they were “pretty good.”) In the Village\, Peter Yarrow\, their friend\, shared a new song with them called “Puff\, the Magic Dragon” and it was Art and Paul who first recorded the song in 1961 — well over a year before Peter\, Paul and Mary’s version. In 1961\, the boys headed west to the L.A. folk scene. “We were so successful\,” Art remembers while scratching his head\, “we broke up.” Art turned to songwriting. In short order\, he had songs recorded by Rod McKuen\, The Smothers Brothers\, Glenn Yarbrough\, Joe and Eddie\, Bud and Travis\, Barry and Barry\, and\, eventually\, The New Christy Minstrels\, whom he joined as one of the original members in 1962 until 1966. Quite a ride — from the Troubadour to Carnegie Hall in less than six months…national TV\, college concerts\, European tours\, and performances at the White House. Art co-wrote the title song for Ann Murray’s Christmas album\, ‘Christmas Wishes’.Art continues to write and perform and hosts a bi-monthly segment of “Roots Music and Beyond” on KPFK 90.7FM – Los Angeles\, a Pacifica Station in Los Angeles. His new CD\, ‘From The Village To The Canyon’ was recently featured in an exhibit at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles featuring the music of Laurel Canyon. \n“Art Podell presents an evening of music\, laughter\, songs\, stories and memories shared through his signature story/songs. He sometimes divulges a few secrets about friends — famous and not. (Consequently\, he is currently looking for a qualified bodyguard – preferably one who plays banjo \nhttps://tracynewman.com \nhttp://artpodell.com/ \n$17.50Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:DORIAN MICHAEL & KENNY BLACKWELL WITH FRED SOKOLOW
DESCRIPTION:Mandolinist/guitarist Kenny Blackwell studied with Jethro Burns before moving to California where he joined fiddler Richard Green’s band in ’93. His mandolin and guitar work have been heard in TV and movie scores. He was a member of the famed Laurel Canyon Ramblers which he joined in ’94.\n \nGuitarist Dorian Michael has played in about every style and in every type of work situation a blue collar musician could hope for. After years of honky-tonk electric guitar followed by concentrating on solo fingerstyle guitar this duo with Kenny is a real horizon broadener. \nKenny Blackwell & Dorian Michael \nAfter Kenny and Dorian met by chance in a music store in San Luis Obispo\, then at a backyard jam session\, and again at a music convention in Los Angeles\, they decided it was time to play some music together. Kenny\, one of California’s foremost mandolinists\, wanted a chance to play outside of the bluegrass genre in which he is constantly in demand. Guitarist Dorian Michael was looking for a skillfull musician who understood a wide variety of roots music. Six months later their first CD was released and they were touring as a duo. \nThe duo’s diverse backgrounds are the wellspring for a performance of exciting and heartfelt music. Their enthusiasm for making music and their respect for their audience is plainly evident whenever they perform. Says Dorian\, “Some music makes you feel deeply\, some music makes you think and some tunes are played just for the sheer fun of it. We like to try to get to all those places in the space of a concert.” \nPlus Fred Sokolow a master of several stringed instruments\, and who has recorded countless CDs and written numerous instruction books\, from rock to bluegrass to jazz. Bob Baxter  was quoted as saying\, because of Fred’s mastering of so many genres of music\, that “Sokolow should definitely be included with those four other guys on Mt. Rushmore.” \nhttps://dorianmichael.com/kenny-dorian/ \nhttp://www.sokolowmusic.com \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:PAUL ASBELL
DESCRIPTION:From his early years\, playing blues on Chicago’s South Side\, to his present multi-faceted career based out of northern Vermont\, Paul has earned an underground reputation as a true“musician’s musician”. He has played and recorded with Muddy Waters\, John Lee Hooker\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Lightnin’ Hopkins\, Otis Rush\, Magic Sam\, Earl Hooker\, Lightnin’ Slim\, Paul Butterfield\, Sam Lay\, Pops Staples\, Donny Hathaway\, and numerous others while in his home- town of Chicago\, Ill. Paul moved to Vermont in the heady “back-to-the-land” days of 1971\, where he still lives. He soon started playing with ahead-spinningly diverse array of artists\, including Big Mama Thornton\, singer-songwriters Paul Siebel\, Jim Ringer\, Mary McCaslin\, and Rosalie Sorrells\, jazz greats Jon Hendricks\, Bobby McFerrin\, Sonny Stitt\, and Nick Brignola\, and many others. In 1978\, seeking an outlet for more personal musical visions\, he formed Kilimanjaro\, and recorded 2 award-winning albums for Philo Records which led to several appearances at the Kool Jazz Festival at SPAC\, the Atlanta Jazz Festival\, the Montreal Jazz Festival\, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland\, the Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen\, and numerous national tours and concert dates. In 1981\, he and other members of Kilimajaro joined forces with a legendary saxophonist/blues singer to form Big Joe Burrell and the Unknown Blues Band\, which remained a Northeast regional favorite until Big Joe’s passing in 2005. Performance/recording credits in recent years include David Bromberg\, Paul Butterfield\, Betty Carter\, Joshua Redman\, James Carter\, Kermit Ruffins\, Michael Ray\, the Sun Ra Arkestra\, The Wild Magnolias\, John Stowell\, guitar wunderkind Julian Lage\, and ex-student Trey Anastasio. He has also taught guitar for over 40 years. Private instruction remains a favored format\, but Paul has also taught for many years on a university level\, including positions at Dartmouth College\, Skidmore College\, St. Michaels College\, Johnson State College\, and presently at Middlebury Collegeand the University of Vermont. Since 1994\, Paul has been reconnecting with his original folk-based roots in enthusiastically received festival shows and solo concerts. Recent appearances include Healdsburg\, Woodstock (NY) and Newport Guitar Festivals\, Merle Fest\, and numerous acoustic venues across the country. His 2 solo acoustic CDs\, “Steel-String Americana”and “Roots and Branches”\, received rave reviews in Acoustic Guitar\, Guitar Player\, Sing Out\, Downbeat\, Blues Revue\, and other mags for their highly individualized twists on blues and jazz standards\, old-timey country-based themes and original pieces from the“American Roots” tradition. The Flynn Theatre called them “A genre-blurring\, virtuosic waltz through the deep heritage of American folklore\, where styles of Robert Johnson\, Doc Watson and Dr. John rub elbows with those of Joe Pass and Bill Frisell.” Notable recent projects include the release of his 3rd solo CD\, “From Adamant To Atchafalaya”\, an award-winning CD “Homecoming” with jazz-fusion group Kilimanjaro\, and a feature article in the April\, 2010 issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine. \nhttps://paulasbell.com/ \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:Christie Lenée
DESCRIPTION:The 2017 International Fingerstyle Guitar Champion “Christie Lenée” is a captivating performer with a devoted following among instrumental\, folk and rock band audiences. Combining guitar virtuosity\, lyrical storytelling and passion for positivity\, she elevates crowds with blissful inspiration and a fire of musicality. \nChristie’s unique guitar work and profound instrumental compositions are well described as ‘Michael Hedges meets Joni Mitchell and Dave Matthews.’ Her lyrics are consciously uplifting\, powerful and stick in your head as soon as you hear them. With a menu of percussive and sonic effects\, and larger than life sounding instruments\, her solo shows are said to embody an entire universe of music. \nChristie’s pieces have been showcased at the NAMM Show in Anaheim and Nashville\, live on National Television and Radio\, and on stage with artists such as Tim Reynolds (guitarist for Dave Matthews Band)\, Andy McKee\, Tommy Emmanuel\, Amy Ray from the Indigo Girls\, and Stanley Jordan to name a few. Her most recent album “STAY” was one of three finalists for “Best CD of 2016” (Indie Acoustic Project Awards)\, including the song “Love Who You Are” nominated for a 2016 Posi Award in the category “Songs for Personal Transformation.” \nChristie spent most of 2017 on tour in the US\, Australia\, and many countries around Asia. She’s now back in the studio preparing for her next release with a deeply heartfelt collection of new material. Meanwhile her album “STAY” is still making traction\, including 3 instrumental pieces produced by the legendary and Multi-Grammy Award Winning Producer Will Ackerman (founder of Windham Hill Records). These glorious instrumental pieces vary\, from “Soaring Over Glacier Bay” with 27 cellos and a symphonic essence\, to “Sunset Rebirth” with a bamboo flute\, and the simplicity of “Sweet Little Piece” on the 12 string Veillette Gryphon Guitar. \nThe title track “Stay” shines a bright light on suicide awareness and prevention. Christie’s message is that every person is special and has something unique to contribute to this world. In her own words: “I intend to translate to the listener that it’s okay to go through rough times. In those moments when you feel like running… whether from a job\, a relationship\, or running from life itself… Take a breath. Stay\, and know that there is another way. You’re the only one who can be you.” \nhttp://www.christielenee.com \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:ALBERTO LOMBARDI
DESCRIPTION:Italian virtuoso guitarist Alberto Lombardi is an internationally renowned acoustic solo fingerstyle and electric rock player. His captivating acoustic performances are comprised of elaborate arrangements of great classics both of the Italian and international tradition\, incorporating fingerpicking\, flatpicking\, some looping and singing\, but also original songs and compositions. \nHe toured extensively in Europe and USA\, playing major guitar festivals like Muriel Anderson’s All Star guitar Night\, Peter Finger’s International Guitar Night\, Chet Atkins appreciation Society\, Sarzana and also in clubs like NYC Rockwood music hall and Nashville’s city winery. \nPut among the 8 guitarist to watch in 2018 by Vintage Guitar Magazine\, and among the best ten emerging fingerstyle guitarists in the world by Guitar Masters Poland Alberto is a Taylor Guitars and B&G guitars supported artist. \nHis arrangement of “Volare” gained Stefan Grossman’s attention\, who released an instructional video of Alberto’s work. He then went on releasing multiple albums and instructional videos for Stefan Grossman and Peter Finger. \nHis records have received many great reviews\, first of all from the master himself Tommy Emmanuel ( “It sounds beautiful and your playing and arrangements are very powerful! Big admiration to you!”)\, but also from renowned magazines such as Acoustic Guitar\, Fingerstyle Journal\, Vintage guitar\, Minor 7th\, Chitarra acustica. \nAs an electric soloist Alberto has rocked stages as big as Italian Stadiums like Olimpico and San Siro\, or Pavillao Atlantico in Lisboa. He’s now touring with the Alberto Lombardi Stratocaster tribute\, interpreting all the great music performed on the Strat by legends like Clapton\, Hendrix\, Gilmour\, SRV etc. x \nHis arrangements are very personal\, derived from the different musical experiences Alberto has in rock\, jazz\, country and pop as a session player. Yet they’re rooted in the style of the great Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel. He digs into complex arrangements of Italian and American classics\, translating them on the guitar (Georgia on My Mind\, Volare\, ‘O Sole Mio)\, picking up clever harmonic movements from those great arrangers and composers and making them his own\, on the six string.\nHe also write his own material\, both fingerstyle instrumentals and as a singer songwriter . \nAlberto has also been a session player\, studio owner and record producer/arranger/mixer for 25 years\, based in Rome Italy. \nHis collaborations are diverse and range from pop artists like Robbie Dupree and the original singers of the band Chic\, to legend mixing engineer Bob Clearmountain (Springsteen\, Rolling Stones\, Bryan Adams). \nhttps://www.albertolombardi.com/ \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:TONY MCMANUS & JULIA TAOSPERN
DESCRIPTION:Tony’s music is beyond beautiful\, it’s perfect” – Tommy Emmanuel \n“Julia’s bell like voice and her filigrane fiddle playing are thrilling. She moves effortlessly from fiddle to guitar\, her solo is impressive.” – SalonFestival \nTony McManus is the leading celtic guitarist worldwide and has just been listed as one of the 50 transcendental guitarists of all time by Guitar Player Magazine. While Tony is known as a soloist his frequent collaborations with diverse musicians have always been a significant part of his work. \nJulia Toaspern is a multi-talented musician from Berlin who combines classical training on violin and voice with a wide interest in genres such as jazz\, baroque and traditional music. She has released two albums of original songs and has performed in both classical and singer/songwriter modes on both sides of the Atlantic. On top of all this her skills as a guitarist are prodigious and make an exciting fit with Tony’s work. \nTheir twin guitar treatment of traditional music is unique and each supports the other in exploring the harmonic possibilities of these old\, and not so old\, tunes. Each of the pair both flatpicks and fingerpicks at the highest level but always at the service of the tune rather than a display of technique. Her violin can effortlessly morph into a fiddle as she weaves from Italian madrigal to Scottish reel. Julia’s songs go to the heart of love and loss\, hope and survival and are inflected with musical input from a wide and eclectic experience of musical life. Tony’s and Julia’s arrangements are rooted in deep musicality and heartfelt expression. \nHaving met over a conversation in Berlin about JS Bach\, together they play and sing music that speaks to them and hopefully through them to a wider audience. \nhttp://www.tonymcmanus.com/?page_id=733 \n$20.00Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:TOM BOPP—YOSEMITE TREASURE
DESCRIPTION:Tonight we are thrilled to death to present one of Gary Mandell’s favorite musicians/entertainers in the world. Musician/Historian Tom Bopp has entertained and educated Yosemite’s guests at the Wawona Hotel (dba Big Trees Lodge) and The Ahwahnee (dba Majestic Yosemite Hotel) since 1983. His interest in Yosemite’s cultural history led him to develop interpretive events for the Yosemite National Park Centennial in 1990\, the Camp Curry Centennial in 1999\, The Ahwahnee 75th Anniversary (2002)\, Yosemite Heritage Holidays (2003-2009)\, regular programs on Wawona history\, Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir’s 1903 camping trip to Yosemite\, Yosemite music and culture\, and a film documentary called Vintage Songs of Yosemite. \nBorn in southern California (1957) and raised in Torrance\, Tom studied classical piano for 10 years and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in Music Theory & Composition. \nTom’s repertoire is an eclectic but by no means comprehensive mélange\, representing his shifting tastes in music\, or as he puts it\, a short attention-span. \nWhether he’s performing cabaret songs\, antique salon music\, cowboy ditties\, leftovers from long-ago classical piano lessons\, Depression-era tunes\, or ragtime\, spontaneity is the thing Tom likes best. \nIn January\, 2006 Tom was one of seven out of some 40\,000 worldwide employees to receive Delaware North Corporation’s Legacy Award of Service Excellence. \nOn December 17\, 2008\, Tom was awarded the annual Yosemite Fund Award (now Yosemite Conservancy) “in recognition of the significant effort he has made to enhance the value of Yosemite National Park as a national treasure.” \nTom entertained at a private home gathering for Vice President and Mrs. Dick Cheney in 2006\, and opened for President Barack Obama for his public address in Yosemite Valley in 2016. \nhttp://www.yosemitemusic.com \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:FRANKIE GAVIN—FIDDLER FROM DE DANNAN
DESCRIPTION:Innovation may be the buzz-word in Traditional music\, but Frankie Gavin’s digressions are not in the common areas of tempo and superficial style-impressions. His contemporary borrowings of art-deco and music-hall Irishness are re-jigged in original avenues of exploration. His dextrous treatment of troublesome tunes might get even the Pope out on the floor\, his orchestration could break hearts.\nA superbly uncompromising player\, he makes refreshment of the old by picking out and polishing every detail and setting it off in a steady\, listenable pace. Gavin edgy and brilliant on both fiddle and flute\, with always the most meticulous attention given to tone and variation. Live\, his tune sets are perfectionism that drive and are driven by an audience spontaneity that spurs Gavin to push fiddle from shriek to rasping bass.\nTears and cheers erupt spontaneously\, the goodwill of his mixed-age audiences has always been great sauce. Like herding the mythic creac\, Frankie Gavin here whoops a great retrospective before him into the Ogham of Celtic Valhalla. \nIn the early 1970s Gavin played musical sessions at Galway’s Cellar Bar\, with Alec Finn (bouzouki\, guitar)\, Mickey Finn (fiddle)\, Charlie Piggott (banjo)\, and Johnnie (Ringo) McDonagh (bodhrán). In 1974\, from these and further sessions\, he founded the group De Dannan with Alec Finn. \nWhen De Dannan split-up in 2003\, Gavin founded a new group\, Frankie Gavin and The New De Dannan\, which led to an acrimonious exchange between Gavin and Finn. According to Finn\, he had registered the ‘De Dannan’ name. \nGavin has played and recorded with Andy Irvine\, The Rolling Stones\, Elvis Costello\, Stéphane Grappelli\, and Frankie Goes to Hollywood\, and in 2010 became reputedly the fastest fiddle-player in the world\, with an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. \nhttps://frankiegavin-dedannan.irish/ \n$20.00Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:JIM KWESKIN & JULI CROCKETT (PLUS EVANGENITAL MEMBERS)
DESCRIPTION:Jim Kweskin is probably best known as a singer and bandleader. He also created one of the bedrock guitar styles of the folk revival\, adapting the ragtime-blues fingerpicking of artists like Blind Boy Fuller to the more complex chords of pop and jazz. He has maintained a remarkably consistent musical vision since his jug band days\, continuing to explore traditional folk and blues with the sophisticated sensibility of a jazz musician and jazz with the communal simplicity of a folk artist. He has recorded solo ventures\, as a member of the U and I band\, and with U and I bandmate Samoa Wilson\, and continues to perform widely in various formats. In recent years he and Geoff Muldaur have often appeared as a duo\, revisiting and expanding on their Jug Band repertoire. Tonight Jim will be accompanied Juli Crockett and members of the Evangenitals. The teaming of Jim Kweskin and Juli Crockett (The Evangenitals) is the happy collision of classic and contemporary Americana music. Together\, Kweskin and Crockett performances are celebrations of virtuoso musicianship seasoned with humor and exuberance. Other members of the Evangenitals joining Jim and Juli this night are Cody Farwell (bass)\, Andrea Baker (violin)\, and Michael Feldman (piano). \n \n \n“The rock historian Ed Ward went so far as to place the Kweskin Band alongside the Beatles\, the Rolling Stones and the Byrds as that period’s most influential groups.” – Alex Ward\, The New York Times \n“When it came to jug band music\, razzmatazz jazz\, and swinging spins on Piedmont blues back in the ’60s\, Jim Kweskin was top dog. Jim Kweskin’s famed Jug Band hot-wired an entire movement that still has a certain impact on the folk scene today.” – Jim Macnie\, The Providence Phoenix \nhttp://www.jimkweskin.com \n$20.00Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:BLUE SUMMIT
DESCRIPTION:“Could This Kid Be the Next Allison Krauss?” Mother Jones magazine asked about AJ Lee — and for good reason. AJ has been turning heads in the bluegrass world since she was just 7. She has won the Northern California Bluegrass Society’s (NCBS) Best Female Vocalist award nine times — and she’s only 21! Popular Webzine Californiality called AJ “California’s Hottest Singer” because of her jaw-droppingly beautiful voice. AJ previously played in the phenomenal young band The Tuttles with AJ Lee\, along with Sullivan Tuttle and his father\, brother and sister – acclaimed Americana artist Molly Tuttle. Sullivan has also been winning awards from the NCBS (Best Guitarist & Best Male Vocalist)\, and in the past two years AJ Lee and Blue Summit took home the Best Band of the Year award. They have recently been nominated as finalists for the FreshGrass Band Award\, IBMA Momentum Band\, and IBMA Momentum Vocalist (AJ). \nAJ and Sullivan are joined in the band by super talented musicians and singers Jesse Fichman and Chad Bowen.
