Now\, he’s brought together an exciting new gaggle of LA’s finest young musicians to form his newest venture\, DENNIS WITCHER & THE BREW.\nTHE BREW:\nADAM MOSS is an amazing fiddler\, singer & songwriter. When not playing with The Brew\, he’s usually touring with his twin brother David in their hugely popular band\, the Brother Brothers. They had a great writeup in Rolling Stone Magazine. SMITH ALLEN is an extremely talented singer/songwriter and musician. Smith’s voice and vocal stylings are a standout wherever he performs. The warmth of his tenor vocals whether singing lead or harmonies will win over a crowd every time. LIAM LEWIS is a mult-instrumentalist and singer from the LA area. With a background in traditional Celtic music and bluegrass\, Liam has toured the circuit of Scottish Highland Games for the past 8 years with LA based band The Ploughboys\, and main-staged many of California’s Bluegrass festvals with his newgrass band Hot October. His newest duo project Stepwise has just come out with their first full album of original fiddle tunes. ANDY KEATHLEY is the former founder of the LA based band The Get Down Boys. Andy is not only a great singer and songwriter\, he’s also one of the most sought-after guitar players on the LA Bluegrass scene today. He didn’t want Dennis to mention it\, but he recently won first place at the Topanga Banjo & Fiddle Contest for advanced guitar. JORDAN KATZ is a truly fine Banjo player whose talents have been seen on TV shows such as American Idol\, The Late Late Show\, Drop the Mic\, and The Tonight Show. DESCRIPTION:The fabulous legend of Southern California blues\, Bernie Pearl (with special guests) who has just released his new book Sittin” on the Right Side of the Blues filled with classic historical blues photos and notes dedicated to the legacy of the people Bernie learned from. \nThe blues is life itself to Bernie Pearl. A guitarist with an upbeat\, finger-poppin’ picking style he learned at the elbows of bluesmasters Sam ‘Lightnin’ Hopkins\, Mance Lipscomb\, Mississippi Fred MacDowell\, and others. Yet\, Bernie Pearl is no hidebound traditionalist. As music critics and aficionados have said for years\, he is a craftsman who packs his songs with melodic interpretations that are new and personal each time he picks up his vintage Martin or National. To hear him tell it\, “I’m not a retro player. I’m playing real blues for right now.” Special guests this evening include Ray Bailey on vocals and guitar\, Job Striles a master of West Coast style Blues ala T-Bone Walker\, and fine pianist Steve F’dor.\n \nBernie\, who grew up in the Los Angeles community of Boyle Heights\, took up the guitar in the 1950’s. Later\, at his brother’s legendary blues showcase\, the Ash Grove\, he met\, studied with\, and often performed with greats like Hopkins\, Lipscomb\, and MacDowell as well as with Freddie King\, Albert Collins\, and Big Mama Thornton. Bernie played duets with John Lee Hooker at Gerde’s Folk City in Greenwich Village. “They were my teachers\,” he says\, “and it wasn’t just music they were teaching. If you took Mance or Lightnin’ out fishing you got philosophy\, history\, and lessons in life”. \nArmed with the teachings of those and other blues icons\, Bernie raises the roof with dazzling guitar solos – acoustic and electric – and with his own Bernie Pearl Blues Band\, which has backed the likes of B.B. King\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Willie Dixon\, and Big Joe Turner. The Bernie Pearl Blues Band has been a popular draw at many of Southern California’s best-known musical haunts: the House of Blues\, California Plaza Presents\, the Blue Café\, Disney’s California Adventure\, and the Playboy Pasadena Community Jazz Festival. Bernie has appeared at major Festivals in Chicago\, The Poconos\, Vancouver\, Portland\, and Long Beach\, as well as in Europe. \nA life-long blues evangelist\, Bernie began broadcasting Nothin’ But the Blues on KPPC FM in 1968\, making him L.A.’s first all-blues FM disc jockey. He went on to host the blues on KLON and KCRW from 1980-92\, helping found the Long Beach Blues Festival along the way. \nHis 15-year relationship with Louisiana blues man Harmonica Fats produced three outstanding CDs\, with the unplugged Two Heads Are Better and Blow\, Fat Daddy\, Blow\, each garnering W.C. Handy nominations in the mid-1990’s. Tonight Pearl shares the stage with bassist/vocalist  Elizabeth Hangan who is a perfect match to set the groove on the tunes they perform. \nBernie applied his studio skills as a producer and songwriter-arranger of jazz-rocking violin pioneer Papa John Creach’s critically-acclaimed 1992 Papa Blues CD (Bee Bump BBCD 03). \nAs president of Big Time Blues Productions\, Pearl was named national “Blues Promoter of the Year” by the Blues Foundation in 1987\, and he continues to book\, promote\, advertise\, and oversee blues acts at annual events such as the Big Time Blues Festival and the Blues Harmonica Blowdown. In 1990 she won the State Hammered Dulcimer Championship. Not only did he come with a song\, but he also made a video to go along with it. Texas born E.J. Mathews\, originally from Atlanta\, Texas now makes his home in Dallas. Mathews lived just outside Atlanta\, Texas in the small rural community of Bivins\, Texas. Located near Leek Creek and the Louisiana state line he got his musical influence from his grandfather who was from south Georgia. Mathews recalls his “granddaddy Zan used to sit on the front porch at night and play slide guitar with his pocket knife\, all the while spitting watermelon seeds off the porch and watching lightnin’ bugs flicker in the night.”\nHis granddaddy loved listening to country and blues and Mathews says his musical style is somewhere in the middle\, a little bit of the blues\, with a touch of some country mixed in.\nHe said he wants to tell a story through his music his way and that’s the same philosophy he uses when writing a song such as “Down On The Creek (Ford Pickup).”\nMathews says he has over a hundred songs he has written and has been told by some people his music sounds like swamp boogie and country blues. DESCRIPTION:Born of a 1968 session in Paisley\, Scotland and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill\, the Tannahill Weavers have made an international name for their special brand of Scottish music\, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms. The Tannahills began to attract attention when founding members Roy Gullane and Phil Smillie added the full- sized highland bagpipes to the on-stage presentations\, the first professional Scottish folk group to successfully do so. The combination of the powerful pipe solos\, Roy’s driving guitar backing and lead vocals\, and Phil’s ethereal flute playing breathed new life into Scotland’s vast repertoire of traditional melodies and songs.Three years and a dozen countries later\, the Tannahills were the toast of Europe\, having won the Scotstar Award for Folk Record of the Year with their third album\, The Tannahill Weavers. Rocky Neck started in the bluegrass music field by winning first place in the 2009 Topanga Banjo and Fiddle “Band Contest”. Their first recording\, “Rocky Neck Bluegrass Band” released in November of 2010\, was recorded in a 1920’s cabin in the mountain community of Big Bear\, CA\, and was mastered by legendary bluegrass engineer Billy Wolf in Arlington\, VA. DESCRIPTION:Hailed by John Renbourn as ‘the best Celtic guitarist in the world’ Tony McManus has also been listed as one of the 50 transcendent guitarists of all time by Guitar Player Magazine. Tony has both extended and transcended the parameters of contemporary Celtic music. Ranked by peers and predecessors alike alongside the guitar world’s all-time greats\, his fiendishly dexterous\, dazzlingly original playing draws on traditions from the entire Celtic world\, along with still further-ranging flavours such as jazz and eastern European music. Long applauded for his uncanny ability to transpose the delicate\, complex ornamentation characteristic of traditional bagpipe or fiddle tunes – even the phrasing of a Gaelic song – onto his own six strings\, McManus is increasingly being acknowledged also as a pioneering figure in bridging the realms of Celtic music and other guitar genres.\nBorn in 1965 in Paisley\, near Glasgow\, McManus was introduced to traditional music via the family record collection. Having first tried his hand at the fiddle\, whistle and mandolin\, he took up the guitar aged ten\, although subsequent academic inclinations got him halfway through a PhD in maths before the music won out. After rapidly making his name as an unusually fluent and sensitive accompanist\, he took the solo plunge with a triumphant main-stage debut on the final night of Glasgow’s inaugural Celtic Connections festival in 1994\, supporting Capercaillie in front of a 2500-strong crowd.\nWith the loyal support of Greentrax Recordings in Scotland Tony’s first self-titled recording in 1996\, followed by Pourquoi Quebec in 1999 led to worldwide recognition. However\, it was with the release of Ceol More in 2002 that Tony’s stature as a first-class musician reached a new level. Having heard his session work on several albums\, Nashville based Compass Records released “Ceol More” in North America to universally ecstatic reviews. Critics hailed the focused\, spell-binding nature of the music\, from the plaintive Jewish hymn “Shalom Aleichem” to the ingenious arrangement of the Charles Mingus tune “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat”.
