SUMMARY:T SISTERS
DESCRIPTION:Distinguished by close harmonies\, catchy melodies and potent lyricism\, the T Sisters have created a refreshing brew of indie-folk/Americana music. Blood sisters Erika\, Rachel and Chloe Tietjen flow seamlessly between styles and moods\, from roots to pop and sassy to sincere\, captivating listeners with their eclectic sound and soaring harmonies. \nThis past spring\, the T’s journeyed to Nashville to create a compelling EP with renowned artist/producer Oliver Wood of The Wood Brothers. While T Sisters’ prior releases delved into personal themes\, this project represents a more mature and reflective chapter for the sisters\, exploring deeper subjects of societal division\, dubious authority\, spiritual renewal and activism through music. Adding to the T Sisters’ self-accompaniment and inimitable sibling harmonies\, We Are Bound features the distinctive playing of Jano Rix (The Wood Brothers)\, Chris Wood (The Wood Brothers; Medeski\, Martin and Wood) and Oliver himself. Oliver says of the T’s\, “Coming from a brother band\, I especially appreciate the T Sisters. The soul of the family comes through their combined voices\, and they create that sound that only family can get. \nT Sisters were chosen for American Music Abroad\, a selective State Department-sponsored program fostering diplomacy through music. The sisters performed and conducted workshops in the Middle East and North Africa emphasizing girls empowerment and the power of music to create social awareness and change. \n\nYoung T Sisters\, Berkeley circa 1990 \n\nIn the last few years\, they’ve been honored to support such acts as The Indigo Girls\, Amos Lee\, The Wood Brothers\, Todd Rundgren\, Elephant Revival\, The California Honeydrops\, and more. Notable performances include Outside Lands\, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, Merlefest Album Hour\, High Sierra Music Festival\, Americana Music Association Festival\, Music City Roots\, and Garrison Keillor’s ‘A Prairie Home Companion.’ \nhttps://tsisters.com \n$17.50Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:ROY BOOK BINDER + RICK RUSKIN (WORKSHOP ALSO AT 4PM)
DESCRIPTION:An evening concert plus afternoon workshop. \nSINGER-SONGWRITER-STORYTELLING-BLUESMAN….. Roy Book Binder has been rambling around the world for the past 45 years! He gave up his Greenwich Village “pad” in the early 1970’s and lived in his “Tour Bus” for the next 15 years criss crossing the US and appearing at festivals throughout Canada & Europe. \nBook Binder\, travelled with the legendary Rev. Gary Davis in the late 60’s….. The Book\, recorded his first solo acoustic Blues album in the 70’s\, which was the first to receive 5 stars in DOWNBEAT magazine! In the late 80’s ‘The Book’ was part of Bonnie Raitt’s East Coast Tour\, which included an appearance on The Grand Old Opry which led to almost 30 appearances on NASHVILLE NOW’s\, Ralph Emory Show! In the 90’s he often appeared with JORMA KAUKONEN (who recorded 2 of Roy’s songs) \nTHE GOOD BOOK\, Roy’s latest release of all original songs\, reached #3 on AirPlayDirect’s Americana charts! #1 was Guy Clark & #2 was the late Townes Van Zandt. Folkdj.org had Roy in the top 3 artists for July 2017. \nRoy has the goods: the original\, the bare-knuckle\, the low-down . . . blues. Who can say they were friends with the Rev. Gary Davis\, Pink Anderson and Robert Lockwood? And toured with Arthur Big Boy Crudup\, Hot Tuna\, JJ Cale & Bonnie Raitt ? Roy can. He has the stories\, the licks\, and the mystery of timeless music in his fingers. He’s been featured on a PBS special and interviewed by Terry Gross on “Fresh Air.” He’s also a regular at Fur Peace Ranch\, where he teaches along with Jorma Kaukonen. When he brings his ‘Tour Bus’ to town\, a one-man blues-fest ensues. He plays and he entertains\, feeding us music and stories\, and the evening is a celebration for us all. \n“…so brilliant at times that he seems to transcend normal approaches to the guitar….Ruskin may be the smoothest technical player around. Flashy\, fast\, inventive and musical and that isn’t easy.” (GUITAR PLAYER) \nRick Ruskin started playing guitar in 1962 and in just one year became a respected professional musician in his native Detroit\, Michigan. In 1964\, while still in Jr. High School\, he was chosen to open the bill for the Reverend Gary Davis at Detroit’s legendary Retort Coffee House. This engagement resulted in a fast and permanent friendship with the master blues\, ragtime\, and gospel guitarist. Rev. Davis was so taken by the young Ruskin’s skill and eagerness\, that he invited Rick to spend that summer with him at his Long Island home. By the end of the summer\, Davis stopped teaching Rick new material and told him\, “It’s time you started paying attention to your own music.” Ruskin has been doing that ever since. \nIn addition to being a top guitar player\, Rick is a singer\, composer and arranger of note. He is known for his many fine compositions such as “Maze Music for Mice\,” “Six String Conspiracy\,” and “Kudah Duxx\,” a track previously featured in Fingerstyle Guitar magazine. He’s also known for his arrangements of such pop classics as “Lady Madonna\,” “Riki Don’t Lose That Number\,” and “Here Comes The Sun\,”\nRick will also perform some tunes from his latest CD\, “How to be smarter than your guitar.” \nRick and Roy will also be conducting a fingerstyle guitar workshop featuring blues/ragtime/pop styles from 4-6pm at Boulevard Music on the day of the concert. \nhttp://www.roybookbinder.com \nhttp://www.liondogmusic.com \n$20.00Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:JIM KIMO WEST + MARK LEGGETT
DESCRIPTION:Two fabulous fingerstyle players with an array of styles on the same bill. One a “Slack Key” guitar specialist and the other a fabulous fingerstyle/slide guitarist who melds the two seamlessly into fantastic arrangements. \nSlack Key” means that some of the strings on a guitar are slacked from standard tuning\, with the bass\, melody\, and improvisation played at the same time\, and is often played to accompany traditional dance or song. Many players use their own special tunings that often remain proprietary secrets. Tonights show will feature this unique and beautiful style of playing.\nJim “Kimo” West first visited Hana\, Maui in 1985\, after a long summer on the road as guitarist for famed musical satirist\, “Weird Al” Yankovic. As the sounds of Gabby Pahinui\, the Sons of Hawai’i\, Sonny Chillingworth\, The Sunday Manoa\, and others\, played on the turntable\, he jammed along for fun and relaxation. Already a devotee of open tunings\, he was immediately drawn to the gentle rhythms of ki ho ‘alu (slack key guitar) and soon began writing his own songs. The rich physical and cultural landscape of the Hana Coast has provided the inspiration for many of his compositions.\nWhile always retaining the heartfelt essence of traditional slack key\, Jim “Kimo” West brings much of his own musical heritage to his original ki ho’alu instrumentals. His style can best be described as “nahenahe”\, meaning “soft\, sweet or gentle voice”\, a fusion of old and new but still rooted deeply in tradition.\nJim lives in Los Angeles where he writes and produces music which has appeared in feature films and TV shows on all the major networks and cable channels.\nJim West’s latest recording “Moku Maluhia-Peaceful island” was nominated for a Grammy. “His Slack Key explorations in his unique and beautiful style\, and in various tunings\, including two of his own invention\, further accentuating his own sound”\n— George Winston. pianist/ guitarist \nPlus on the same bill Mark Leggett\, an artist who spends most of his time doing film scoring\, making a rare appearance performing his original tunes and arrangements. Mark will be playing his fingestyle/slide arrangements of original and classic tunes. Twice Emmy nominated for his composing work\, Mark has written music for Levon Helm and The Band\, Dolly Parton’s films\, the tv show My Name is Earl\, and many others. We recently saw Mark perform at the Wiltern Theatre opening the show performing 3 songs solo for a screeening of Easy Rider done with a fabulous live band performing the original songs and incidental music accompanying the dialogue instead of the pre-recorded original songs and music. Mark’s arrangements of the three songs lead to the inevitable\, this guy needs to be heard and discovered by more people. A fantastic tasteful player. Don’t  miss him.\n \nhttp://www.jimkimowest.com \nhttp://www.markleggett.com \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:JIM HURST
DESCRIPTION:“Jim Hurst is one of the most versatile and tasteful guitar players I know. Whether he’s flailing the rhythm for an old time fiddle tune\, laying down a funky groove\, or finger picking a beautiful ballad\, his playing is both impeccable and creative. Accompanying this instrumental virtuosity is a rich and expressive voice with a surprising range.” Mark Schatz \nJim Hurst’s unique picking style and mastery of bluegrass guitar wows audiences and is revered by both novice guitar players and his musical peers. His eclectic career has made him a remarkable performer\, an experienced instructor and a highly sought after session musician. His affability and gregariousness make him one of the most approachable musicians of his caliber. \nGarnering numerous nominations\, Jim received IBMA’s prestigious “Guitar Player of the Year” awards for 2001 and 2002. This award is voted on by IBMA members including his peers and contemporaries revealing their appreciation of Jim’s abilities. \nAfter recording and touring with several Country and Bluegrass artists\, Jim decided in 2010 to embark on a solo career to focus mostly on his own musical expression and art. As a musician\, vocalist\, songwriter\, arranger and producer\, Jim has recorded 7 CDs including: Open Window\, Second Son\, A Box of Chocolates\, Intrepid\, Looking Glass\, JHT-1\, and Atlantic Crossing. Jim’s virtuosity shines as he consistently sways audiences with his deft finger work and smooth vocals. \nJim performs his show full time and teaches at guitar workshops and music camps in North America and Europe. While he occasionally collaborates with other bluegrass greats\, his solo and Jim Hurst Trio performance are what keeps audiences mesmerized. \nhttps://www.jimhurst.com \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:MICHAEL CHAPDELAINE
DESCRIPTION:Michael Chapdelaine is the only guitarist ever to win First Prize in the world’s top competitions in both the Classical and Fingerstyle genres; the Guitar Foundation of America International Classical Guitar Competition and the National Fingerstyle Championships at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield \, Kansas. From New York’s Lincoln Center to the Cactus Cafe in Austin\, from Milano to Bangkok\, Michael continues to enchant\, dazzle and surprise audiences and critics alike as he redefines the modern acoustic guitar with his amazing technique\, “soulful” expressiveness\, and versatility as a performer\, composer and arranger/producer. His performances\, played on both steel string and classical guitars\, include musical styles ranging from blues to Bach to country to rhythm n’ blues as he wins his audiences hearts with breath taking technique and the poetic magic of his original musical portraits and landscapes. In the 80’s and 90’s Michael proved himself to be one of the world’s finest classical guitarists; twice winning the coveted National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalist Grant\, and taking First Prize in both the Guitar Foundation of America’s and the Music Teachers National Association’s Guitar Competitions. He also won the Silver Medal in Venezuela’s VIII Concurso International de Guitarra “Alirio Diaz”. He has toured four continents while giving hundreds of performances for Affiliate Artists Inc.\, and various arts promotion organizations. In 1992 he recorded the Sonata Romantica CD\, (now re-released as “Mexico”)\, which many critics and connoisseurs of classical guitar consider to be one of the definitive recordings for the instrument. Acoustic Guitar magazine wrote “… if I were marooned on a desert island with a limited selection of recordings\, this one would be among my choices…I have seldom heard a more beautiful album. Other young guitarists have excellent technique\, but few have such style and musicality\, and Chapdelaine’s beautiful tone is the nearest to Segovia’s that I can recall.” In 1994 Michael turned his attention to pop music\, in arranging\, producing and recording Time-Life Music’s beautiful Guitar by Moonlight collection (also released as “with love”)\, which sold 250\,000 copies in it’s first two years in the stores. In 1998\, he once again\, expanded his musical range and gained instant notoriety and credibility in the “acoustic music” world as a “fingerstyle” guitarist and composer\, by winning the National Fingerpicking Championships at Winfield. Michael is Professor of Music and head of guitar studies at the University of New Mexico\, and has previously been on the faculties of the University of Colorado at Denver and Metropolitan State University. He has given master classes throughout the world including\, China\, Thailand\, Malaysia\, Peru\, Venezuela\, Taiwan\, Indonesia and at institutions such as\, University of Miami\, Mannes School of Music\, University of Texas\, and California State University. His teachers included the great Spanish maestro Andres Segovia. \nhttp://www.michaelchapdelaine.com \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:BERNIE PEARL & MIKE BARRY
DESCRIPTION:The blues is life itself to Bernie Pearl. A guitarist with an upbeat\, finger-poppin’ picking style he learned at the elbows of bluesmasters Sam ‘Lightnin’ Hopkins\, Mance Lipscomb\, Mississippi Fred MacDowell\, and others. Yet\, Bernie Pearl is no hidebound traditionalist. As music critics and aficionados have said for years\, he is a craftsman who packs his songs with melodic interpretations that are new and personal each time he picks up his vintage Martin or National. To hear him tell it\, “I’m not a retro player. I’m playing real blues for right now.” \nBernie\, who grew up in the Los Angeles community of Boyle Heights\, took up the guitar in the 1950’s. Later\, at his brother’s legendary blues showcase\, the Ash Grove\, he met\, studied with\, and often performed with greats like Hopkins\, Lipscomb\, and MacDowell as well as with Freddie King\, Albert Collins\, and Big Mama Thornton. Bernie played duets with John Lee Hooker at Gerde’s Folk City in Greenwich Village. “They were my teachers\,” he says\, “and it wasn’t just music they were teaching. If you took Mance or Lightnin’ out fishing you got philosophy\, history\, and lessons in life”. \nArmed with the teachings of those and other blues icons\, Bernie raises the roof with dazzling guitar solos – acoustic and electric – and with his own Bernie Pearl Blues Band\, which has backed the likes of B.B. King\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Willie Dixon\, and Big Joe Turner. The Bernie Pearl Blues Band has been a popular draw at many of Southern California’s best-known musical haunts: the House of Blues\, California Plaza Presents\, the Blue Café\, Disney’s California Adventure\, and the Playboy Pasadena Community Jazz Festival. Bernie has appeared at major Festivals in Chicago\, The Poconos\, Vancouver\, Portland\, and Long Beach\, as well as in Europe. \nA life-long blues evangelist\, Bernie began broadcasting Nothin’ But the Blues on KPPC FM in 1968\, making him L.A.’s first all-blues FM disc jockey. He went on to host the blues on KLON and KCRW from 1980-92\, helping found the Long Beach Blues Festival along the way. \nHis 15-year relationship with Louisiana blues man Harmonica Fats produced three outstanding CDs\, with the unplugged Two Heads Are Better and Blow\, Fat Daddy\, Blow\, each garnering W.C. Handy nominations in the mid-1990’s. Tonight Pearl shares the stage with bassist/producer Mike Barry who is a perfect match to set the groove for the tunes they perform. \nBernie applied his studio skills as a producer and songwriter-arranger of jazz-rocking violin pioneer Papa John Creach’s critically-acclaimed 1992 Papa Blues CD (Bee Bump BBCD 03). \nAs president of Big Time Blues Productions\, Pearl was named national “Blues Promoter of the Year” by the Blues Foundation in 1987\, and he continues to book\, promote\, advertise\, and oversee blues acts at annual events such as the Big Time Blues Festival and the Blues Harmonica Blowdown. He has taught blues history and blues guitar courses at several area universities\, and continues to teach at Cal State Long Beach\, as well as privately. \nHis first solo CD\, released in August 2002\, was recorded in an all-acoustic concert at Culver City’s Boulevard Music and is appropriately titled Bernie Pearl Live From Boulevard Music (Major Label ML 011-CD). \nFor music lovers tired of market-tested commercial radio and industry-buffed overnight phenoms\, Pearl provides virtuosity\, country wisdom\, a warm voice\, and the kind of fingerpicking and slide guitar work that still gets juke-joints jumping. \n“…Pearl’s music and voice evoke the unpretentious\, truth-telling qualities of the blues. The sparse arrangements that grace this 15-song set only heighten the soulful and spiritual nature of the music. Pearl’s guitar virtuosity is evident\, whether he’s playing lead\, rhythm\, or slide guitar…his version of (Son House’s) Shetland Pony Blues would make the old master proud” \nStephen A. King\, Living Blues Magazine \n“Making blues music draws from someplace deep\,” he says. “I’m lucky. It’s what I do.” \nhttp://www.berniepearl.com

SUMMARY:THE SUSIE GLAZE NEW FOLK ENSEMBLE + RICK SHEA
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning vocalist Susie Glaze\, mandolinist Steve Rankin\, fiddler Mark Indictor and bassist Fred Sanders are The Susie Glaze New Folk Ensemble\, the newest version of the acclaimed Los Angeles-based Americana group\, a lush new folk Americana fusion ensemble\, presenting gorgeous eclectic blends of mountain folk and exciting new grassy and Celtic-inspired originals\, all with the remarkable voice of Susie Glaze. The group has been likened to the classic British bands Pentangle and Fairport Convention in that they blend classic folk music with rough-edged stories of tragedy and fate\, all with orchestral arrangements sounding like chamber music gone folk! The band has appeared at many premier venues and festivals on the West Coast\, including Berkeley’s Freight & Salvage\, The Broad Stage\, and the Hollywood Bowl\, among others. Their CD “White Swan” was released in March of 2013 to critical acclaim from No Depression\, and FolkWorks\, among others\, and charted in the Top 50 on the Roots Music Report’s Combined Internet and Terrestrial Folk Chart. Their new album “Not That Kind of Girl” produced by Herb Pedersen was released in June 2015 and is enjoying critical acclaim and radio airplay around the country. “If there were a word to describe this fine band\, it would be sophisticated. They draw influences from disparate sources to meld their sound. The level of musicianship is exemplary.… display a great range of prowess and work as a tight unit.” Bluegrass Unlimited. “…one of the finest and most original Americana groups in California (or in the country for that matter).” No Depression. Augmenting their sound is the lush\, Celtic sounds of Rankin’s bouzouki\, the mountain sounds of Susie’s Appalachian dulcimer and traditional autoharp\, with Mark Indictor’s virtuoso fiddling and Fred Sanders’ remarkable bass work rounding out the orchestral nature of this amazing quartet. \nSusie Glaze has been honored to be included on the newly-released Compass Records tribute album “Dear Jean – Artists Celebrate Jean Ritchie” alongside such artists as Judy Collins\, Pete Seeger\, Janis Ian\, Tim O’Brien\, John McCutcheon\, Robin and Linda Williams and many more. \n“The band is tight\, great picking\, and beautiful vocals and harmony.” KVMR\, Nevada City\, CA \n“One of the most beautiful voices in bluegrass and folk music today.” KPFK’s FolkScene\n“…with people like this to trust\, my music will go on living\, and soaring. And so will I.” Jean Ritchie \nPlus on the same bill one of Americana’s finest singer/songwriters\, Rick Shea. \nPhoto by Rick Seyffert \nRick Shea cut his teeth in the bars and honky-tonks of San Bernardino where he grew up. He’s since gone on to build a solid career for himself as a solo artist\, singer\, guitarist and songwriter. Shea is equally at home with an acoustic guitar and a set of ballads and stories\, or with his worn old Telecaster burning through a set of his own songs and a few honky-tonk standards. With nine critically acclaimed albums he’s performed all over Southern California\, the West Coast and across the country. \nHis songs reflect the folk\, country\, rock and Mexican influences he grew up with. As a songwriter Shea lets the songs find their own settings. “Starting out you might be hearing a song one way and then when its done realize it’s about something else altogether.” And on his songwriting influences Shea says\, “When I was younger Merle Haggard cast a long shadow\, but since then Dave Alvin\, Jim Ringer and a lot of other music has found its way in.” \nRick’s latest album Sweet Bernardine\, his ninth\, is a collection of his own stories and stories of California and beyond. From the train journey he took as a brokenhearted young man in “Mexicali Train” to the harrowing tale of his great grandfather’s time in Civil war prisoner camps in “John Shea from Kenmare”\, Shea’s songs resonate deeply. \nRecently Rick has toured Texas\, New England\, Ireland\, the U.K. and Hawaii. “Playing live shows is what I’ve always done\, from the bars\, honky-tonks and coffeehouses I started in to the shows I do now. It’s a chance for me to meet people and see them connect with the songs\, that’s really what it’s all about.” \n“If your tastes run toward hard working\, literate\, back 40 folkies like Tom Russell\, Chuck Pyle\, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and others like that\, Shea is sure to be another that you’re going to dig. With a very personal edge to his writing and singing\, this is classic folkie/troubadour stuff that cuts right to the chase and delivers moves that others can only turn into clichés. Check it out\, it’s the real deal”. – Chris Spector MIDWEST RECORD \n“a hauntingly nostalgic vocalist\, imperative guitarist and literate\, detail-rich songwriter\, do yourself a favor”. \n– Gary von Tersch\, Sing Out \nhttps://www.susieglaze.com/ \nhttps://www.rickshea.com \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:ADRIAN LEGG
DESCRIPTION:Globally acclaimed by critics and fans alike for his unique acoustic and electric fingerstyle guitar playing\, Adrian Legg masterfully blends diverse musical styles\, influences and inspirations to create a distinctive sound all his own. With multiple awards and accolades spanning four decades\, Legg has been heralded as a “guitarist of astonishing virtuosity\, (whose) imagination and melodic invention seem unbounded\,” (Q magazine); “ridiculously talented\,” (Music Week) and “simply the best acoustic guitar player I’ve ever heard.”(guitar icon Joe Satriani). Setting the stage for his international success in the decades to follow\, Legg was named as Acoustic Guitarist of the Decade by the UK’s Guitarist Magazine(1984-94)\, and Best Acoustic Fingerstylist in Guitar Player Magazine’s Readers’ Poll for four years in a row. (1993-96). \nBut there’s even more to Adrian Legg’s draw as an engaging\, one-of-a-kind performer. Described by Audio Magazine as a “kind of cross between Robert Fripp and Garrison Keillor\,” Legg is more fully characterized as a “genuine entertainer who excels at not only painting pictures\, if not frescoes\, and telling stories with music— but also wittily regaling his audiences with tales from his life and travels and his cogent and often oblique yet thought-provoking observations on a spectrum of topics. It’s all part of his dedication to making his performances a full- blooded emotional experience.” \nWith his 1990 American recording debut of Guitars & Other Cathedrals\, Legg found even greater success across the pond as a regularly touring solo act\, headlining and sharing bills with fellow guitarists Richard Thompson\, David Lindley\, Eric Johnson\, (whose 2005 album\, Bloom\, Legg plays on)\, and Joe Satriani\, on both his own shows and as part of his G3 Tour package with Johnson and Steve Vai\, whose Favored Nations record label released two of Legg’s albums. \nGuitar Player named his records\, Guitar for Mortals and Mrs. Crowe’s Blue Waltz as Best Acoustic Album (1992 & ’93) and Wine\,Women & Waltz as Best Overall Guitar Album (1994) in its annual readers’ polls. \nThrough the decades\, Legg has continued to delight audiences with his touring on both sides of the Atlantic. His most recently released latest double live CD\, (Adrian Legg Live\, October 2017) includes many of his enduring\, best-loved hits with the entertaining stories behind these songs artfully woven in. \nOver his career\, Legg has released a dozen or more recordings of his original compositions\, which are consistently described as “thrilling\, engaging\, emotionally compelling and evocative.” Legg encapsulates his own music by saying\,“I’m a collision between European classicism and the American guitar.” \nLoyal fans around the globe enthusiastically appreciate Legg’s witty\, entertaining stories\, often shared in between songs onstage and on his live albums. As noted by popular BBC radio personality Andy Kershaw\, “Quite simply\, there is no one else like him\,” citing Legg’s “dazzling technique and equally large dollops of spirit\, humor\, passion\, eclecticism and spontaneity.” \nFor Legg\, the essence of his creativity is in live performance.“Playing live is the whole point\,” he stresses.“Everyone makes a journey\, an effort; we all come together — me\, the audience\,the people who run the venue — to share this wonderful\, universal\, human emotional interaction. This is where music lives; it has a huge social value which I think is very important.” \nWhen it comes to musical technique\, Legg plays fingerstyle guitar\, mixing an alternating-bass style with harmonics\, banjo-peg retuning and single or double string bending. Often\, he plays a piece entirely in arpeggios (similar to a classical guitar style) and extensively uses altered tunings and capos to create his signature sound. \nIn addition to his well-honed gifts as a performer\, Legg is an innovator in guitar design and amplification technology\, an instructor\, photographer\, writer\, author\, and an at-large commentator for National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” which still regularly uses many of his varied guitar interpretations of its theme music. So it’s no wonder that What’s Up magazine hails London-born Legg as “the greatest British import since Newcastle Brown Ale.” \nhttps://adrianlegg.com/ \n$20.00Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:MAIRE NI CHATHASAIGH & CHRIS NEWMAN
DESCRIPTION:“This celebrated duo took the place by storm. Stately Carolan tunes\, jazzy Django-ish numbers\, dazzling Doc Watson style flat picking fliers\, driving Irish dance tunes – this pair can nonchalantly do the lot. Guitar players applauded and went sadly home to burn their instruments!” The Belfast Telegraph. The virtuoso partnership of England’s premier flatpicking guitarist and “the greatest Celtic harper of our age” (LIVE IRELAND) has by now brought its unique musical vision to twenty-two countries on five continents.Chris and Máire have performed at over 175 folk\, Celtic\, arts\, harp and guitar festivals in Europe\, the USA and Australasia and have given almost two thousand concerts in venues large and small – from the tiniest of historic churches in England\, Germany and Italy to palaces in Kyoto and Istanbul\, London’s Barbican\, Sydney’s Town Hall and the Philharmonie in Cologne. Together they have created one of the most distinctive voices in modern acoustic music. Their six duo and five solo CDs\, instructional books and collaborations with many other luminaries of the Celtic\, folk\, swing jazz and bluegrass worlds express both the depth of their commitment to tradition and an eternally playful\, curious and adventurous spirit.Over the years Chris and Máire have toured with Altan\, Sharon Shannon\, Cherish the Ladies\, Patrick Street\, the Rankins\, Mary Black\, Maura O’Connell\, Dónal Lunny\, Aly Bain\, Boys of the Lough and many other leading bands and artists. \nChris is a “brilliant English master of the acoustic guitar” (THE DAILY TELEGRAPH)\, a “dazzling player” (ACOUSTIC GUITAR\, USA) whose work is “nothing short of brilliant” (DIRTY LINEN\, USA). He began to play guitar at the age of four and at fourteen played his first paid gig in a folk club. A prolific composer\, arranger and record producer\, he’s played with luminaries of many musical worlds: folk (Boys of the Lough\, Kathryn Tickell\, Aly Bain\, Danny Thompson\, Arty McGlynn\, Nollaig Casey – and Máire)\, jazz (Stéphane Grappelli and Diz Disley) and comedy (Fred Wedlock) – receiving a silver disc for producing Fred’s international hit Oldest Swinger in Town\, to which he also composed the tune and which reached No 2 in the charts in the UK and No 1 in several other countries. Maire Ni Chathasaigh is one of Ireland’s most influential traditional musicians\, described by the late Derek Bell of the Chieftains as “the most interesting and original player of the Irish harp today” and as “the greatest Celtic harper of our age” by Live Ireland. She has played harp since the age of eleven. As a 1970s West Cork teenager steeped in the oral tradition she developed new techniques that made it possible for the first time to play traditional music on the harp in a stylistically accurate way. These soon became the norm amongst both her contemporaries and the younger generation of Irish players. In 2001 she received Irish music’s most prestigious award\, that of Traditional Musician of the Year – Gradam Cheoil TG4 – “for the excellence and pioneering force of her music\, the remarkable growth she has brought to the music of the harp and the positive influence she has had on the young generation of harpers”. She won the All-Ireland and Pan-Celtic Harp Competitions several times and in 1985 recorded the first harp album ever to concentrate on traditional Irish dance music\, The New-Strung Harp- “an intensely passionate and intelligent record and a milestone in Irish harp music” THE IRISH EXAMINER. Her approach has been profoundly influential – “a single-handed reinvention of the harp”. Máire has performed for a number of dignitaries\, among them Pope John Paul II and the King and Queen of Spain. \nhttps://www.maireandchris.com/ \n$17.50Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:EDGAR LOUDERMILK BAND\, FEATURING JEFF AUTRY
DESCRIPTION:Rural Rhythm Records recording artist Edgar Loudermilk’s signature voice\, bass skills\, and songwriting are a family tradition for this Louvin Brothers’ descendant. Loudermilk’s distinctive and powerful vocals cut to the heart of a song\, while also winning over audiences with his friendly\, down-home style. Having experienced a long tenure of performing\, including several industry awards\, with IIIrd Tyme Out\, Rhonda Vincent\, and Marty Raybon\, Edgar has also had monumental success with the IBMA Emerging Artist nomination for his duo work with Adkins & Loudermilk. Edgar wrote or co-wrote the majority of the music that topped and still remains on the bluegrass charts from the Adkins & Loudermilk album release. Edgar’s music is a mainstay on bluegrass radio and he has been a “Most Played” Sirius Bluegrass Radio Musician since his start. \nIn addition to touring and performing\, Edgar Loudermilk has had great success as a songwriter\, with over 50 self-penned songs\, many of which have been recorded by others. To quote Edgar\, “I see songwriting as much of a calling as singing. Songwriting is a big part of it for me. Playing and singing is great fun and a good time\, and we love the audiences\, but the art of crafting words and music into a song is very rewarding.” \nIn 2017\, Edgar’s self-penned song\, “Can’t Live Life\,” was recorded by Rhonda Vincent & Daryle Singletary as part of their “American Grandstand” album–that album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart\, and in July of 2017\, it was on Billboard’s Top 10 of Top Current Country Albums\, as well as No.1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Album Chart for the week of July 29\, 2017. The album went on to be #1 on Splice Today’s Top 10 Country Albums of 2017. \nIn 2015 Edgar stepped out forming his own band with the highly acclaimed guitarist\, Jeff Autry. The Edgar Loudermilk Band\, featuring Jeff Autry released the well-received “Georgia Maple” album in 2016\, garnering significant airplay. In 2018 the band released a single\, “It’s a Way of Life That Stands the Test of Time\,” debuting in the Top 20 of the Bluegrass Today Airplay charts. Penned by Loudermilk and Wayne Benson\, the 2018 release received fantastic audience response during the band’s live performances on their coast-to-coast tours. \nThe Edgar Loudermilk Band\, featuring Jeff Autry\, emphasizes the core vocal trio of the band\, Edgar Loudermilk\, Jeff Autry\, and Zack Autry. Each of the three shares the spotlight as lead vocalist\, in addition to all three shining on harmony vocals. In addition\, Jeff Autry and Zack Autry are both accomplished songwriters\, bringing not only tightly constructed and intricate instrumentals\, but also lyrical delights. \nWhile the band’s vocal arrangements meld together like a tightly woven tapestry\, the musicianship in this band is spot on every performance. Guitarist Jeff Autry’s stellar innovation comes as no surprise. Jeff Autry toured 14 years internationally with the John Cowan Band. In addition\, he’s performed and toured with Sam Bush\, Bela Fleck\, Tim O’Brien\, Peter Rowan\, the Bluegrass Cardinals\, the Lynn Morris Band\, Yonder Mountain String Band\, and the Travelin’ McCourys. Jeff Autry’s solo album\, “Foothills\,” saw great success in its original release and has since been re-released in 2017\, with several cuts becoming crowd favorites at the band’s live performances. \nOn mandolin is the highly accomplished Zack Autry\, son of Jeff Autry. While the instrument may be different than what his father plays\, Zack’s attention to detail and precision is evidence that “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” Zack picked up the mandolin when he was 8 years old and has since been lighting up stages with his musicianship. \nDelivering the drive on banjo is the very talented and musically diverse\, Curtis “Bum” Bumgarner\, who recently joined the band’s live shows and cross country tour. Bumgarner’s banjo style easily adapts from hard-driving traditional bluegrass to the swing tunes the band showcases in their live performances. Curtis has quickly become a crowd favorite. \nRounding out the group on resonator guitar is young Dylan Amour. Dylan\, a recent addition in 2018\, completes the blend for a perfect mix that is synonymous for the Rural Rhythm Records band Edgar Loudermilk Band\, featuring Jeff Autry.\n \nPresented in conjunction with the Bluegrass Standard Magazine. \nhttps://www.edgarloudermilk.com \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:CLIVE CARROLL
DESCRIPTION:British guitarist Clive Carroll has a deep knowledge of music history\, arranges\, composes\, can lay down a blues with the best of them\, and is a captivating performer. He has toured extensively as a solo artist\, performed with the late John Renbourn and International Guitar Night\, has taught workshops including weeklong courses at Swannanoa Gathering\, and has released four CDs and a concert DVD. A chance meeting with the late John Renbourn changed the course of Clive’s musical career and the two toured the U.K. and North America together\, with Renbourn encouraging Clive to the U.K. and North America together\, with Renbourn encouraging Clive to release his first solo album in 2000. Since then Clive has gone from strength to strength\, touring solo around the world and alongside lauded guitarist Tommy Emmanuel. Tommy Emmanuel recently said “Clive Carroll is one of my favorite guitarists. He’s touring the US this March. Trust me go see him!” Clive has also composed music for major films and has been awarded an array of awards and accolades\, such as inclusion in Total Guitar Magazine’s “Top 10 Acoustic Guitarists of All Time”. His latest recording\, The Furthest Tree\, is a wide ranging and innovative program of mostly solo steel-string guitar and is an absolute gem. The album begins with a tribute to Clive’s mentor\, John Renbourn\, who passed away last year. Entitled The Abbot’s Hymn (Renbourn was known as ‘The Abbot’ because of his fondness for an East Anglian ale of the same name)\, it’s a wonderful introduction to an album chock full of superb playing and outstanding compositions. Take\, for instance\, A Renaissance Suite\, an eight-minute classically influenced duet with special guest\, John Williams. These are the reasons guitar phenomenon Clive Carroll’s masterful compositions\, coupled with his versatility and unparalleled technical virtuosity\, have rendered him one of today’s most admired and respected guitarists. \nhttp://www.clivecarroll.co.uk \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:RADIM ZENKL plus EVAN MARSHALL
DESCRIPTION:We welcome with open arms our friend and artist adored by many\, the US National Mandolin Champion Radim Zenkl. We were recently saddened to find out Radim recently was one of the many victims in the Paradise\, CA Camp Fire losing his house and many of his instruments. Please join us tonight welcoming him back to Boulevard Music and continuing his lifelong journey bringing joy and enlightenment to the masses he has performed for over the years.  Tonight he will perform on an assortment of different instruments from mandolin\, mandola to Irish bouzouki\, ukulele\, ethnic flutes\, and didgeridoo. Original music crossing the tracks of folk\, string jazz\, new age\, bluegrass\, flamenco\, gypsy\, Irish\, and classical music\, combined with Czech and eastern European traditional songs and instrumentals. Radim has extended the technical possibilities of the mandolin by\ninventing a masterful technique\, the “Zenkl style\,” in which a single mandolin sounds like two. \n“Radim has reinvented the mandolin in several different ways.”\n– David Grisman \n“Imaginative and great.”\n– Jerry Garcia \nPlus on the same bill Evan J. Marshall who is an internationally renowned mandolin virtuoso\, and is widely regarded as the world’s premier solo performer on mandolinin Duo-Style. By himself\, he sounds like several of the world’s finest mandolinists performing together. His stylistic signature is Classical\, with strong influences from the Italian and American Folk traditions. Country guitar legend Chet Atkins called Evan “A true virtuoso\, one of the few great musicians of our time.” \nInspired by Atkins and violinist Jascha Heifetz\, Evan has created a uniquely recognizable approach to solo mandolin performance that combines bass lines\, chords\, rhapsodic runs and tremolo melodies. He started Classical violin studies at age seven\, and added the mandolin at age 14. \nIn addition to solo performances\, Evan has been a Featured Guest Artist in Pops concerts with a number of Symphony Orchestras\, including Houston\, Phoenix\, Long Beach\, Grand Rapids\, Fort Worth\, San Antonio\, Jacksonville\, and Pensacola. \nTwo of his solo mandolin recordings have been released by Rounder Records: \nEvan Marshall Is the Lone Arranger\, which the Washington Post labeled “Truly dazzling\,” the Raleigh-Durham Independent called “Superhuman\,” and the Fresno Bee called “Mind-boggling”; \nMandolin Magic\, which the St. Paul Pioneer Press applauded for a “Stunning mastery of interpretation.” \nEvan also has recorded four solo CDs for his own label\, Mandolin Conservatory. \nIn 1995 Evan made his first appearance on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. Between 1993 and 2005 Evan was a Featured Soloist at Disneyland\, performing his signature William Tell Overture: Finale for about two million visitors to the famous Golden Horseshoe Theater during the course of 10\,000 shows. He has performed and taught at numerous regional and international conferences for mandolinists\, who hold Evan in particularly high regard; Don Stiernberg has referred to Evan as “The Michael Jordan of the mandolin.”\nRadim and Evan will both play solo sets and then as a duo. They have met for the first time in 1990 and performed together a number of concerts that year on the West Coast. This is their ‘reunion’ after almost 29 years! \nhttp://www.zenkl.com \nVideo samples:\nSolo Mandola \nhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiJunO9WeHU \nWhistle (RZ trio) \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMkqJK_S1lQ \nhttps://www.evanjmarshall.com \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:ADAM MILLER
DESCRIPTION:Approaching his guitar as if each of its six strings were a separate instrument\, fingerstyle guitarist Adam Miller is a groove machine\, creating a sound that invites comparisons to Tuck Andress and Charile Hunter’ – Acoustic Guitar Magazine.  It’s this talent that has seen him play with Les Paul\, Tommy Emmanuel\, Martin Taylor\, Matt Schofield\, Charlie Hunter\, Bruce Mathiske\, Adam Levy (Norah Jones)\, Joe Robinson\, Tony McManus\, Jim Black\, Ben Gillies (Silverchair)\, and the list continues…. \nMiller’s 5th studio album\, ‘Shifting Units’ is a huge offering of original compositions played on both acoustic and electric guitars\, presented in two halves\, ‘Shifting Units – With Friends’ and ‘Shifting Units – Solo’. ‘Shifting Units’ features the same original compositions essentially recorded twice. \nThe solo album features Miller playing solo on both acoustic and electric guitar with no overdubs\, with only some creative loop and delay use on the haunting ‘Prayer For Bel’. The other half of the album features Miller with his ‘friends’\, ensembles made up of Australia’s cream of the the crop jazz and blues musicians. \nShifting Units’ will be a sonic adventure of sorts for listeners new to discovering Miller. “A lot of the time I play live with a band\, especially in Australia\, in a way the idea behind ‘Shifting Units’ was to complete the picture of how I compose and perform music” says Miller who is predominantly recognised as a solo acoustic artist. Drawing upon jazz\, blues\, finger-style and country\, Miller’s incredible and versatile talent as a player\, composer and arranger is clearly cemented on the album. \nAustralian Fingerstyle Champion (2002)\, Miller has played an array of International & National festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival\, Australian Blues Festival\, A Day On The Green\, Jazz In The Vines\, and the Woodstock\, Melbourne\, and Adelaide International Guitar Festivals. He is a regular artist at NAMM (Los Angeles & Nashville) and Musikmesse (Germany) shows where he plays for some of the world’s most respected guitar companies and luthiers. He has also done two tours to Afghanistan performing for the Australian & Allied Forces. \nMiller has featured in magazines such as Guitar Player\, Acoustic Guitar\, Premier Guitar\, Acoustic UK\, Australian Guitar\, and Australian Musician. In 2013 his album “Delayed” was named in the top 10 Albums of 2012 by the US Acoustic Guitar Magazine.  He was also named on of the top 25 Future Legends in Australian Guitar Magazine. In 2010 Miller was named “Guitarist Deserving Wider Recognition” by US based magazine\, Guitar International. \nAdam juggles his time between international travels & Australia where he lectures in Jazz and Contemporary Guitar at the University Of Newcastle. \nhttp://www.adammiller.com.au \n$15.00Read more

SUMMARY:BATDORF & STANLEY-ALL WOOD & STONES
DESCRIPTION:Batdorf & Stanley have had two monumental releases of acoustic versions of songs by the Rolling Stones\, “All Wood and Stones Part 1 and Part 2”. If you haven’t heard either of these two recordings and are a fan of Crosby Stills & Nash\, Buffalo Springfield\, Rubber Soul\, the Eagles\, or classic Beach Boys harmonies you are in for a real treat. \nCan you imagine what the Rolling Stones songs would have sounded like if Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were California boys with acoustic guitars? Would Satisfaction\, Ruby Tuesday\, or Last Time have been as powerful if they had been played on acoustic guitars and filled with vocal harmonies? \nJames Lee Stanley and John Batdorf\, purveyors of acoustic rock music for decades took 21 Rolling Stones classics and turned them into something totally unheard of. You don’t have to live in California or play acoustic guitar to be enchanted by “All Wood and Stones” … an amazing collection of Rolling Stones tunes played on acoustic guitars and brimming with joyous vocal harmonies. \nJames Lee Stanley with his first-rate guitar playing\, exceptional voice & quality songwriting has lead to 13 solo albums. His grammy nominated LIVE album was chosen as one of the TOP 5 RECORDS OF THE YEAR by Music Connection. A funny guy & great story teller. \nJAMES LEE STANLEY\, the true renaissance man\, was born into a musical family in Philadelphia\, PA\, and already performing and recording for LeGrand Records by the time he was fourteen. He majored in music at California State University\, did a stint in the Air Force as a chinese linguist\, performing three hundred dates a year with such diverse acts as BONNIE RAITT\, ROBIN WILLIAMS\, and CHICK COREA & RETURN TO FOREVER by the time he landed his second recording contract. \nIt is only a long lived singer-songwriter career that lets JAMES LEE STANLEY unite the unpredictable creativity and the eclectic elements that make up his world. His remarkable ability as a vocalist and composer allow him to create songs\, each recorded with a finely crafted backing that sonically enhance the impulse behind the lyric\, coupled with his outragously hilarious repartee. He is one of the few all time greats and undisputed geniuses among singer-songwriters. Fi Magazine listed his FREELANCE HUMAN BEING as “one of the finest recordings of 1998 and one of the Top 200 Recordings of all time.” – FI Magazine March 1999. \nJohn Batdorf started as a recording artist in the 1970s with the duo Batdorf and Rodney. Batdorf and Rodney may be the only band ever signed by Ahmet Ertegun to Atlantic Records\, AND by David Geffen to Asylum Records \, AND by Clive Davis to Arista Records\, all resulting in major label releases! They toured for five years with groups like America\, Bread\, The Youngbloods\, Loggins and Messina\, Three Dog Night\, Dan Fogelberg\, Chicago\, and Seals & Crofts. John then formed the band Silver\, best known for their 1976 hit “Wham Bam.” Again John got to tour with bands like Fleetwood Mac\, Linda Ronstadt\, Jackson Browne\, Pure Prarie League and The Doobie Brothers. \nJohn spent the 1980s as a staff songwriter writing songs for America\, England Dan\, The Curry sisters and Kim Carnes\, and as studio singer singing on hundreds of jingles\, movies\, and TV shows. He sang on four main titles including\, “Doctor\, Doctor\,” “Tom and Jerry Kids\,” “Garfield and Friends” and “Promised Land.” He also sang background vocals on some great recordings by Rod Stewart\, Motley Crue\, Dave Mason\, Eric Anderson\,The Jefferson Starship\, Berlin\, Donna Summer\, Dwight Yoakum\, Boy Meets Girl\, Mickey Thomas\, Stan Ridgeway\, James Lee Stanley\, David Lee Roth\, The London Choir Boys\, to name just a few. \nhttp://www.jamesleestanley.com \nhttp://www.johnbatdorfmusic.com \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:GRAMMY AWARD WINNING GUITARIST ED GERHARD
DESCRIPTION:Performing on 6-string\, 12-string\, slide guitar or Acoustic Hawaiian Lap Slide\, Gerhard captivates his audiences with virtuosity\, generosity and sly humor. Known for his gorgeous tone and compositional depth\, Gerhard can move a listener with a single note. Scott Alalrik of the Boston Globe said it best when he wrote ‘Gerhard does not write instrumentals. He writes songs only a guitar can sing. \nGerhard’s relationship with the guitar began at age 10\, when he happened upon classical guitar master Andrés Segovia on TV. “I’d heard all the pop music on the radio and maybe a little of that 60’s folk stuff\, but this was the first time I’d ever heard the guitar all by itself and the sound just instantly got me\,” he remembers. Ed finally got his first guitar at 14. His initial interest in classical guitar changed dramatically when he heard the music of bluesman Mississippi John Hurt. He quit lessons after the third one. He took some informal lessons with friends and learned by ear\, slowing down LPs to half-speed to pick out the tricky parts. At fifteen\, Ed was already beginning to perform in local church basement coffeehouses\, playing solo and jamming with friends. \nIn 1977 Gerhard moved to New Hampshire where he has resided ever since. Joining a thriving folk and acoustic music scene proved invaluable for the young guitarist. “There seemed to be no limitation on places to play back then\, or more importantly\, what you could play” says Ed. “You could play anything you wanted as long as people stayed around and drank.” When Gerhard was not performing solo he could often be seen sitting in with other musicians. “I loved to play\, it didn’t matter if I was solo or sideman.” During this period Ed began composing and arranging music for solo guitar\, using a staggering array of alternative guitar tunings. \nBased truly on the quality of his work\, Ed built his considerable reputation\, beginning with his debut album “Night Birds” in 1987. It garnered a spot in the Boston Globe Critics Poll Top 10 Albums of the Year.” Shortly after the album’s release\, Windham Hill Records included Ed on its Guitar Sampler (Vol.1). One of the highlights of the three hundred thousand unit selling Sampler\, “The Handing Down” introduced the world to the beauty of Ed Gerhard’s music. “That one piece made me a lot of friends around the world\,” Ed says. \nEd has released his ninth CD “There and Gone.” He was awarded a GRAMMY® for his inclusion on the CD “Henry Mancini; Pink Guitar.” Warner Brothers\, MelBay and Hal Leonard have all released Ed Gerhard’s music in books. His guitar work can be heard on recordings by Arlo Guthrie\, Jorma Kaukonen\, Bill Morrissey and in the Ken Burns films “Mark Twain” and “ The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” \nEd’s CD “Luna” is featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s 20th Anniversary list of the “240 Essential Albums.” “This soulful album of original compositions rich in melody\, chordal complexity and stylistic variety proves why Gerhard is considered to have the most exquisite acoustic guitar tone on the planet.” -Acoustic Guitar Magazine \nAlong with players like Ben Harper and David Lindley\, Gerhard’s unique approach to the Weissenborn (an acoustic Hawaiian lap slide guitar) is playing a significant role in reinvigorating interest in this somewhat esoteric but beautiful instrument. Ed’s style of Weissenborn playing is unique in that he composes and arranges music for solo Weissenborn with beautiful melodies\, complex chords and moving basslines\, unusual for an instrument that normally serves an accompaniment role. Ed is featured in the book “Lap Steel Guitar” alongside legendary players like Greg Leisz\, David Lindley\, Jerry Byrd and more. \nhttp://www.virtuerecords.com \n$20.00Read more
