SUMMARY:ADAM MILLER
DESCRIPTION:Approaching his guitar as if each of its six strings were a separate instrument\, fingerstyle guitarist Adam Miller is a groove machine\, creating a sound that invites comparisons to Tuck Andress and Charile Hunter’ – Acoustic Guitar Magazine.  It’s this talent that has seen him play with Les Paul\, Tommy Emmanuel\, Martin Taylor\, Matt Schofield\, Charlie Hunter\, Bruce Mathiske\, Adam Levy (Norah Jones)\, Joe Robinson\, Tony McManus\, Jim Black\, Ben Gillies (Silverchair)\, and the list continues…. \nMiller’s 5th studio album\, ‘Shifting Units’ is a huge offering of original compositions played on both acoustic and electric guitars\, presented in two halves\, ‘Shifting Units – With Friends’ and ‘Shifting Units – Solo’. ‘Shifting Units’ features the same original compositions essentially recorded twice. \nThe solo album features Miller playing solo on both acoustic and electric guitar with no overdubs\, with only some creative loop and delay use on the haunting ‘Prayer For Bel’. The other half of the album features Miller with his ‘friends’\, ensembles made up of Australia’s cream of the the crop jazz and blues musicians. \nShifting Units’ will be a sonic adventure of sorts for listeners new to discovering Miller. “A lot of the time I play live with a band\, especially in Australia\, in a way the idea behind ‘Shifting Units’ was to complete the picture of how I compose and perform music” says Miller who is predominantly recognised as a solo acoustic artist. Drawing upon jazz\, blues\, finger-style and country\, Miller’s incredible and versatile talent as a player\, composer and arranger is clearly cemented on the album. \nAustralian Fingerstyle Champion (2002)\, Miller has played an array of International & National festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival\, Australian Blues Festival\, A Day On The Green\, Jazz In The Vines\, and the Woodstock\, Melbourne\, and Adelaide International Guitar Festivals. He is a regular artist at NAMM (Los Angeles & Nashville) and Musikmesse (Germany) shows where he plays for some of the world’s most respected guitar companies and luthiers. He has also done two tours to Afghanistan performing for the Australian & Allied Forces. \nMiller has featured in magazines such as Guitar Player\, Acoustic Guitar\, Premier Guitar\, Acoustic UK\, Australian Guitar\, and Australian Musician. In 2013 his album “Delayed” was named in the top 10 Albums of 2012 by the US Acoustic Guitar Magazine.  He was also named on of the top 25 Future Legends in Australian Guitar Magazine. In 2010 Miller was named “Guitarist Deserving Wider Recognition” by US based magazine\, Guitar International. \nAdam juggles his time between international travels & Australia where he lectures in Jazz and Contemporary Guitar at the University Of Newcastle. \nhttp://www.adammiller.com.au \n$15.00Read more

SUMMARY:BATDORF & STANLEY-ALL WOOD & STONES
DESCRIPTION:Batdorf & Stanley have had two monumental releases of acoustic versions of songs by the Rolling Stones\, “All Wood and Stones Part 1 and Part 2”. If you haven’t heard either of these two recordings and are a fan of Crosby Stills & Nash\, Buffalo Springfield\, Rubber Soul\, the Eagles\, or classic Beach Boys harmonies you are in for a real treat. \nCan you imagine what the Rolling Stones songs would have sounded like if Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were California boys with acoustic guitars? Would Satisfaction\, Ruby Tuesday\, or Last Time have been as powerful if they had been played on acoustic guitars and filled with vocal harmonies? \nJames Lee Stanley and John Batdorf\, purveyors of acoustic rock music for decades took 21 Rolling Stones classics and turned them into something totally unheard of. You don’t have to live in California or play acoustic guitar to be enchanted by “All Wood and Stones” … an amazing collection of Rolling Stones tunes played on acoustic guitars and brimming with joyous vocal harmonies. \nJames Lee Stanley with his first-rate guitar playing\, exceptional voice & quality songwriting has lead to 13 solo albums. His grammy nominated LIVE album was chosen as one of the TOP 5 RECORDS OF THE YEAR by Music Connection. A funny guy & great story teller. \nJAMES LEE STANLEY\, the true renaissance man\, was born into a musical family in Philadelphia\, PA\, and already performing and recording for LeGrand Records by the time he was fourteen. He majored in music at California State University\, did a stint in the Air Force as a chinese linguist\, performing three hundred dates a year with such diverse acts as BONNIE RAITT\, ROBIN WILLIAMS\, and CHICK COREA & RETURN TO FOREVER by the time he landed his second recording contract. \nIt is only a long lived singer-songwriter career that lets JAMES LEE STANLEY unite the unpredictable creativity and the eclectic elements that make up his world. His remarkable ability as a vocalist and composer allow him to create songs\, each recorded with a finely crafted backing that sonically enhance the impulse behind the lyric\, coupled with his outragously hilarious repartee. He is one of the few all time greats and undisputed geniuses among singer-songwriters. Fi Magazine listed his FREELANCE HUMAN BEING as “one of the finest recordings of 1998 and one of the Top 200 Recordings of all time.” – FI Magazine March 1999. \nJohn Batdorf started as a recording artist in the 1970s with the duo Batdorf and Rodney. Batdorf and Rodney may be the only band ever signed by Ahmet Ertegun to Atlantic Records\, AND by David Geffen to Asylum Records \, AND by Clive Davis to Arista Records\, all resulting in major label releases! They toured for five years with groups like America\, Bread\, The Youngbloods\, Loggins and Messina\, Three Dog Night\, Dan Fogelberg\, Chicago\, and Seals & Crofts. John then formed the band Silver\, best known for their 1976 hit “Wham Bam.” Again John got to tour with bands like Fleetwood Mac\, Linda Ronstadt\, Jackson Browne\, Pure Prarie League and The Doobie Brothers. \nJohn spent the 1980s as a staff songwriter writing songs for America\, England Dan\, The Curry sisters and Kim Carnes\, and as studio singer singing on hundreds of jingles\, movies\, and TV shows. He sang on four main titles including\, “Doctor\, Doctor\,” “Tom and Jerry Kids\,” “Garfield and Friends” and “Promised Land.” He also sang background vocals on some great recordings by Rod Stewart\, Motley Crue\, Dave Mason\, Eric Anderson\,The Jefferson Starship\, Berlin\, Donna Summer\, Dwight Yoakum\, Boy Meets Girl\, Mickey Thomas\, Stan Ridgeway\, James Lee Stanley\, David Lee Roth\, The London Choir Boys\, to name just a few. \nhttp://www.jamesleestanley.com \nhttp://www.johnbatdorfmusic.com \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:GRAMMY AWARD WINNING GUITARIST ED GERHARD
DESCRIPTION:Performing on 6-string\, 12-string\, slide guitar or Acoustic Hawaiian Lap Slide\, Gerhard captivates his audiences with virtuosity\, generosity and sly humor. Known for his gorgeous tone and compositional depth\, Gerhard can move a listener with a single note. Scott Alalrik of the Boston Globe said it best when he wrote ‘Gerhard does not write instrumentals. He writes songs only a guitar can sing. \nGerhard’s relationship with the guitar began at age 10\, when he happened upon classical guitar master Andrés Segovia on TV. “I’d heard all the pop music on the radio and maybe a little of that 60’s folk stuff\, but this was the first time I’d ever heard the guitar all by itself and the sound just instantly got me\,” he remembers. Ed finally got his first guitar at 14. His initial interest in classical guitar changed dramatically when he heard the music of bluesman Mississippi John Hurt. He quit lessons after the third one. He took some informal lessons with friends and learned by ear\, slowing down LPs to half-speed to pick out the tricky parts. At fifteen\, Ed was already beginning to perform in local church basement coffeehouses\, playing solo and jamming with friends. \nIn 1977 Gerhard moved to New Hampshire where he has resided ever since. Joining a thriving folk and acoustic music scene proved invaluable for the young guitarist. “There seemed to be no limitation on places to play back then\, or more importantly\, what you could play” says Ed. “You could play anything you wanted as long as people stayed around and drank.” When Gerhard was not performing solo he could often be seen sitting in with other musicians. “I loved to play\, it didn’t matter if I was solo or sideman.” During this period Ed began composing and arranging music for solo guitar\, using a staggering array of alternative guitar tunings. \nBased truly on the quality of his work\, Ed built his considerable reputation\, beginning with his debut album “Night Birds” in 1987. It garnered a spot in the Boston Globe Critics Poll Top 10 Albums of the Year.” Shortly after the album’s release\, Windham Hill Records included Ed on its Guitar Sampler (Vol.1). One of the highlights of the three hundred thousand unit selling Sampler\, “The Handing Down” introduced the world to the beauty of Ed Gerhard’s music. “That one piece made me a lot of friends around the world\,” Ed says. \nEd has released his ninth CD “There and Gone.” He was awarded a GRAMMY® for his inclusion on the CD “Henry Mancini; Pink Guitar.” Warner Brothers\, MelBay and Hal Leonard have all released Ed Gerhard’s music in books. His guitar work can be heard on recordings by Arlo Guthrie\, Jorma Kaukonen\, Bill Morrissey and in the Ken Burns films “Mark Twain” and “ The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” \nEd’s CD “Luna” is featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s 20th Anniversary list of the “240 Essential Albums.” “This soulful album of original compositions rich in melody\, chordal complexity and stylistic variety proves why Gerhard is considered to have the most exquisite acoustic guitar tone on the planet.” -Acoustic Guitar Magazine \nAlong with players like Ben Harper and David Lindley\, Gerhard’s unique approach to the Weissenborn (an acoustic Hawaiian lap slide guitar) is playing a significant role in reinvigorating interest in this somewhat esoteric but beautiful instrument. Ed’s style of Weissenborn playing is unique in that he composes and arranges music for solo Weissenborn with beautiful melodies\, complex chords and moving basslines\, unusual for an instrument that normally serves an accompaniment role. Ed is featured in the book “Lap Steel Guitar” alongside legendary players like Greg Leisz\, David Lindley\, Jerry Byrd and more. \nhttp://www.virtuerecords.com \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:TONY MCMANUS & JULIA TOASPERN
DESCRIPTION:“Tony’s music is beyond beautiful\, it’s perfect” – Tommy Emmanuel \n“Julia’s bell like voice and her filigrane fiddle playing are thrilling. She moves effortlessly from fiddle to guitar\, her solo is impressive.” – SalonFestival \nTony McManus is the leading celtic guitarist worldwide and has just been listed as one of the 50 transcendental guitarists of all time by Guitar Player Magazine. While Tony is known as a soloist his frequent collaborations with diverse musicians have always been a significant part of his work. \nJulia Toaspern is a multi-talented musician from Berlin who combines classical training on violin and voice with a wide interest in genres such as jazz\, baroque and traditional music. She has released two albums of original songs and has performed in both classical and singer/songwriter modes on both sides of the Atlantic. On top of all this her skills as a guitarist are prodigious and make an exciting fit with Tony’s work. \nTheir twin guitar treatment of traditional music is unique and each supports the other in exploring the harmonic possibilities of these old\, and not so old\, tunes. Each of the pair both flatpicks and fingerpicks at the highest level but always at the service of the tune rather than a display of technique. Her violin can effortlessly morph into a fiddle as she weaves from Italian madrigal to Scottish reel. Julia’s songs go to the heart of love and loss\, hope and survival and are inflected with musical input from a wide and eclectic experience of musical life. Tony’s and Julia’s arrangements are rooted in deep musicality and heartfelt expression. \nHaving met over a conversation in Berlin about JS Bach\, together they play and sing music that speaks to them and hopefully through them to a wider audience. \nhttp://www.tonymcmanus.com/?page_id=733 \n$20.00Read more	\n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Portland\, Oregon’s virtuoso acoustic guitar trio – Acoustic Guitar Summit – is made up of three of the country’s best fingerstyle guitarists. Two members\, Doug Smith and Mark Hanson\, won a Grammy Award in 2005 for their contributions to the Henry Mancini – Pink Guitar CD. The third member\, Oregon Music Hall of Fame member Terry Robb\, is the perennial winner of the Cascade Blues Association’s “Top Acoustic Blues Guitarist” award. The three of them will also be doing a guitar workshop from 4-6pm on this same day at Boulevard Music.\nTheir music is heard on national television (Martha Stewart Living\, American Idol)\, major films (August Rush\, Twister\, Moll Flanders) and National Public Radio (Echoes and West Coast Live). In addtion\, their recordings are regularly licensed for syndicated TV and radio broadcasts\, and regional and national advertising campaigns.\nTerry Robb has recorded over a dozen blues albums. He has played on and produced a half dozen John Fahey CDs\, toured with famed rocker Steve Miller\, and contributed a song to Robert Redford’s film Horse Whisperer. As a solo artist\, he\ncurrently records for the Memphis blues label Yellow Dog Records.\nMark Hanson is internationally known for his numerous recordings\, and for his 30+ guitar instruction manuals and videos. Four of his titles were named to the Top 100 acoustic music publications by Acoustic Guitar magazine\, and one was recenty included in the book 50 Greatest Guitar Books. His music is heard on national TV and radio programs\, including American Idol.\nNational fingerpicking champion of 2006\, Doug Smith regularly records with Mannheim Steamroller and Lion King and August Rush film composer Mark Mancina. A world-traveling talent\, Doug’s stunning solo fingerstyle compositions and arrangements\, including John Phillip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever”\, have thrilled audiences from New York to Bejing.\nAGS members have been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon Art Beat program\, and have shared the stage with such luminaries as Jerry Garcia\, John Renbourn and Tommy Emmanuel. Doug and Mark recently arranged and recorded duets for Bert Bacharach and Leiber & Stoller tribute CDs\, follow-ups to the 2005 Grammy-winning Mancini CD\, which won in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category.\nTogether the Acoustic Guitar Summit performs a wide range of music. A blistering original may lead into a tightly interwoven arrangement of a classic ballad. A gypsy jazz tune like Django Reinhardt’s “Nuages” may lead into their stunning version of the folk classic “The Water Is Wide.” Their original tunes range from intricately woven fingerpicking burners to slide-inflected blues and jazz ballads. There are always hot licks and great fun at an AGS concert!\nTheir two CDs – Summit Meeting and holiday recording O Christmas Three – are available through Accent On Music and on iTunes. \nhttp://www.AccentOnMusic.com \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:DOUG MACLEOD PLUS JESSE MACLEOD—PLUS BOOK SIGNING
DESCRIPTION:Tonight we present a show featuring cuts from Doug MacLeod’s recent album “Break the Chain”. Tonight Doug will also feature his son Jesse as part of the show with Jesse’s great original songs and performance.  In addition tonight will celebrate the release\, with book signing\, of “Who is Blues Volume I”\, the compact biography of Doug MacLeod tracing the highs and lows of Doug’s six decades in music with a forward by Jorma Kaukonen of the Jefferson Airplane.\n \nDoug MacLeod\, a prolific singer\, songwriter\, engaging storyteller\, and masterful guitarist was born in the blues and is rooted in the American tradition. MacLeod is a perennial Blues Music Award nominee and multiple Blues Music Award winner. He recently won the 2017 Blues Music Award for Acoustic Artist Of The Year and the Blues Blast Music Award for Male Artist Of The Year. \nHe is a traveling artist who writes and sings original songs that are based on his own life and experiences. He learned from the old masters\, lived the music\, and carries forward a valuable tradition. MacLeod is known for his superb songwriting\, guitar wizardry\, warm soulful vocals\, wit and unforgettable live performances. At the heart of a Doug MacLeod performance is his knack for storytelling\, bringing characters-from the faceless to the legendary-to strikingly real life. \nAs a youth Doug overcame abuse and a crippling stutter by turning to music. After picking up a guitar\, and singing – he found his voice. While he developed his rich\, soulful singing style MacLeod also worked out a unique\, unorthodox and powerfully rhythmic acoustic guitar style. The rage of a turbulent youth was eventually channeled through the guitar. Doug uses a relentless right hand to pound out an insistent\, churning beat to complement his intricate bottleneck and finger-style technique. \nMacLeod’s playing landed him sideman gigs with George ‘Harmonica’ Smith\, Big Joe Turner\, Pee Wee Crayton\, Eddie ‘Cleanhead’ Vinson\, Lowell Fulson and Big Mama Thornton. Over 29 years\, 20 studio albums\, several live records\, compilations\, a blues guitar instructional DVD and a live performance DVD\, MacLeod has consistently earned raves. His songs have been covered by many artists including Albert King\, Albert Collins\, Joe Louis Walker and Eva Cassidy. He has co-written songs with Dave Alvin and Coco Montoya. MacLeod’s songs have been featured in many TV movies and the hit show In the Heat of the Night and on Grammy nominated albums by Albert King and Albert Collins. Doug’s soulful slide guitar playing was featured in the Los Angeles opening of August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean”. \nFrom 1999 to 2004 Doug hosted Nothin’ But The Blues\, a very popular weekend blues show on Los Angeles’ KLON-KKJZ. He has also been the voice for The Blues Showcase on Continental Airlines. For ten years he penned “Doug’s Back Porch\,” a regular feature column in Blues Revue Magazine in which he shared his humorous and insightful stories with thousands of readers. He is one of the four featured artists in the movie “Resonate: A Guitar Story”. A feature documentary on the making of National Guitars. \nThe much anticipated solo live album\, ‘DOUG MACLEOD – LIVE IN EUROPE’ \, was released on June 24\, 2016. \nIn every note he performs and records\, MacLeod follows the rule-of-thumb he learned from country bluesman Ernest Banks of Toano VA.: \n“Never play a note you don’t believe”\, and “Never write or sing about what you don’t know about.” \nLike the old masters who taught him\, MacLeod’s music expresses life and times through an intangible\, elusive quality that may simply be a keen sense of what matters most. Doug’s music\, stories\, and philosophy provide a healing that has helped others overcome the hardships of their lives. \nAs Pee Wee Crayton’s widow Esther once told Doug\, “You have a message and you’ll send that message mainly to the people who don’t go to church.” Amen. \nhttp://www.doug-macleod.com \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:BEN HUNTER & JOE SEAMONS
DESCRIPTION:Seattle songsters Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons give life to voices that have long been silenced in American culture. Their award-winning performances are highlighted by story-telling that\, rather than bringing the past to life\, vividly shows how the past still lives in the present. \nThrough their songs\, audiences witness current issues crop up again and again in folk songs\, dance tunes\, acoustic blues\, and prison ballads. Ben & Joe bounce from fiddle & banjo breakdowns to a cappella field hollers\, early jazz to gospel songs featuring Piedmont guitar style and rattlin’ bones. \nWith the same versatility that won them the International Blues Challenge in 2016\, and allowed them to record with National Heritage Fellow Phil Wiggins\, the duo celebrates the ways Americans have triumphed over oppression through the vitality of their art. Audiences walk away from Ben & Joe’s concerts and workshops inspired to learn more of their own history\, and engage more deeply with their communities. \n“Their deep explorations into roots music inhabits every performance and identifies what they do as the real deal.” – Patrice O’Neil\, Wintergrass \n“I was totally blown away with Ben and Joe – I laughed\, I cried\, and I wanted to shout from the mountaintops!” – Lisa Husted\, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival \n“Hunter and Seamons expertly perform with a joyous missionary zeal.” – Steve Hunt\, Roots\n“Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons aren’t so much a throw-back to the music of the pre-war era songster tradition as they are alchemist-shamans\, seemingly sent from those times to the 21st century to wake us up to the music that is embedded deep within us. It is our national heritage. They have been the same wide-eyed children caught by the magic of the songs they learned from their elders. They have grown to be todays songsters.” \nTerry Roland\, No Depression \nhttps://benjaminhunter1.wixsite.com/benjoeband \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:SIDELINE-BLUEGRASS GREATS
DESCRIPTION:Sideline is a pedigreed six-piece powerhouse whose style has set the pace in Bluegrass for over two decades. Founders Steve Dilling\, Skip Cherryholmes and Jason Moore can all claim their own historical significance to the genre as members of highly awarded groups\, multiple Grand Ole Opry appearances and years of national and international touring. \nWhat started as a side project for the seasoned players soon moved to the front and center as the three were joined by talents of Bailey Coe; guitar\, Troy Boone; mandolin\, and Daniel Greeson; fiddle\, and began to record and release albums in earnest. \nTo listen to Sideline reminds the fan of why so many people fall in love with Bluegrass in the first place; pulse-pounding drive\, songs sung from the heart\, perfected timing and dynamics as well as a visceral emotion in the rendering. A band that was started as an off-season fun experiment has become a full-time dream team of players and singers. \nThe band\, recorded or live\, move dynamically from well chosen\, hard-hitting neo-traditional covers of classic songs to new material curated by a band with a perfect sense of who they are and what they have to say. Combine all this with their on-stage energy and finesse as well as their powerful and affecting harmonies\, and you have the embodiment of the North Carolina Bluegrass sound. Sideline has released three national projects and currently records for the highly awarded Mountain Home Music Company based near Asheville\, NC. \nhttp://www.sidelinbg.com \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:THE AUSTIN LOUNGE LIZARDS
DESCRIPTION:The Austin Lounge Lizards are arguably the perfect pairing of their hometown’s slogan\, “Live Music Capital of the World\,” and its unofficial motto\, “Keep Austin Weird.” Since 1980\, the Lizards have been spoofing the topics American families try to avoid at the Thanksgiving table: subjects like politics\, religion\, romance\, and themselves. With pointed lyrics\, precise harmonies and instrumental expertise\, the band has become legendary for its satirical skewering through song.\nThe Lizards originated in 1976 in New Jersey\, when Hank Card (vocals\, rhythm guitar) and Conrad Deisler (vocals\, lead guitar\, mandolin) met as mutual history majors at Princeton University (not prison\, as sometimes thought) and started songwriting together. Following graduation\, both Hank\, a native Oklahoman\, and Conrad\, a Tex-Cali-Connecticut-Venezuelan\, ended up in Austin. University of Georgia philosophy graduate and banjo/dobro player Tom Pittman completed the founding-troubador trifecta in 1980\, and the Austin Lounge Lizards was born.\nWith a series of talented fellow players and writers\, the band began playing dates around Austin and across Texas. Soon\, they had developed a widespread following of loyal Lizard fans\, and by 1987\, began appearing at festivals and concerts throughout North America and in the United Kingdom. Five-time winners at the Austin Music Awards\, the Lizards have played many celebrated festivals\, including California’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and Strawberry Music Festivals\, New York’s Grey Fox and Florida’s Stringbreak Festivals\, Canada’s Vancouver and Edmonton Folk Festivals and Summerfolk\, the Americana and Iron Bridge Festivals in the UK\, and the Kerrville Folk Festival close to their home in Texas. They have also performed at dozens of prestigious concert venues\, including The Barns at Wolftrap (Vienna\, VA)\, the Freight & Salvage (Berkeley\, CA)\, the Kuumbwa Jazz Center (Santa Cruz\, CA)\, John Ascuaga’s Nugget (Sparks\, NV)\, Eddie’s Attic (Atlanta)\, The Ark (Ann Arbor\, MI)\, Calgary Folk Club (Alberta\, Canada)\, the Bass Performing Arts Center & McDavid Studio (Fort Worth)\, McGonigel’s Mucky Duck (Houston) and Austin’s own Cactus Café.\nAfter more than three decades\, Tom retired from the band to his luxurious mansion in Asheville\, NC\, in 2011. But the Lizards continue. Most recently\, in December 2016\, two former Lizards rejoined the group. The band is now made up of Hank\, Conrad\, Tim Wilson (fiddle\, mandolin\, vocals) and Kirk Williams (electric bass\, vocals).\nWith their unique amalgamation of highly literate Ivy League roots; an appreciation for folk\, country\, bluegrass\, and rock and roll musical styles; creative influences such as Frank Zappa\, Spike Jones\, George Jones\, Homer & Jethro\, and the Rolling Stones; and an unquenchable thirst for the absurd\, the Lizards specialize in musical eclecticism\, excellence and extreme entertainment. \nhttp://www.austinlizards.com \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:THE EVANGENITALS
DESCRIPTION:October 27 is a day to celebrate many things. It’s“American Beer Day”\, “Cranky Co-Workers Day”\, “Sylvia Plath Day”\, as well as“National Black Cat Day”\, “National Forgiveness Day”\, and “World Day for AudioVisual Heritage”. Only one band in Los Angeles has a song that embodies each and every one of those things — The Evangenitals! And that is something to celebrate! On October 27th at Boulevard Music in Culver City the Evangenitals take the stage at 8pm for two big sets of songs\, stories\, and sing-a-longs celebrating the full spectrum of human emotions and the darn good songs they make! Promising a solid PG-rating for the evening\, the whole family is welcome to come fall in love with the diverse catalog of band leader and songwriter Juli Crockett\, whose compositions range from truck-stop lullabies to Klezmer-punk-jazz odysseys\, heartbreaking ballads to hillbilly stomp. \nThe Evangenitals boast one of the most eclectic resumes in the indie music world. As live performers\, they’ve built a fiercely loyal following through a thousand shows at clubs\, coffee houses and festivals throughout the world (including Scotland’s prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival). Their shows are notable for music that can be bawdy and rollicking in one moment\, and\, in the next\, sufficiently mysterious and haunting to make the rowdiest of beer brawlers pause\, turn toward the stage and listen. \nFounded by playwright/director Dr. Juli Crockett (Padua Playwrights) and opera\, jazz & gospel singer Lisa Dee (Selah Gospel Choir) the Evangenitals are a veritable Pandora’s box of musical influences and experiences. On a quixotic crusade in the key of life hell-bent on breaking hearts open\, they are a genre-bending\, ever-creating force of nature. Filling out the band on this glorious night will be violinist Andrea Baker (The Moth Mainstage)\, bassist Joey Maramba (John Cale)\, Michael Feldman (Cousin Junebug) on keys\, and Robert Shaffer (Ninja Academy) on drums and percussion. \nRanging from truck-stop lullabies to Klezmer-punk-jazz\, ballads & barn-burners to hillbilly stomp\, citing influences from the new-wave intelligentsia of the Talking Heads to the archetypal fire of Johnny Cash\, all welded together with the mutant masterminds of Ween: The jukebox at the Mad Hatters tea party is the Evangenitals. \n“They seductively blow smoke rings of multi-colored campfire haze right through your musical senses. This is fun\, freedom\, and freak folk all delivered with a huge capital ‘F’.” (Jeff Perkins\, Seattle Pi) \n“I hope these underground bohemian diamonds stay true to themselves; they should never be tampered with.” (Music News Nashville) \n“The female harmonies between Juli Crockett and Lisa Dee are like the Andrews Sisters re-imagined as tragic mermaids… I haven’t heard harmonies ring this good since the Chapin Sisters were on the scene.” (LA Record) \n“Transports you back to a time when the music came from front porches and folk gatherings that allowed for the songwriting to take center stage.” (Today’s Country Magazine) \n“We’re talking about alt-country at its finest\, but that’s only the start. Influences of Southern rock\, cowpunk and even a little klezmer pop make a tasty brew.” (Pasadena Weekly) \n“Their sound is a chimera of American music\, a blend of country\, bluegrass\, jazz and rock\, with soul-fondling lyrics\, which might leave your skin wet from dancing and your eyes dripping tears of joy all in the same evening.” (Monterey County Weekly) \nhttp://www.evangenitals.com/ \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:BANSHEE IN THE KITCHEN
DESCRIPTION:Banshee in the Kitchen plays Celtic music with eclectic skill and merry abandon.Touring and recording since 2002\, the trio (tonight quartet) has delighted audiences in festivals\, theaters\, living rooms\, and countless other venues from NewYork to Japan. They take traditional Celtic tunes\, find the sweet spot between old and new\, stirring it all up with trademark playfulness and musicality they term “bansheefying”. \nTo do it right\, Celtic music requires a certain amount of sassiness\, a bit of impudence along with strong respect and joyful spirit. The four women of Banshee in the Kitchen know how to balance their audacity with reverence of the art form.\n—Joe Ross\, reviewer\, talentondisplay.com and Bluegrass Unlimited \nNational Champion hammered dulcimer player Brenda Hunter (fiddle\, hammered dulcimer) and Jill Egland (flute\,accordion\, whistle) trade off inspired flights of lead and counter melody overdynamic backing by Kat Edmonson (six and twelvestring guitar\, bouzouki). No strangers to the microphone\, the four trade off lead and backing vocals on a choice selection of songs\, as well as jocularcommentary in between. Add to this Kris Martin on stand-up bass and you have the filled out quartet version of the group. \nhttp://www.bansheeinthekitchen.com \n$15.00Read more

SUMMARY:JIM KWESKIN +THE DOWN HILL STRUGGLERS
DESCRIPTION:Jim Kweskin is probably best known as a singer and bandleader. He also created one of the bedrock guitar styles of the folk revival\, adapting the ragtime-blues fingerpicking of artists like Blind Boy Fuller to the more complex chords of pop and jazz. He has maintained a remarkably consistent musical vision since his jug band days\, continuing to explore traditional folk and blues with the sophisticated sensibility of a jazz musician and jazz with the communal simplicity of a folk artist. He has recorded solo ventures\, as a member of the U and I band\, and with U and I bandmate Samoa Wilson\, and continues to perform widely in various formats. In recent years he and Geoff Muldaur have often appeared as a duo\, revisiting and expanding on their Jug Band repertoire. Tonight Jim will be accompanied by banjo\, fiddle\, and acoustic guitar—The Down Hill Strugglers. \n“The rock historian Ed Ward went so far as to place the Kweskin Band alongside the Beatles\, the Rolling Stones and the Byrds as that period’s most influential groups.” – Alex Ward\, The New York Times \n“When it came to jug band music\, razzmatazz jazz\, and swinging spins on Piedmont blues back in the ’60s\, Jim Kweskin was top dog. Jim Kweskin’s famed Jug Band hot-wired an entire movement that still has a certain impact on the folk scene today.” – Jim Macnie\, The Providence Phoenix \nThe Down Hill Strugglers ARE an old time string band based simultaneously out of Kentucky\, Louisiana and New York. They have released an album on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and are featured on the soundtrack to the Coen Brothers film\, “Inside Llewyn Davis” produced by T-Bone Burnett. The Down Hill Strugglers band formed while hanging out at the home of their mutual friend Peter Stampfel of the Holy Modal Rounders\, where they also met friend and mentor John Cohen of the New Lost City Ramblers. \nBy carrying the music of the old rural America forward The Down Hill Strugglers are extending the legacy of the New Lost City Ramblers by bringing archaic sounds into the present\, and challenge audiences reject a dystopian future animated by disco beats and their ilk. \nThe Greek legend of Sisyphus is: “Sisyphus (/ˈsɪsɪfəs/;[1] Greek: Σίσυφος\, Sísyphos) was a king of Ephyra (now known as Corinth) punished for chronic deceitfulness by being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill\, only to watch it roll back down\, and to repeat this action forever.” The Down Hill Strugglers are the opposite\, desperately struggling to keep a huge boulder from rolling down a hill. \nThe Down Hill Strugglers are:\nWalker Shepard – fiddle\, banjo\, guitar\, harmonica\, voice\nJackson Lynch – fiddle\, banjo\, guitar\, voice\nEli Smith – banjo\, guitar\, mandolin\, harmonica\, Jews harp\, pump organ\, voice\nThey are often joined by John Cohen – banjo\, guitar\, mandolin\, voice\, brain \nSome Quotes About the Band: \n“The Down Hill Strugglers are\, to my ears\, the very best interpreters of traditional material presently going.” \nhttp://www.jimkweskin.com \nhttp://downhillstrugglers.blogspot.com/p/press.html \n$20.00Read more

SUMMARY:THE FOLK COLLECTION
DESCRIPTION:The Folk Collection takes you on a trip down memory lane in the footsteps of the Kingston Trio\, Peter\, Paul and Mary\, John Denver\, and the Limelighters with songs like “Blowin’ in the Wind” and the “MTA.”\nTHE FOLK COLLECTION could just as well be named the “Singing the Classic Songs of the ’60s Folk Era” group.  Tony Unger\, Ed Labowitz and Mike Sirota grew up in the 1960’s\, when they fell in love with the story songs and 3-part harmonies of that acoustic era.  Ed and Tony have been a duo on and off since their days at Hollywood High School\, and Mike joined the group in 2003. \nMuch of their repertoire is familiar to audiences of all ages.  They have been influenced by the well-known groups of the era\, but they have their own blend\, sound – and humor.  Audiences get a real kick out of their unique medley arrangement of the great TV Western theme songs of the ’50s (including songs from the hit shows “Rawhide\,” Davy Crockett\,” “Maverick\,” and “Bonanza”). \nThe Folk Collection grew up loving folk music\, and the turnouts at their shows confirm that they have struck a “chord” with audiences of all ages\, who really like listening to the words and harmonies – and joining in when the mood and song fit.  Their show is centered around folk music and good clean jokes.  Their shows are family friendly\, and their audiences are often multi-generational – children\, parents\, grandparents\, and even great-grandparents – enjoying the music of The Folk Collection\, together.  Don’t miss an opportunity to share an evening with THE FOLK COLLECTION.  You will leave singing\, toe-tapping\, and smiling. \nhttp://www.thefolkcollection.com \n$17.50Read more	\n \n \n
