Tonight we present two of Bruces other musical endeavors\, The Red Guitar and the Junk Yard Duo. A busy touring schedule; seventeen recordings as a leader; countless sideman recording dates–including a featured role on one of jazz great Ray Brown’s last albums; soundtrack performances on three of Clint Eastwood’s distinguished films–the Oscar-winning Million Dollar Baby\, Oscar-nominated Flags of Our Fathers and Hereafter; producer\, arranger\, and acclaimed educator; over twenty appearances at the landmark Monterey Jazz Festival; in residence at USC ’s Studio / Jazz Guitar Dept.—when does Bruce Forman rest? Forman is a seasoned jazz player with top-level skills as a leader\, entertainer and sideman. He creates soulful\, lyrical melodies\, inventive harmonies\, and solid accompaniment. Though he can shred bebop at blistering tempos with the best of ‘em\, he is no urban snob. SUMMARY:ADAM DEL MONTE ENSEMBLE
DESCRIPTION:One of the leading flamenco and classical guitarist/composers of his generation\, Adam del Monte has made it his life mission to fully express himself in these two genres\, transcending labeling and convention. Always having incorporated a wide array of musical styles in his compositions\, del Monte has embarked on a journey of creating a unique sound and language of flamenco that is both steeped in tradition and progressive in its openness to musical flavors from around the world. Del Monte has recorded for Deutsche Gramophone – the featured flamenco guitar part in the double Grammy award winning opera “Ainadamar” by Osvaldo Golijov (2006)\, with soprano Dawn Upshaw and the Atlanta Symphony\, conducted by Robert Spano. Since then he has toured this opera in\, Carnegie Hall\, NY\, Lincoln Center\, NY\, Barbican Center\, London\, Colorado Music Festival\, in Boulder\, Chicago Symphony and many more. Del Monte has recently composed his second flamenco guitar concerto\, “Paisajes”\, which was debuted and commissioned by the St. Monica Symphony. He has since performed it with the Moscow State Symphony in Tchaikovsky Hall and the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra\, in Caracas\, Venezuela. He has also recorded “Avner’s Theme” by film composer John Williams for the sound track CD of the motion picture “ Munich” by Steven Spielberg. Other film credits include featured participations in Films such as Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and Mr and Mrs. Smith with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie\, music by John Powell\, and Toy Story 3\, music by Randy Newman. Del Monte has also performed with flamenco singer Enrique Morente and the Madrid Symphony Orchestra\, as well as with Lole’ y Manuel. Del Monte was both influenced by and inspired the younger generation of flamenco performers who were beginning to depart from the previous virtual space of Spanish flamenco. Del Monte\, too\, set out in new directions\, integrating years of traditional and leading –edge flamenco training as well as expanding his musicianship on the classical guitar. An eclectic awareness of jazz\, world music and other contemporary forms led to new\, creative renditions of flamenco repertoire.  \nIn February of 2000 he performed the Concierto de Aranjuez with the LA Philharmonic. In  June 2000\, he performed at the Hollywood Bowl\, once with his flamenco ensemble and once with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and classical Spanish dancer Lola Greco. \n Adam performed as soloist the Concierto de Aranjuez at Disney Hall several times. He has also performed the “Aranjuez” with the Pacific Symphony with Carl St. Claire. In 2005 del Monte took part in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Music Series at Disney Hall\, performing the “Histoire du Tango” by Astor Piazzolla with violinist Mark Kashper. He was a member of the Falla Guitar Trio from 2007-2012  where he performed extensively all around the US. \n In 2008 he has performed his Flamenco Concerto and the Concierto de Aranjuez with the Ranana Symphonet\, conducted by Nir Kabaretti. \n First Prize Winner at the 1997 Stotsenberg International Classical Guitar Competition\, del Monte is one of the new generations dynamic force in both flamenco and classical guitar. \nhttp://www.adamdelmonte.com

He isn’t sleeping he just got blown away by David’s playing. David is amazing\, one of the planets great flatpickers. Born in Washington\, D.C. in 1961\, a family move to Nashville at age 3 fully immersed David Grier into the bluegrass music world\, and at age 6\, he began playing the guitar. Today\, he is regarded as one of the premier acoustic guitarists in the world\, along with his early influences\, Doc Watson\, Tony Rice\, and family friend Clarence White. Recognized by Acoustic Guitar Magazine in 2000 as one of the Artists of the Decade\, and named Guitar Player of the Year three times by the International Bluegrass Music Association\, Grier has played on four Grammy Award-winning albums (True Life Blues: A Tribute to Bill Monroe; The Great Dobro Sessions; Alison Brown’s Fairweather; and Amazing Grace 2: A Country Salute to Gospel).Having released four albums on Rounder\, beginning in 1988 with Freewheeling\, Grier launched his own label\, Dreadnought Recordings\, with the 1998 debut release\, Hootenanny\, with Dirk Powell and Tim O’Brien (“endlessly inventive and tasteful” – All Music Guide). His most recent release\, Evocative (Dreadnought 2009)\, featuring 10 original tunes and a rich complement of collaborators (Victor Wooten\, Paul Franklin\, Stuart Duncan and more)\, has been hailed for its “deep musical introspection” as well as its “unmatchable mastery of the guitar” (Martin Mull). This show will spotlight these two fine artists with their own special show of classics and originals. \nNashville-native dread-locked jazz-vocalist Annie Sellick has performed and recorded with most of her heroes (including Joey DeFrancesco\, Bela Fleck and a Mark O’ Connor tour)\, enjoyed stardom in her hometown and toured nationally and internationally.  Annie recently toured all of December as a featured soloist with Tommy Emmanuel. Perhaps her best quality is the organic sincerity she exudes from the stage\, hooking an audience into the stories of the songs she sings. \nRounding out the duo\, Annie’s husband is as versatile a harmonica player as he is a guitarist.  Pat Bergeson moved to Nashville upon Chet Atkins’ request to join his band (He joined Atkins and Jerry Reed to record their album\, Sneakin’ Around) and has performed and recorded with a long list of chart toppers and cult favorites including tours with Lyle Lovett & Madeleine Peyroux. His versatility\, which encompasses jazz\, blues\, rock and finger style\, has led Bergeson to become a popular session musician for several well-known musicians\, including Michael McDonald\, Peter Frampton\, and Tommy Emmanuel. Pat is currently a member of Les Brers\, a new incarnation of the Allman Bros including original members Butch Truck and Jaimoe\,&  former members Oteil Burbridge and Jack Pearson. DESCRIPTION:Performing on 6-string\, 12-string\, slide guitar or Acoustic Hawaiian Lap Slide\, Gerhard captivates his audiences with virtuosity\, generosity and sly humor.  Known for his gorgeous tone and compositional depth\, Gerhard can move a listener with a single note.  Scott Alalrik of the Boston Globe said it best when he wrote ‘Gerhard does not write instrumentals.  He writes songs only a guitar can sing. \nGerhard’s relationship with the guitar began at age 10\, when he happened upon classical guitar master Andrés Segovia on TV. “I’d heard all the pop music on the radio and maybe a little of that 60’s folk stuff\, but this was the first time I’d ever heard the guitar all by itself and the sound just instantly got me\,” he remembers. Ed finally got his first guitar at 14. His initial interest in classical guitar changed dramatically when he heard the music of bluesman Mississippi John Hurt. He quit lessons after the third one. He took some informal lessons with friends and learned by ear\, slowing down LPs to half-speed to pick out the tricky parts. At fifteen\, Ed was already beginning to perform in local church basement coffeehouses\, playing solo and jamming with friends. \nIn 1977 Gerhard moved to New Hampshire where he has resided ever since. Joining a thriving folk and acoustic music scene proved invaluable for the young guitarist. “There seemed to be no limitation on places to play back then\, or more importantly\, what you could play” says Ed. “You could play anything you wanted as long as people stayed around and drank.” When Gerhard was not performing solo he could often be seen sitting in with other musicians. “I loved to play\, it didn’t matter if I was solo or sideman.” During this period Ed began composing and arranging music for solo guitar\, using a staggering array of alternative guitar tunings. \nBased truly on the quality of his work\, Ed built his considerable reputation\, beginning with his debut album “Night Birds” in 1987. It garnered a spot in the Boston Globe Critics Poll Top 10 Albums of the Year.” Shortly after the album’s release\, Windham Hill Records included Ed on its Guitar Sampler (Vol.1). One of the highlights of the three hundred thousand unit selling Sampler\, “The Handing Down” introduced the world to the beauty of Ed Gerhard’s music. “That one piece made me a lot of friends around the world\,” Ed says. \nEd has released his ninth CD “There and Gone.” He was awarded a GRAMMY® for his inclusion on the CD “Henry Mancini; Pink Guitar.” Warner Brothers\, MelBay and Hal Leonard have all released Ed Gerhard’s music in books. DESCRIPTION:Slack key and steel guitarists\, Jim Kimo West and Ken Emerson join forces for a rare evening of solo and duet performances celebrating the release of their great new album of Slack Key & steel bodied resonator guitar duets.\n“Slack Key” means that some of the strings on a guitar are slacked from standard tuning\, with the bass\, melody\, and improvisation played at the same time\, and is often played to accompany traditional dance or song. Many players use their own special tunings that often remain proprietary secrets. Tonights show will feature this unique and beautiful style of playing.\nJim “Kimo” West first visited Hana\, Maui in 1985\, after a long summer on the road as guitarist for famed musical satirist\, “Weird Al” Yankovic. As the sounds of Gabby Pahinui\, the Sons of Hawai’i\, Sonny Chillingworth\, The Sunday Manoa\, and others\, played on the turntable\, he jammed along for fun and relaxation. Already a devotee of open tunings\, he was immediately drawn to the gentle rhythms of ki ho ‘alu (slack key guitar) and soon began writing his own songs. The rich physical and cultural landscape of the Hana Coast has provided the inspiration for many of his compositions.\nWhile always retaining the heartfelt essence of traditional slack key\, Jim “Kimo” West brings much of his own musical heritage to his original ki ho’alu instrumentals. His style can best be described as “nahenahe”\, meaning “soft\, sweet or gentle voice”\, a fusion of old and new but still rooted deeply in tradition.\nJim lives in Los Angeles where he writes and produces music which has appeared in feature films and TV shows on all the major networks and cable channels. \n“Jim West’s new recording continues his Slack Key explorations in his unique and beautiful style\, and in various tunings\, including two of his own invention\, further accentuating his own sound”\n — George Winston. pianist/ guitarist \nKen Emerson plays both Hawaiian Slack Key and lap steel guitar and switches easily between them during his performance\, laying his guitar on his lap and picking up a steel bar for an instrumental interlude. This requires a special finesse and light touch because the slack key guitar has lower action than a dedicated lap steel guitar. He has developed his unique style through many musical genres. He has played his special blend of Blues/Jazz Hawaiian guitar for 40 years.. Born into a musical family\, Ken grew up with his fathers’ extensive record collection of jazz\, swing\, Hawaiian and world music styles.\n Living in the San Francisco Bay Area\, he played the folk and blues songs of the early ‘60s\, learning right hand fingerstyle techniques that led to his development as a fingerstyle picker.\n With the explosion of the San Francisco sound of the mid- later ‘60’s Ken also immersed himself into rock and electric blues styles. He was particularly drawn to bottleneck and slide guitar.\n In 1968 Ken’s family moved to Hawaii. Absorbing the Hawaiian culture\, Ken began studying Hawaiian language and music emulating the players of the 1920?s and ‘30s era by listening to vintage Hawaiian 78 rpm records\, zeroing in on the jazz and blues styles of Sol Ho’opi’i and Sol K. Bright. Soon Ken was playing alongside such legendary performers as Gabby Pahinui\, Genoa Keawe\, Raymond Kane\, and Moe Keale. DESCRIPTION:Winner of the 2002 National Fingerstyle Guitar Contest and open division winner of the 2004 International Home of the Legends Competition\, veteran guitarist John Standefer is a true master of fingerstyle guitar. He has traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad performing concerts\, teaching master classes\, and performing and recording with an impressive list of other artists. He teaches and performs yearly at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society convention in Nashville to honor his mentor. By age 16\, he had begun a lifetime as a professional guitarist and teacher. His musical interests continued to expand to include folk\, pop\, jazz and bossa nova music (among others). As a result\, the guitar arrangements he has developed contain a surprisingly colorful blend of styles and genres. \nOver his life John has traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad performing concerts\, teaching master classes and instructing Christian guitarists through his highly acclaimed Praise Guitar Workshop. John currently performs and teaches yearly at such events as the Chet Atkins Convention in Nashville and the Christian Musician Summit in Seattle. He has also performed and/or recorded with many other guitar greats as well\, including Tommy Emmanuel\, John Knowles\, Pat Kirtley\, Guy Van Duser\, Richard Smith and Doug Smith. John also writes regularly for Fingerstyle Guitar and Christian Musician magazines. Recently John was inducted into the Clark County Hall of Fame in Vancouver\, Washington where he also teaches a limited number of private guitar lessons.
