SUMMARY:JAMES LEE STANLEY
DESCRIPTION:“So where have they been hiding James Lee Stanley? We could say that James Lee Stanley is probably the last great undiscovered singersongwriter in America. But true as that may be let’s say something else. Let’s say that a diamond has been smuggled into the wasteland… and here is where the wasteland ends.”\n–  Tom Robbins\, Author of Even Cowgirls Get the Blues \nTonight James will perform music including tunes from his recent recording “Without Susie” which is a versatile and refreshing mix of acoustic guitar fueled socio-political commentary and love songs featuring his modern age blues tune “Hang Up and Drive.” His actual latest recording he did with Dan Navarro is called Wood and Led and features great original arrangements of Led Zeppelin tunes done acoustically. \nIt is only a long lived singer-songwriter career that lets JAMES LEE STANLEY unite the unpredictable creativity and the eclectic elements that make up his world. His remarkable ability as a vocalist and composer allow him to create songs\, each recorded with a finely crafted backing that sonically enhance the impulse behind the lyric\, coupled with his outragously hilarious repartee. He is one of the few all time greats and undisputed geniuses among singer-songwriters. Fi Magazine listed his FREELANCE HUMAN BEING as “one of the finest recordings of 1998 and one of the Top 200 Recordings\nJAMES LEE STANLEY\, the true renaissance man\, was born into a musical family in Philadelphia\, PA\, and already performing and recording for LeGrand Records by the time he was fourteen. He majored in music at California State University\, did a stint in the Air Force as a chinese linguist\, performing three hundred dates a year with such diverse acts as BONNIE RAITT\, ROBIN WILLIAMS\, and CHICK COREA & RETURN TO FOREVER by the time he landed his second recording contract. \nhttp://www.jamesleestanley.com \nRead more

SUMMARY:Tony McManus
DESCRIPTION:Please note that this show only will end online sales on Thursday 9/15/22 at 6pm. After that time they may be purchased at Boulevard Music in person\, over the phone before 6pm the night of the show\, or if available at the door. \nHailed by John Renbourn as ‘the best Celtic guitarist in the world’ Tony McManus has also been listed as one of the 50 transcendent guitarists of all time by Guitar Player Magazine. Tony has both extended and transcended the parameters of contemporary Celtic music. Ranked by peers and predecessors alike alongside the guitar world’s all-time greats\, his fiendishly dexterous\, dazzlingly original playing draws on traditions from the entire Celtic world\, along with still further-ranging flavours such as jazz and eastern European music. Long applauded for his uncanny ability to transpose the delicate\, complex ornamentation characteristic of traditional bagpipe or fiddle tunes – even the phrasing of a Gaelic song – onto his own six strings\, McManus is increasingly being acknowledged also as a pioneering figure in bridging the realms of Celtic music and other guitar genres.\nBorn in 1965 in Paisley\, near Glasgow\, McManus was introduced to traditional music via the family record collection. Having first tried his hand at the fiddle\, whistle and mandolin\, he took up the guitar aged ten\, although subsequent academic inclinations got him halfway through a PhD in maths before the music won out. After rapidly making his name as an unusually fluent and sensitive accompanist\, he took the solo plunge with a triumphant main-stage debut on the final night of Glasgow’s inaugural Celtic Connections festival in 1994\, supporting Capercaillie in front of a 2500-strong crowd.\nWith the loyal support of Greentrax Recordings in Scotland Tony’s first self-titled recording in 1996\, followed by Pourquoi Quebec in 1999 led to worldwide recognition. However\, it was with the release of Ceol More in 2002 that Tony’s stature as a first-class musician reached a new level. Having heard his session work on several albums\, Nashville based Compass Records released “Ceol More” in North America to universally ecstatic reviews. Critics hailed the focused\, spell-binding nature of the music\, from the plaintive Jewish hymn “Shalom Aleichem” to the ingenious arrangement of the Charles Mingus tune “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat”. Having been nominated as Musician of the Year by both the BBC Folk Awards and The Scottish Traditional Music awards\, in 2002 “Ceol More” hit the Critic’s Album of the year list in Acoustic Guitar magazine and was named Live Ireland Awards’ Album of the Year. \nhttps://www.tonymcmanus.com \nPlease note that this show only will end online sales on Thursday 9/15/22 at 6pm. SUMMARY:LED ZEPAGAIN—ACOUSTIC
DESCRIPTION:Tonight we present a rare chance to hear all of the Led Zeppelin classics acoustically. As they are celebrating their 30th year in existence in 2018\, Sony recording artists Led Zepagain have become highly regarded as the most accurate and authentic replication of Led Zeppelin in the world today. With well over a million downloads on iTunes to their credit\, Led Zepagain’s popularity has also seeped into pop culture by having been mentioned on the network TV shows “The Gilmore Girls”\, “Chicago Fire” and “Bad Judge” !\nIn January of 2004\, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page himself attended a Led Zepagain show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. He was absolutely astonished at the bands accuracy stating “It’s amazing how much you sound like us. You must have grown up on this because you were inside the music\, and you paid attention to detail in your presentation…I can tell you guys really love our music!” This encounter led to the members of Led Zepagain attending Led Zeppelin’s 2007 Reunion Concert at London’s O2 Arena by invitation of Mr. Page as well as a surprise visit from Jason Bonham in March of 2009 as he sat in with the band on their encore performance of the song “Rock and Roll”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w6noToYSqQ\nLed Zepagain was honored to have been featured on AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands” in 2014\, and were asked to come back for an encore performance in March of 2017 to perform the iconic Led Zeppelin lV album in it’s entirety.\nHaving played nationally and internationally in such places as Japan\, Russia\, Ireland\, Panama\, Alaska\, Germany\, Chile\, Bosnia\, Brazil\, Peru\, Argentina\, Canada\, Paraguay\, Kosovo\, Mexico City and Guam\, Led Zepagain regularly performs to packed houses all over the world. We guarantee that from the sound and the look\, to the vintage equipment and costuming\, Led Zepagain will be the closest thing that you will ever see to a live Led Zeppelin performance! Come on out and see what Jimmy Page was talking about. \nhttps://www.zepagain.com/

SUMMARY:RICK RUSKIN—SORRY TO SAY CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say this show has been cancelled. \nRick Ruskin started playing guitar in 1962 and in just one year became a respected professional musician in his native Detroit\, Michigan. In 1964\, while still in Jr. High School\, he was chosen to open the bill for the Reverend Gary Davis at Detroit’s legendary Retort Coffee House. This engagement resulted in a fast and permanent friendship with the master blues\, ragtime\, and gospel guitarist. Rev. Davis was so taken by the young Ruskin’s skill and eagerness\, that he invited Rick to spend that summer with him at his Long Island home. By the end of the summer\, Davis stopped teaching Rick new material and told him\, “It’s time you started paying attention to your own music.” Ruskin has been doing that ever since. \nIn addition to being a top guitar player\, Rick is a singer\, composer and arranger of note. He is known for his many fine compositions such as “Maze Music for Mice\,” “Six String Conspiracy\,” and “Kudah Duxx\,” a track previously featured in Fingerstyle Guitar magazine. He’s also known for his arrangements of such pop classics as “Lady Madonna\,” “Riki Don’t Lose That Number\,” and “Here Comes The Sun\,”\nRick will also perform some tunes from his latest CD\, “How to be smarter than your guitar.” \nhttp://www.liondogmusic.com \n

SUMMARY:BERNIE PEARL & MIKE BARRY—SORRY TO SAY CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say this show has been cancelled. \nThe blues is life itself to Bernie Pearl. A guitarist with an upbeat\, finger-poppin’ picking style he learned at the elbows of bluesmasters Sam ‘Lightnin’ Hopkins\, Mance Lipscomb\, Mississippi Fred MacDowell\, and others. Yet\, Bernie Pearl is no hidebound traditionalist. As music critics and aficionados have said for years\, he is a craftsman who packs his songs with melodic interpretations that are new and personal each time he picks up his vintage Martin or National. To hear him tell it\, “I’m not a retro player. I’m playing real blues for right now.” \nBernie\, who grew up in the Los Angeles community of Boyle Heights\, took up the guitar in the 1950’s. Later\, at his brother’s legendary blues showcase\, the Ash Grove\, he met\, studied with\, and often performed with greats like Hopkins\, Lipscomb\, and MacDowell as well as with Freddie King\, Albert Collins\, and Big Mama Thornton. Bernie played duets with John Lee Hooker at Gerde’s Folk City in Greenwich Village. “They were my teachers\,” he says\, “and it wasn’t just music they were teaching. If you took Mance or Lightnin’ out fishing you got philosophy\, history\, and lessons in life”. \nArmed with the teachings of those and other blues icons\, Bernie raises the roof with dazzling guitar solos – acoustic and electric – and with his own Bernie Pearl Blues Band\, which has backed the likes of B.B. King\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, Willie Dixon\, and Big Joe Turner. The Bernie Pearl Blues Band has been a popular draw at many of Southern California’s best-known musical haunts: the House of Blues\, California Plaza Presents\, the Blue Café\, Disney’s California Adventure\, and the Playboy Pasadena Community Jazz Festival. Bernie has appeared at major Festivals in Chicago\, The Poconos\, Vancouver\, Portland\, and Long Beach\, as well as in Europe. \nA life-long blues evangelist\, Bernie began broadcasting Nothin’ But the Blues on KPPC FM in 1968\, making him L.A.’s first all-blues FM disc jockey. He went on to host the blues on KLON and KCRW from 1980-92\, helping found the Long Beach Blues Festival along the way. \nHis 15-year relationship with Louisiana blues man Harmonica Fats produced three outstanding CDs\, with the unplugged Two Heads Are Better and Blow\, Fat Daddy\, Blow\, each garnering W.C. Handy nominations in the mid-1990’s. Tonight Pearl shares the stage with bassist/producer Mike Barry who is a perfect match to set the groove for the tunes they perform. \nBernie applied his studio skills as a producer and songwriter-arranger of jazz-rocking violin pioneer Papa John Creach’s critically-acclaimed 1992 Papa Blues CD (Bee Bump BBCD 03). \nAs president of Big Time Blues Productions\, Pearl was named national “Blues Promoter of the Year” by the Blues Foundation in 1987\, and he continues to book\, promote\, advertise\, and oversee blues acts at annual events such as the Big Time Blues Festival and the Blues Harmonica Blowdown. He has taught blues history and blues guitar courses at several area universities\, and continues to teach at Cal State Long Beach\, as well as privately. \nHis first solo CD\, released in August 2002\, was recorded in an all-acoustic concert at Culver City’s Boulevard Music and is appropriately titled Bernie Pearl Live From Boulevard Music (Major Label ML 011-CD). \nFor music lovers tired of market-tested commercial radio and industry-buffed overnight phenoms\, Pearl provides virtuosity\, country wisdom\, a warm voice\, and the kind of fingerpicking and slide guitar work that still gets juke-joints jumping. \n“…Pearl’s music and voice evoke the unpretentious\, truth-telling qualities of the blues. The sparse arrangements that grace this 15-song set only heighten the soulful and spiritual nature of the music. Pearl’s guitar virtuosity is evident\, whether he’s playing lead\, rhythm\, or slide guitar…his version of (Son House’s) Shetland Pony Blues would make the old master proud” \nStephen A. King\, Living Blues Magazine \n“Making blues music draws from someplace deep\,” he says. “I’m lucky. It’s what I do.” \nhttp://www.berniepearl.com \n

SUMMARY:DAVID GRIER—SORRY THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say this show has been cancelled. We look forward to having David back under better circumstances. \n“David Grier is one of the best flatpicking guitarists on the planet earth”—GM. Check the dog in the picture. He isn’t sleeping he just got blown away by David’s playing. David is amazing\, one of the planets great flatpickers. Born in Washington\, D.C. in 1961\, a family move to Nashville at age 3 fully immersed David Grier into the bluegrass music world\, and at age 6\, he began playing the guitar. Today\, he is regarded as one of the premier acoustic guitarists in the world\, along with his early influences\, Doc Watson\, Tony Rice\, and family friend Clarence White. Recognized by Acoustic Guitar Magazine in 2000 as one of the Artists of the Decade\, and named Guitar Player of the Year three times by the International Bluegrass Music Association\, Grier has played on four Grammy Award-winning albums (True Life Blues: A Tribute to Bill Monroe; The Great Dobro Sessions; Alison Brown’s Fairweather; and Amazing Grace 2: A Country Salute to Gospel).Having released four albums on Rounder\, beginning in 1988 with Freewheeling\, Grier launched his own label\, Dreadnought Recordings\, with the 1998 debut release\, Hootenanny\, with Dirk Powell and Tim O’Brien (“endlessly inventive and tasteful” – All Music Guide). His most recent release\, Evocative (Dreadnought 2009)\, featuring 10 original tunes and a rich complement of collaborators (Victor Wooten\, Paul Franklin\, Stuart Duncan and more)\, has been hailed for its “deep musical introspection” as well as its “unmatchable mastery of the guitar” (Martin Mull). Other Dreadnought releases include the highly-acclaimed Live at the Linda (2007) and I’ve Got the House to Myself (2002) (“unfettered explosive invention” – Tim O’Brien).\nSelect Quotes\n“His unmatchable mastery of the guitar is ever present\, but it’s the emotional exploration of themusic as a whole that leaves a lasting impression. There is evidence everywhere of deep musical introspection: real soul-searching\, and\, I would have to say\, bravery.”~ Martin Mull\n “David Grier is a willful\, accurate instrumentalist whose every note seems to run through a bright\, intelligent sieve. He maintains an unqualified standard of excellence in guitar playing\, always with a knack for unorthodox surprise.”\n~ Claire Lynch\n“Grier sculpts fascinating forms the way air and moisture combine to create billowing cumuli.”\n~Jazz Review\n“I’ve had the good fortune to see David Grier live several times\, and while I certainly delight in watching him play\, I especially like to watch folks who have never seen him live before. There’s this denial/acceptance cycle as they try to rationalize what they “know” to be possible with the guitar versus what their eyes and ears are experiencing. . . . And he does it in this self-effacing way that almost undercuts his musical inventiveness [and] preternatural skill.”\n~Chris Thiessen\, Flatpick Guitar Magazine \nhttp://www.davidgrier.com \n

SUMMARY:GUITARIST ED GERHARD—SORRY TO SAY CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist Ed Gerhard—Sorry to say cancelled. We look forward to his return when times allow for that.\n \nPerforming on 6-string\, 12-string\, slide guitar or Acoustic Hawaiian Lap Slide\, Gerhard captivates his audiences with virtuosity\, generosity and sly humor. Known for his gorgeous tone and compositional depth\, Gerhard can move a listener with a single note. Scott Alalrik of the Boston Globe said it best when he wrote ‘Gerhard does not write instrumentals. He writes songs only a guitar can sing. \nGerhard’s relationship with the guitar began at age 10\, when he happened upon classical guitar master Andrés Segovia on TV. “I’d heard all the pop music on the radio and maybe a little of that 60’s folk stuff\, but this was the first time I’d ever heard the guitar all by itself and the sound just instantly got me\,” he remembers. Ed finally got his first guitar at 14. His initial interest in classical guitar changed dramatically when he heard the music of bluesman Mississippi John Hurt. He quit lessons after the third one. He took some informal lessons with friends and learned by ear\, slowing down LPs to half-speed to pick out the tricky parts. At fifteen\, Ed was already beginning to perform in local church basement coffeehouses\, playing solo and jamming with friends. \nIn 1977 Gerhard moved to New Hampshire where he has resided ever since. Joining a thriving folk and acoustic music scene proved invaluable for the young guitarist. “There seemed to be no limitation on places to play back then\, or more importantly\, what you could play” says Ed. “You could play anything you wanted as long as people stayed around and drank.” When Gerhard was not performing solo he could often be seen sitting in with other musicians. “I loved to play\, it didn’t matter if I was solo or sideman.” During this period Ed began composing and arranging music for solo guitar\, using a staggering array of alternative guitar tunings. \nBased truly on the quality of his work\, Ed built his considerable reputation\, beginning with his debut album “Night Birds” in 1987. It garnered a spot in the Boston Globe Critics Poll Top 10 Albums of the Year.” Shortly after the album’s release\, Windham Hill Records included Ed on its Guitar Sampler (Vol.1). One of the highlights of the three hundred thousand unit selling Sampler\, “The Handing Down” introduced the world to the beauty of Ed Gerhard’s music. “That one piece made me a lot of friends around the world\,” Ed says. \nEd has released his ninth CD “There and Gone.” He was awarded a GRAMMY® for his inclusion on the CD “Henry Mancini; Pink Guitar.” Warner Brothers\, MelBay and Hal Leonard have all released Ed Gerhard’s music in books. His guitar work can be heard on recordings by Arlo Guthrie\, Jorma Kaukonen\, Bill Morrissey and in the Ken Burns films “Mark Twain” and “ The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” \nEd’s CD “Luna” is featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s 20th Anniversary list of the “240 Essential Albums.” “This soulful album of original compositions rich in melody\, chordal complexity and stylistic variety proves why Gerhard is considered to have the most exquisite acoustic guitar tone on the planet.” -Acoustic Guitar Magazine \nAlong with players like Ben Harper and David Lindley\, Gerhard’s unique approach to the Weissenborn (an acoustic Hawaiian lap slide guitar) is playing a significant role in reinvigorating interest in this somewhat esoteric but beautiful instrument. Ed’s style of Weissenborn playing is unique in that he composes and arranges music for solo Weissenborn with beautiful melodies\, complex chords and moving basslines\, unusual for an instrument that normally serves an accompaniment role. Ed is featured in the book “Lap Steel Guitar” alongside legendary players like Greg Leisz\, David Lindley\, Jerry Byrd and more. \nhttp://www.virtuerecords.com \n

SUMMARY:MISSY ANDERSEN —SORRY THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say this show has been cancelled and we look forward to Missy Andersen and her One Man Band returning in the not to distant future. \nIf a voice as rich\, supple\, and vibrant as Missy Andersen’s could come out of a bottle – not that it hasn’t been tried – every blues singer would be dripping deep soul.” – DAVE RUBIN\, Author & Journalist. \nMissy Andersen and her accompanist/husband\, Heine Andersen\, love what they do. Keeping a heavy touring schedule\, the tenacious twosome performs as a duo which showcases the couple’s individual and combined talents. In the absence of other instruments\, listeners find a greater appreciation for Missy’s gospel-tinged vocals and Heine’s Blues & Americana inspired guitar work. \nA charismatic performer known for her expressive and earthy vocals\, Missy Andersen received the coveted Blues Music Award nomination for Soul Blues Female Artist in 2015 and then again in 2016. Her sophomore album\, In the Moment\, received rave reviews from both critics and fans and ended up on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Albums. Raised in Queens\, NY\, Missy grew up singing along to the blues\, soul\, and gospel music of her parents and grandparents. These influences are evident throughout her recordings and live performances. \nOriginally from the country of Denmark\, but steeped in American Roots music\, Heine Andersen has toured extensively in both Europe and North America\, playing some of the most prestigious stages and festivals throughout his career. Noted for his polyrhythmic acoustic style\, Heine plays lead and rhythm as well as bass lines simultaneously. With eyes closed\, a listener would swear there were at least three musicians present. Add in Missy’s expressive\, deep soul vocal delivery plus humorous storytelling and it’s a perfect match of all things good. Says Missy\, “My dad is from South Carolina and my mother is from Detroit so\, basically\, I’m bilingual. I speak North and South so that’s soul and blues.” Indeed. \nhttps://missyandersen.com \n

SUMMARY:SIDELINE-SORRY THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Sorry to say the guys are turning the tour bus around and heading home to be with their families during the impending health crisis. We wish them the best and look forward to having them back again in the future. \nOther shows will continue at Boulevard Music as scheduled otherwise. \nSorry for any inconvenience\, GM. \nEXTRA\, EXTRA\, EXTRA. . . THUNDER DAN WINS IBMA SONG OF THE YEAR!\nSideline was the recipient of the 2019 Song of the Year Award at the 30th Annual International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards. The IBMA Awards Ceremony was held in Raleigh\, North Carolina at the Duke Energy Performing Arts Center. Awards were voted on by the professional members of the IBMA. \nSideline is a pedigreed six-piece powerhouse whose style has set the pace in Bluegrass for over two decades. Founders Steve Dilling\, Skip Cherryholmes and Jason Moore can all claim their own historical significance to the genre as members of highly awarded groups\, multiple Grand Ole Opry appearances and years of national and international touring. \nWhat started as a side project for the seasoned players soon moved to the front and center as the three were joined by talents of Jacob Greer\, guitar; Zack Arnold\, mandolin; and Jamie Harper\, fiddle and began to record and release albums in earnest. \nTo listen to Sideline reminds the fan of why so many people fall in love with Bluegrass; pulse-pounding drive\, songs sung from the heart\, perfected timing and dynamics as well as a visceral emotion in the rendering. A band that was started as an off-season fun experiment has become a full-time dream team of players and singers. \nThe band\, recorded or live\, moves dynamically from well chosen\, hard-hitting neo-traditional covers of classic songs to new material curated by a band with a perfect sense of who they are and what they have to say. Combine all this with their on-stage energy and finesse as well as their powerful and affecting harmonies\, and you have the embodiment of the North Carolina Bluegrass sound. Sideline has released three national projects and currently records for the highly awarded Mountain Home Music Company based near Asheville\, NC. \nhttp://www.sidelinebg.com \nListen to Thunder Dan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWrdtE-jKQs \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:THE TILLERS
DESCRIPTION:The Tillers got their start in August 2007 when they started thumping around with some banjos and guitars and a big wooden bass. Their earliest gigs were for coins and burritos on the city’s famous Ludlow Street in the district of Clifton. The songs they picked were mostly older than their grandparents. Some came from Woody Guthrie\, some were southern blues laments\, and many were anonymous relics of Appalachian woods\, churches\, riverboats\, railroads\, prairies\, and coal mines. \nTheir look didn’t fit the stereotype. They were clearly recovering punk rockers with roots in city’s west side punk rock and hardcore scene. The punk influence gave their sound a distinctive bite\, setting them apart from most other folk acts- a hard-driving percussive strum and stomp that brought new pulse and vinegar to some very old songs. But their musical range soon proved itself as they floated from hard-tackle thumping to tender graceful melody\, all the while topped by Oberst and Geil’s clear tenor harmonies. \nThey began picking up weekly gigs around the city’s bar scene. It didn’t take long before their signature treatment of classic folk songs became the preferred versions of Cincinnati locals. Their audiences swelled\, growing into an assortment of grey-haired mechanics\, neo-hippies\, farmers\, punkers\, professors\, and random strays all stomping\, clapping\, singing\, and belting outbursts of “John Henry!” “Darlin’ Corey!” Ever since\, the band has come to each show with the same energy. They are magnetic showmen\, mature musicians\, and colorful storytellers. \nThe Tillers have since won over Cincinnati’s bar and festival scene\, and launching tours with tireless momentum. They were awarded CityBeat Magazine’s Cincinnati Entertainment Award for best Folk and Americana act in 2009\, 2010\, 2013\, 2014\, 2015 & 2017. Their relentless gigging has taken them throughout the East coast\, the Midwest and West\, the Appalachian south and to the UK and Ireland opening for the St.Louis crooner\, Pokey LaFarge. In the summer of 2009\, veteran NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw featured the Tillers on a documentary about US Route 50. Brokaw showcased the group’s song “There is Road (Route 50)” as a testimony to the highway’s role as a connective tissue of the nation. \nMusically\, the band wears many hats. Their sound has proven to be an appropriate fit with a wide range of musical styles- traditional folk\, bluegrass\, jazz\, punk rock and anything else they might run into. They have shared the stage with a broad swath of national touring acts\, ranging from renowned folk legends such as Doc Watson\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott\, Guy Clark\, Country Joe McDonald\, Jerry Douglas\, Iris Dement\, Pokey LaFarge\, The Hackensaw Boys and The Carolina Chocolate Drops to rambunctious rock daredevils like the Legendary Shack Shakers. \nAlways moving\, the Tillers continue to enter new territory. Their musical growth can be heard through the scape of their many releases\, 2008′s debut record Ludlow Street Rag\, 2010′s By The Signs\, 2011′s Wild Hog in the Woods\, 2012′s Live from the Historic Southgate House\, 2013′s Hand On The Plow\, 2018′s The Tillers and many more bootleg releases. The band’s lineup has also taken new shape. In February 2010\, long-time bassist Jason Soudrette fondly parted ways with the group\, being replaced by Aaron Geil\, brother of guitarist Sean. In 2015 the band added fiddler Joe Macheret to the ranks. Recalibrating has not slowed their pace. \nThey continue to plot their travels around the map\, electrifying new places and making new friends wherever they go. From place to place\, they carry with them more instruments\, new songs\, and funnier stories. They are Cincinnati’s traveling minstrels. Expect to hear from them soon. \nhttps://www.the-tillers.com/ \n$17.50Read more

SUMMARY:TRACY NEWMAN & ART PODELL
DESCRIPTION:Picture a scrawny fourteen-year-old girl sitting on a diving board over an empty pool on an overcast day\, strumming the same four chords over and over again\, on her brother’s cheap acoustic guitar. That’s Tracy Newman\, but that’s not how she sees herself. From Tracy’s POV\, the pool is full and clear blue\, it’s a bright sunny LA day\, and her brother’s guitar is the best guitar in the world! That kind of sums up singer/songwriter Tracy Newman’s body of work to date. There are some genuinely happy songs in the mix\, but overall\, if you really listen you will hear the truth. “A Place in the Sun” is great traveling music\, and you can’t help but smile and sing along\, then it hits you: Wow\, there’s more to this than meets the ear. “I Just See You” will make you cry for the beauty of what didn’t realize you had. “That’s What Love Can Do to Your Heart” will drag you kicking and screaming through the carefree beginning to the bitter end of your most memorable love affair. You will not be able to get these songs out of your mind. \nTracy is a founding member of the LA based improv group\, The Groundlings\, which over the years has become the farm company for SNL. She began writing TV comedy in 1990 with writing partner\, Jonathan Stark. Their first gig was Cheers\, then Bob\, The Nanny\, Ellen and The Drew Carey Show. In 1997\, they won an Emmy and Peabody Award for writing the groundbreaking “coming out” episode of Ellen. In 2001\, they created the ABC comedy\, According to Jim\, which ran for eight seasons. Tracy is back to music now\, full time. \nPLUS ON THE SAME BILL—ART PODELL \nHad Art Podell kept a diary\, it would have been a rich chronicle of the life of a folksinger during the Folk Era and as a songwriter in the years since\, spiced with a healthy serving of laughter. Unfortunately\, he didn’t. Instead\, at the coaxing of friends and former folkies\, he is spilling the beans on stage. He began in Greenwich Village with friend and fellow musician\, Paul Potash. Art and Paul released two albums on Columbia Records. The first — “Songs of Earth and Sky” — is considered a folk classic and is rumored to have influenced the early recordings of another “Art and Paul” (Garfunkel and Simon). (Begrudgingly\, Art finally admitted last year that they were “pretty good.”) In the Village\, Peter Yarrow\, their friend\, shared a new song with them called “Puff\, the Magic Dragon” and it was Art and Paul who first recorded the song in 1961 — well over a year before Peter\, Paul and Mary’s version. In 1961\, the boys headed west to the L.A. folk scene. “We were so successful\,” Art remembers while scratching his head\, “we broke up.” Art turned to songwriting. In short order\, he had songs recorded by Rod McKuen\, The Smothers Brothers\, Glenn Yarbrough\, Joe and Eddie\, Bud and Travis\, Barry and Barry\, and\, eventually\, The New Christy Minstrels\, whom he joined as one of the original members in 1962 until 1966. Quite a ride — from the Troubadour to Carnegie Hall in less than six months…national TV\, college concerts\, European tours\, and performances at the White House. Art co-wrote the title song for Ann Murray’s Christmas album\, ‘Christmas Wishes’.Art continues to write and perform and hosts a bi-monthly segment of “Roots Music and Beyond” on KPFK 90.7FM – Los Angeles\, a Pacifica Station in Los Angeles. His new CD\, ‘From The Village To The Canyon’ was recently featured in an exhibit at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles featuring the music of Laurel Canyon. \n“Art Podell presents an evening of music\, laughter\, songs\, stories and memories shared through his signature story/songs. He sometimes divulges a few secrets about friends — famous and not. (Consequently\, he is currently looking for a qualified bodyguard – preferably one who plays banjo \nhttps://tracynewman.com \nhttp://artpodell.com/ \n$17.50Read more	\n \n \n

SUMMARY:DORIAN MICHAEL & KENNY BLACKWELL WITH FRED SOKOLOW
DESCRIPTION:Mandolinist/guitarist Kenny Blackwell studied with Jethro Burns before moving to California where he joined fiddler Richard Green’s band in ’93. His mandolin and guitar work have been heard in TV and movie scores. He was a member of the famed Laurel Canyon Ramblers which he joined in ’94.\n \nGuitarist Dorian Michael has played in about every style and in every type of work situation a blue collar musician could hope for. After years of honky-tonk electric guitar followed by concentrating on solo fingerstyle guitar this duo with Kenny is a real horizon broadener. \nKenny Blackwell & Dorian Michael \nAfter Kenny and Dorian met by chance in a music store in San Luis Obispo\, then at a backyard jam session\, and again at a music convention in Los Angeles\, they decided it was time to play some music together. Kenny\, one of California’s foremost mandolinists\, wanted a chance to play outside of the bluegrass genre in which he is constantly in demand. Guitarist Dorian Michael was looking for a skillfull musician who understood a wide variety of roots music. Six months later their first CD was released and they were touring as a duo. \nThe duo’s diverse backgrounds are the wellspring for a performance of exciting and heartfelt music. Their enthusiasm for making music and their respect for their audience is plainly evident whenever they perform. Says Dorian\, “Some music makes you feel deeply\, some music makes you think and some tunes are played just for the sheer fun of it. We like to try to get to all those places in the space of a concert.” \nPlus Fred Sokolow a master of several stringed instruments\, and who has recorded countless CDs and written numerous instruction books\, from rock to bluegrass to jazz. Bob Baxter  was quoted as saying\, because of Fred’s mastering of so many genres of music\, that “Sokolow should definitely be included with those four other guys on Mt. Rushmore.” \nhttps://dorianmichael.com/kenny-dorian/ \nhttp://www.sokolowmusic.com \n$17.50Read more
