DESCRIPTION:His roots lie in Gypsy Swing music\, the style pioneered in the 1930s by the legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Joscho Stephan has not merely absorbed this music\, but also interprets it on the highest level and is actively engaged in extending its boundaries. Tonight’s show will also feature Gage Hulsey on guitar and Lakshmi Ramirez on bass. Great jazz musicians such as Paquito de Rivera\, James Carter\, Charlie Mariano or Grady Tate enthusiastically praised the talented newcomer Stephan after performing together with him. SMITH ALLEN is an extremely talented singer/songwriter and musician. Smith’s voice and vocal stylings are a standout wherever he performs. The warmth of his tenor vocals whether singing lead or harmonies will win over a crowd every time. LIAM LEWIS is a mult-instrumentalist and singer from the LA area. With a background in traditional Celtic music and bluegrass\, Liam has toured the circuit of Scottish Highland Games for the past 8 years with LA based band The Ploughboys\, and main-staged many of California’s Bluegrass festvals with his newgrass band Hot October. His newest duo project Stepwise has just come out with their first full album of original fiddle tunes. ANDY KEATHLEY is the former founder of the LA based band The Get Down Boys. Andy is not only a great singer and songwriter\, he’s also one of the most sought-after guitar players on the LA Bluegrass scene today. He didn’t want Dennis to mention it\, but he recently won first place at the Topanga Banjo & Fiddle Contest for advanced guitar. JORDAN KATZ is a truly fine Banjo player whose talents have been seen on TV shows such as American Idol\, The Late Late Show\, Drop the Mic\, and The Tonight Show. DESCRIPTION:British guitarist Clive Carroll has a deep knowledge of music history\, arranges\, composes\, can lay down a blues with the best of them\, and is a captivating performer. Born in England\, Clive began his musical journey in Chelmsford\, Essex. His parents had a taste for American country and old time music and it wasn’t long before Clive was playing in the family band on a homemade banjo. By his early teens\, guitar in hand\, Clive was traversing the worlds of soul\, pop\, funk\, and traditional Irish music\, balancing his affinity for Slayer with the etudes of Tárrega. This breadth of musical curiosity was to become one of his strengths; even as a child Clive was as comfortable accompanying a group of folk singers as he was jamming along to Nirvana or performing standards with the Essex Youth Orchestra. Clive went on to earn a 1st Class Honours Degree in Composition and Guitar from the famed Trinity College of Music in London\, all the while balancing his classical work with forays into the world of the steel string guitar. By the time he graduated from Trinity\, Clive had not only penned orchestral works\, he had written an album’s worth of solo acoustic guitar music. A chance meeting with English guitar legend John Renbourn proved the catalyst for Clive’s debut album\, “Sixth Sense”\, which Renbourn deemed “a milestone in the journey of the steel-string guitar”. He subsequently took Clive on the road with him and the pair toured North America and Europe together\, launching Clive’s solo performing career. Since then\, Clive has established himself as one of the world’s premier acoustic guitar players. He has toured across Europe\, Australia\, the Middle East and North America\, garnering praise for his sublime performances of everything from 16th and 17th century lute music to Jazz standards\, Blues\, Irish reels and his own groundbreaking compositions. DESCRIPTION:Not the “Three Tenors” but even better for guitar fans—three members of USC Thorton School of Music Guitar Dept. Featuring the Chair\, Scott Tennant\, William Kanengiser\, and Brian Head plus several of their fabulous students performing solo as well as duets. \nScott Tennant is a founding member of the the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet\, the Grammy-winning ensemble composed entirely of alumni of the USC Thornton School of Music\, and is himself considered to be one of the world’s top classical guitarists. During his student years at USC (1980-1986)\, he studied with Pepe Romero and James Smith and was a chosen performer in the USC Segovia Masterclasses of 1981 and 1986. He has authored several books and articles on guitar technique\, including the best-seller Pumping Nylon\, which has attained cult classic status. Scott Tennant has made numerous recordings as a soloist on the GHA\, Delos and GSP labels\, and with the LAGQ he has recorded for GHA\, Delos\, Sony Classical\, Windham Hill\, Deutsche Grammophon and Telarc labels.Tennant is best known for his performances of Spanish music\, and his recordings of the music of Joaquín Rodrigo. \n\n\n\n\n\nWilliam Kanengiser has forged a career that expands the possibilities of the classical guitar. A prize-winner in major competitions (1987 Concert Artists Guild International Competition\, Toronto Guitar ’81) he has toured throughout North America\, Asia\, and Europe with his innovative programs and expressive musicianship. He recorded four CD’s for the GSP label\, playing music as diverse as Caribbean\, Eastern European\, and jazz. A member of the guitar faculty at the USC Thornton School of Music since 1983\, he has given master classes around the world. As a founding member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet\, William Kanengiser has given hundreds of recitals and concerto appearances around the world\, and has recorded over a dozen releases.\n \n\nBrian Head\, associate dean\, academic affairs\, professor of practice\, and director of undergraduate music theory\, classical guitar and composition at USC Thornton School of Music\, was voted Outstanding Thornton School Graduate of 1991. Brian Head was chosen in 1999 as the USC Gamma Sigma Alpha Professor of the Year. He is sought after as an ensemble guitarist performing in numerous chamber and symphonic groups including XTET\, Ten-String Music and the New World Symphony. His compositions are published by Alfred Music and Guitar Solo Publications\, and have been recorded on Delos\, Denon\, Digital Revolution\, GSP Recordings and Massax Productions. Renowned for his fingerpicking technique\, incredible versatility and distinctive ‘twang’ sound\, his music is an unusual fusion of classical Spanish guitar\, Latin rhythms\, country\, rockabilly\, jazz…and even surf music.\nSince the age of 6\, when he first started playing chords\, he has always found anchorage and inspiration in the surrounding world\, finding beauty & joy in the “Here and Now” and transcribing it into music.\nHis style and sounds keep surprising and delighting listeners with every new album.
