Dubbed a “firebreathing guitar hero” by the press, and called ‘the King of Twang” by Guitar Player Magazine, Latin Grammy-winning guitarist/composer/performer Twanguero (Diego Garcia), is considered by many to be one of the finest guitarists in Spain.
Renowned for his incredible versatility, fingerpicking technique, and distinctive ‘twang’ sound, his music is an unusual fusion of classical Spanish guitar, flamenco, Latin rhythms, country, rockabilly, jazz…and surf music.
“I am three guitarists in one. I play classical nylon-string with my fingers and artificial nails. I play with a thumb pick when I switch to the steel-string acoustic. And when I play electric guitar, I play exclusively with a pick-no hybrid picking. I developed the three techniques in order to get the music right, and to express myself the way I want to,” explains Garcia.
Rolling Stone calls Twanguero “a journey into the heart of the music,” and indeed his newest cd, BACKROADS,Vol.2 , is exactly that. A stunning solo sequel to the award-winning BACKROADS, Vol. 1, (“Best World Music Album” at the 2018 MIN awards,) volume 2 continues Twanguero’s journey of musical exploration of north America’s blues and ragtime music to the rhythms of south America and Mexico and ultimately the jungles of Costa Rica, where his latest album was entirely composed during the Covid lockdown. While BACKROADS Vol. 1, explored the contrasting guitar rhythms of north and south America and Mexico, BACKROADS, Vol.2 takes the listener on a captivating musical trip into the heart of the lush jungle, beautifully revealing Twanguero’s deeper journey into self-discovery and the mystical experience of nature. Inspired by the birds, howler monkeys, jaguars, cicadas, and other animals, Twanguero’s passionate music and playing brings the sultry feeling of the tropical environment to life.
“For three months I played every morning in a clearing in the tropical forest until I managed to connect with something really very powerful that was there. A combination of humidity, ambient sounds and temperature that made the guitar sound especially good. I wanted to capture and express the symphony of the jungle.”
A documentary crew followed him throughout his time in Costa Rica to record the entire process of making the cd in the jungle, and illustrate the experience.
Online tickets sales close at 6pm the night of the show. Any remaining tickets are for sale at Boulevard Music when doors open At 7:30pm unless noted otherwise. Tickets may also be purchased in person at Blvd Music or by phone (310) 398-2583 using a major credit card.
A $3 service charge per ticket is added to online and phone orders. All ticket sales are final. They are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. For online ticket purchases, you will need to provide the ticket barcode for entry. Please print your ticket or display the barcode on your phone.
Please note all shows start at 8pm and doors open at 7:30pm unless indicated otherwise. People who already have their tickets (purchased them in advance) get in first when doors open at 7:30 pm. After the people who already have their tickets are admitted any remaining tickets will go on sale.
